I will say this to Cameron. You take 3D away from Avatar and it's just a shitty remake of Dances With Wolves using screwy looking cat people. I've seen it in DVD at home w/o 3D and it was just mediocre. You take 3D away from Piranha 3D and it's still a funny and enjoyable movie that doesn't use 3D as a crutch to mask it's shortcomings.

I think Cameron is just pissed that Piranha 3D exposes 3D as what it really is: a gimmick, nothing more, and certainly not a technical revolution in in the mediums of television and cinema as him and others have been touting it. Sure, it can be a fun gimmick, but still just a gimmick.

I'm with Cameron on this one. I loved the 3D in Avatar because it showed depth of field. Piranha 3D and the upcoming Resident Evil movie (which I refuse to see under any circumstances) use it as an excuse to throw things at the screen. I hate it hardcore.
Forgive me if I sound asinine, but I never can tell the difference between "depth of field" 3D and 2D (perhaps it's just my inadequate vision, though). Therefore it is my honest opinion that 3D is good for nothing but throwing things at the screen, hence not good for much at all.
I do, but admittedly it shows up best when something else is used as a point of reference (any scene where they were looking out of the window in a ship in Avatar).

Ahaha! What a hippocritical prick. Ya because Avatar was a damn fine film filled with interesting characters, an unforgettable story and shit. Bastard.

You know what would elevate 3D movies to works of art? Make a movie that uses the 3D effects to mess with your head. Say it uses optical illusions created with 3D to enhance a horror or suspense movie, or to create some good WTF moments in a bizarre or otherworldly movie. I'll bet a movie like INCEPTION could have had some fun with strange 3D effects, with the paradoxical architecture and whatnot.

I agree with him about the cheap use of 3D, but since every film is selling it as a gimmick while being a throwback to 70s bad horror films, I wouldn't call it a "renaissance". If anything, this is a return for the technology to its rightful place: as a cheap gimmick to make the movie theater experience a more unique one, right next to the smell-o-vision and the electric shocks at the sits.

Here is a true and extremely sad story:
"There once was a film maker named James Cameron. He initially released extremely or moderately good movies, like Alien, Terminator and even Titanic. However, his lust for the "perfect film" sent him on a magical quest. However, on that quest, James Cameron managed to get lost and ended up directly in his own ass. However, he continues to make films, rejecting the fact that his head is forever lodged in his ass. Some say he still lingers today, head up his ass, making movies that aren't good, as it is hard to make good movies when your head is in your ass."
[h4] THE END.[/h4]
OT: This movie looks kinda funny. Trying to recreate the good ol' cheesy movies. It's good to see that some people respect the elder gods than Mr. Cameron's new crazy "My head is stuck in my ass" spectacle films. I might see it:
*For the lulz.
*To piss off James Cameron.

I don't 3D, always gives me eye strain and headaches.

That aside, it barely ever adds anything worthwhile.

I've never even seen a film in 3D.
I have but its never added anything to the film for me so I don't really see the point in it at all.

Bingo. Sorry, James, I think you're an incredibly talented man, but you should probably just shut your pie hole now.

What are people talking about? this is the kinda movie 3D was made for. Just becuase that guy wants to *****, piss, and moan becuase someone stepped up anbd replaced Avatar as "The Now 3D Movie" doesnt mean you can rip into it. This isnt here to tell a story, or be epic, or even good. This is completely fan fare. Lots of blood, sex, violence, and awesomeness that you expect in a B-horror movie, with the added 3D. Besides, CHRISTOPHER LLOYD!!!!!!!!!! You cant argue with the doctor.

So Mr. Cameron, kindly fuck off. Avatar wasnt as great as everyone says, and dont go talking to loudly. I hear rumors that you want to make Titanic in 3D in a few years. Not a new one, but to just redo the one you made. Just go buy a nation, make them watch Titanic and Avatar for years and years and make yourself the social dictator of media you want to be and leave movies you didnt make alone.

I haven't seen Piranha 3D, but I have to disagree.

Damn, I came in here to bring up exactly that. I can see what Mr. Cameron is getting at, but to say that Piranha 3D is more of an abomination to a so-called renaissance of movies than Step Up 3D. And even they were at least filmed in 3D in the first place (I think anyway) unlike the 3D conversion shenanigans going on.

(I haven't seen either of those movies, or any movie in 3D for that matter)

Bah, I think he's worried his gimmick will lose it's luster under the weight of crap movies. I don't blame him, but he hardly fathered 3D, he's just changed how it's implemented.

Well,he could just have the same opinion of the movie as me:not fun to watch.I was basically begging for the piranhas to just kill everyone so the movie could end.

OT:James, you can just shut the hell up.You made a tech demo of a movie, then release it later for more cash. But his stuff is the "proper" use of 3D as art.

"Renaissance" of 3D indeed. If that's his idea of a renaissance I'd hate to see the Enlightenment.

I love how the only people who hate Piranha 3D are the ones that don't get that it's meant as a joke.
It has Doc Brown practically playing himself. That should really be a hint.

Man, all 3d does is make me wear double glasses.

I end up looking stupid as hell.

And that's terrible.

Sheesh...Stuck up asshole much James?

Hey Cameron, at least Piranha knows what it is; ridiculously violent and cheesy fun. Avatar was extremely stupid in the story department dispite it taking itself completely seriously:

Humans- "YARRHHG!!! PEACE IS FOR FAGS! BLOW SHIT UP! FUCK THUNDERCATS!
Na'vi- "Imagine there's no countries It isn't hard to try..."
Jake and Neytiri- "Wi wuv woo..."
Humans- "BOOM GOES YER TREE BITCHES!!!"
Na'vi, Jake, and Neytiri- "Aww..that wasn't very nice. Well it's been two hours anyway, lets just get the big final fight scene over with now.

[small]-One big, stupid, kinda neat looking, "been there, done that" fight scene later...-[/small]

Bad human guy- I just want...-cough-, you to know that, ugh...I'm still a jackass. Egh...-dies-
Jake- [Respawn in 7 seconds...]
Me- "Does anybody here have a hammer?"
