I think Mono are great (post rock band, same genre as Godspeed You Black Empereor!, Mogwai and others).

Used to be addicted to Polysics (crazy electro rock), haven't listened to them for ages though.

Wrong.
I'm saying it's uninspiring for me.

I forgot to mention one...Cool Joke. Last I heard, they were still touring nationally, and I don't think they've released a second album. But they're pretty cool. Also, anyone here know of Porno Graffiti?

oh, & for reasons I dont really understand I kinda like the Visual Kei movement, notably Versailles. Something about androgenous people dressed in Georgian frills playing 'power' metal I find strangely compelling.
...Also, I kinda like Polysics *runs away*

I don't know about any of their other songs, but "Oh my Juliet' by LMC was pretty enjoyable to me.

Also the intro song to naruto, "Fighting Dreamers' sounds fun :p

I saw Dir En Grey live once, was pretty good, except for the beginning because the lead singer immeadiately started with a high pitched scream which kinda ripped my eardrums to shreds.

So the Japanese can make weak power metal. What about Techno? The only good artists seem to either be from Germany [http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=O666kGBEvF0] or America [http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=Ub4AzeZAiQA].

Japan after WWII was assimilated into western culture to the point that traditional ways and music were completely phased out by Animu and Bad rock 'n roll.
yeah, but it's part of their culture now. they can't pretend that the atomic bomb didn't drop or that they were/are occupied by US forces.

I haven't heard any specific bands that I like, but a lot of songs, say:

The Real Folk Blues
Kaze No Uta
We Are!
Ash Like Snow

And of course a lot of video game music is from Japanese artists.

I like the stuff. I even have Japanese music in a CD in my car. I like the flow of the words in the Japanese language overall. What got me hooked was anime tho. I guess when you spend countless hours listening to the stuff you start to like it.
