Obviously all these over-powered characters is a symbol of the need for Japan to compensate. I mean, look how big Cloud and sephoroth's fugging swords are! Or how other japanese protaganists destroy planets!

You're talking about the Toei (who does Sentai and Kamen Rider) made Spiderman from 1978 (3 years after Sentai started) who had a giant robo which got folded into Super Sentai in the 1979 series Battle Fever J and has become a staple since.

Congratulations, you have an opinion. One that I and many, many others disagree with.

For instance, I fucking love the Spartan IIs. And if you took the time to look up their backstories, you'd realize that they're actually really fucking cool and very interesting.

Yes, I think they have more INTERESTING back story than most characters...ever, in any game. Honestly I couldn't stand Cloud's back story, I loved Sephiroth's though. I never felt bad for all the crap that happened to any of the FF characters (except Sephiroth and Zack) but I feel bad for Orion and the Spartans.

That's because he isn't as angsty as most Japanese characters. His back story is also pretty cool and he is a damn party boy. Dante is pretty badass.

The coolest fighting robots I've seen are BattleMechs which weren't made by the Japanese(except for a few that clearly were ripped from Robotech). I like the heaviness they have and that they aren't moving at speeds that would turn you into jelly(that said I do still like Gundam).

I'll take the gruff guy with a gun over the guy with the crazy hair and outfits. And I personally don't think the Power Rangers are cool.

However...

Damn right Japan makes cool stuff.

You know who my favorite guns and low, gruff voice character is? Solid Snake. Japanese. I'm not too sure if that's a point in favor of your side or not, these things are complicated.

I guess it should be mentioned the huge roster of non guns and gruff characters that DC and Marvel have given us over the years, too.

And, as I posted earlier, Power Rangers started from Super Sentai's 1992 offering of Zyuranger, then adapted the mecha (and A suit) from Dairanger, then the mecha (and eventually suits) from Kakuranger, then Ohranger, Carranger, Megaranger, Gingaman, GoGoV, Timeranger, Gaoranger, Hurricaneger, Abaranger, Dekaranger, Magiranger, Boukenger, Gekiranger, Go-Onger and now Shinkenger. That is every single season of Power Rangers upto and including Power rangers Samurai this year.
Basically every single piece of Power Rangers has come from the Super Sentai source, with only a few things like the Battlizer (back in Space/Mega), Titanium ranger (Lightspeed/GoGoV) and spirit rangers (JF/Geki) being new to the show.

The genre is Tokusatsu (Special Effects), the show is Sentai and Power Rangers.

I agree that Japan is more creative, not always cooler, but creative is > then cool. The only time Japan usually fails in this is when they are trying to appease us. I already see people saying japan only makes kid characters with weird impossible hair. The protagonists in Castlevania aren't kids. Mario isn't a kid. Samus isn't a kid. Dante isn't a kid. Ryu isn't a kid, etc. I think some of you have played way to many JRPG's and watched too many episodes of Naruto.

Japan characters are mostly stupid. I mean, how are you supposed to relate to an angsty teen with a stupid haircut? All Japanese games usually do this( Catherine is my only exception). They are NOT likeable. They are ALWAYS the same!

To be entierly fair, Japan can take anything we make and make it 'Japanese'. Just look at vampires and what they did to them in Castlevania.

If we made the halo animated movie, it would have just been a war shooter that happened to have aliens: an animated version of 'Battle: Los Angeles' like everything else we make. Everything charming and unique that was in halo legends wouldn't have been there.
