Japanese PS3 vs. US PS3

The topic title speaks for itself. What are the differences (if any) between the Japanese model of the PS3 and the US model? Does it cost more in yen? I tried Google and only got the answer to the cost question.

That doesn't work. I tried it when FF7 was available in japan those first few months b4 it was released on the USA PSN. In theory you would think it would. But it deosn't. Unless im doing something wrong. If i had to guess its one of those thigns that everyone has heard about but nobody has ever actually seen it work. >.> though i have been wrong before

Please, guys, cut it out with the snarkiness. I'm going to Japan in a few months and I was thinking if I should get a PS3 overseas while I'm there. All I'm asking is are there any benefits or defining factors that make biting the bullet with exchange rates and extra baggage weight worth it?
