Then look at the majority of the people who are CORRECTLY convicted. Sure the system is not perfect, but it's better than saying everyone's innocent and letting the f**king psychos run rampant...
Why not keep them locked up for life instead?

I mean sure, it will cost money for the people. But is it really worth the lives of those innocents that slip through the gaps?

Is it worth sacrificing innocent people, just to save some money?

I don't care which country you live in, if that country has had the death penalty for more than 100 years, then by sheer probability that country HAS executed innocent people.

Just imagine being in an innocent man or womans shoes for a bit, and sitting on death row. You might just have been in the wrong place at the wrong time, but you know you didn't commit the crime you are accused of?

Would you just sit there and think: "Well, at least the fucking psychos get executed too. Im just a mistake made by the court..."

Would that thought really comfort you?

Wouldn't you rather be locked up for the rest of your life. Perhaps doing some sort of job inside the prison, earn some money and try to hire a private investigator who could look into your case and perhaps find the evidence which would provide a breakthrough and have you released and absolved?

It's scary how many people put their blind faith in the death sentence and the courts that hands them out...

The thing is, Death Row is there for a reason.
The people sent there are some of the most despicable creatures on earth, who have, by their own choice, and usually their sick scheming, decided to take the life of a human being. You're telling me that a creature who sexually assaults members of a family, and then executes the whole family should be treated with dignity and respect, and be shown kindness and empathy?

Tell me this, then; where's the kindness towards the victims?

The day I start opposing the death sentence for these pieces of shit, is when there is no death sentence for the victims. And if they suffer while they're in there, and go crazy because of the 'inhumane' living conditions? All the better. They lost their humanity a long time ago.
Do you categorize the innocent people sent to death row as being the same kind of "despicable creatures of the earth" as well?

Thankfully many people having sat on death row have been proven innocent afterwards and have been released. But what about the ones having been executed?

My response to pretty much all of the above: a learned lawyer said recently that governments should never create a criminal law system that they themselves would not be happy to go through. Remember that every innocent ever convicted was INNOCENT. That means they could just as easily be you or me, arrested tomorrow for a crime we didn't commit. If the country has the death penalty, you could be executed for NOTHING.

As for those of you questioning the need for appeals processes and long delays, you know nothing of legal systems, justice and the miscarriages of justice.

If you value your existence so little that you would be willing to let the state murder you so that it can also murder some criminals then kindly clear off to your own country somewhere and leave civilised humanity to the rest of us.

Are those conditions harsh?

Yes.

Do they deserve it?

Maybe. Why did they commit whatever crime this committed in the first place...?

If I was PERSONALLY convicted of a crime that i didn't commit and sentenced to death i would want to be killed quickly. Why? isnt it more of a hell to stay in a cage and continually be punished for 40 50 60 years with a very low chance of ever getting let go. Why would you even want to continue living? just to appease your primal desire to live? think about it your purpose and everything that you worked for in life would be destroyed right before your very eyes. Wouldn't living be more of a hell than ending it. Wouldn't suicide be the best why for you to go because at least you got to choose when you died.

And think about it if you lost 30 years of your life because your were wrongly convicted what would you do after you got released? All your dreams would be dead, and it would be nearly impossible to start a normal life again.

Another reason why Japan has barely any crime, it may be cruel but it acts as a deterrent.

And that would solve what exactly? We've no reason to, hell we didn't have much of a reason the first time, but that's a rant reserved for another discussion that involves Nazi's and President Truman.

No, the death penalty is cruel enough as it is. At the very least they should be put out of there misery soon after the verdict. Anything else is just barbarism.
I agree, Every death row inmate has the right to a speedy firing squad. But I sure as hell want to be 110% sure they are guilty...

But does everyone reason like that do you think?

If you'd rather commit suicide, then that should be your prerogative, but what about those wrongly convicted that wants to fight for their rights? They should just shut up and be executed as soon a possible? Just swallow the fact that a legal system which they might even have believed in is going to KILL them just as arbitrarily as a common criminal killing them?

40 years? I think someone should stand up in court and shoot the convicted in the head as soon as the judge sentences them to death.

Yeah deterrent... Good one! : )

The U.S has one of the highest rates of capital punishments in the world. Yet still the U.S also has one of the highets rates in violent crime in the world...

Perhaps their methods of deterence aren't threatening enough? Perhaps they should publicly threaten all criminals that they will send their souls to hell after death and torture them there too? XD

Fact: harsh punishments are very unlikely to deter violent crime.

Really? What kind of evidence should the judge demand then before being allowed to sentence someone to death?

The same amount as it is now? : )

If thats true how come that doesn't keep other people from doing things to get on death row?

Well, since these people have committed horrific crimes, I think that immediately after conviction, they should be stabbed in the gut with a small knife and put in a cell. Every week, they are stabbed again, until they die from blood loss.

This is a horrible, painful way to die and would probably mean that prisons would have blood all over them.

But that's fine, I don't plan on going to death row in Japan anytime soon.
Actually I would prefer going insane to my approach.
