You might want to clarify for those who don't watch/read/have a brain that it is NOT made out of poop. It's made out of protein from bacteria for which poop is a suitable environment.

I usually get annoyed at people for saying stuff like this, but here, everyone, join me in saying;
...God-freaking-damnit Japan. No. Just No.
Yeah, there is no freaking way to make "made a burger out of crap" sound good...

Anyone remember their history classes on the Oregon trail? Two words: Buffalo cakes. If settlers are willing to eat the processed feces of their own buffalo, then I think this would be feasible to some people.

I don't care what it'll taste like. I don't care how much it'll save people.

Its still a burger made from literal shit.

Shit itself is stuff the body doesn't need/use. So eating it is pointless, as it'll provide no nutrition or anything.

Plus, its a fucking burger made of shit.

That's a bit more comforting.

Though if your trying to sell food, you probably want to avoid saying anything related to "shit".

I'm pretty sure what I eat now is less meat and more factory run-off but ignorance is bliss. As long as i never find out I'm perfectly OK.

Yea just keep me away from the fridge with the "shit burger" sticker on it, that was kinda funny actually.

How the hell is refining shit the same price as paying the guy spends money on slaughtering, refining, cleaning the meat, and all the employees who do it. Not to mention turning a profit from buying it from the farmer who spends money on buying, breeding, feeding, and sheltering cattle or pigs?

Oh my god, that is disgusting! What kind of sick maniac would ever serve feces as food? I would rather...

Oh wait, the Japanese made it?

In retrospect that's probably the sanest thing they've ever done. And that's not saying much.

I somehow have the feeling this is a hoax.

Anyway: I'm not quite sure I would eat it. From my first intuition I would say no, because d'uh.
But looking at this from a rational standpoint, in terms of chemistry there's only a minor difference to normal steaks. Today's biochemical methods allow to extract the needed proteins without carrying over, what's "disgusting" (or better: poisonous) about feces. (like bacteria etc.)
And as a (weak) defense of this: many things in (bio-)pharmacy as well as in the food industry aren't realy less disgusting. E.g. many things used as food additives are synthesized in E.coli (fecal bacteria).
And the shown method has clearly the advantage of using a numerous resource wich would otherwise just be waste.

IMO it is great to have the chance of meat supply without the need of animal factory farming. Not that it will become completely obsolete, but why not using a chance to reduce it.

Still: I don't know I would eat it, but I think I'd give it a shot. If it is true.
Anyway, I somehow don't see a chance it will get comon. If people know what it is, most would never buy it. And selling it without that info would be kinda lame to. So I'm quite sure it will fail on the market.
But maybe we will remember this, as the world hunger won't become any less of a problem with increasing population. And meat is as inefficient as it get's in terms of kilokalories per hectar farming land.

Hopefully there will be found a way to grow meat as cell culture.

Edit:

I mean of course living bacteria and their possible toxines, since the burger is made out of bacterial protein.

Next week, we'll learn about how Japan has created a real tentacle monster.

OT: Well now I have all the more reason to learn Japanese, so if I ever go to Japan I will know exactly what i'm ordering.
