I must admit, it is harsh that they would treat another living creature that way, and to get children to take part is down right cruel, but it is not, I am sad to say, the most horrendous story I have heard today. No. That goes to the father who bashed his newborn daughters head in with a cinderblock because he couldn't afford to raise her.

I will now shoot myself.

Or stone myself.
Does that mean there will be one less person saying "I have lost faith in humanity" every five minutes?
How can you not look at this and think that? This is an example of utter barbarism committed by paranoid lunatics in a position of power over weak-minded people.
That's a ridiculous view to take. Yes, people can be barbaric, but people can also accomplish/do incredible things. People have the potential to behave in many ways, it doesn't mean that if one person murders another everyone in the world is a cold-blooded killer.

Crazy shit happens I guess. It's terrible that some of it has to come at the cost of lives though.

I thought the jews didn't believe in reincarnation...

also if they want to throw rocks at a dog, fine. i'm not going to waste time being upset about it.

I wasn't aware Judaism included a belief in re-incarnation?

*edit* I was also unaware that Judaism included the concept that an animal is capable of being the vessel for a soul, for that matter.
Indeed, I thought that was firmly within the belief sctures of other religions.

I certainly hope so. I never knew quite how irritating it was until spending time around people who kept saying it.

These Rabbis don't sound too healthy though.

Wonderful. I genuinely don't understand the thought process behind this. I mean, even if you believed a guy you didn't like came back as a dog, would you really think it was worth killing the dog?

Using children armed with rocks?

I'd chalk this up to 'cultural differences', but this just seems bananas.

Because shit happens? I have seen literally thousands of "I lost my faith in humanity! Look how cool I am Gais!" posts on these forums and it gets damn old damn quick.
...You've got a 'shit happens' attitude that encompasses all aspects of human barbarism and stupidity but get bothered by a common saying?

Alright.

Big deal. It's a dog.

Also:

The head of the court, Rabbi Avraham Dov Levin, denied that the judges had called for the dog's stoning. But one of the court's managers confirmed the report to Yedioth Ahronoth.
Uh huh, sure it was confirmed. Couldn't possibly be a fake story used to garner more support for the religious bigots, could it?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not in favor of cruelty to animals, but all of you who are saying that you've lost faith in humanity because some group of people no one has ever heard of killed a dog didn't have any faith in humanity before this. Perhaps instead of dismissing your faith in humanity, you should dismiss your faith in journalism, as I searched out the "Rabbis" name and while I found a lot of stories about this incident, they all followed the same form, used the same words, and were practically identical. No further information or "proof" was forthcoming.

It's a hoax. I've never heard anything about any Jews believing in reincarnation.

Hammurabi would be proud.

In other news, religious people are still retarded in the Middle east.

You know they are making this shit up.

"A Jewish rabbinical court condemned to death by stoning a stray dog it feared was the reincarnation of a lawyer who insulted its judges".

Everyone knows that lawyers have no souls. Therefore the dog is innocent!

Alright.
It was mere commentary. The "Lost my faith in humanity" bit is merely faux depth that does nothing to advance the conversation. I am not perfect but I got the "Faith in humanity" crap out of my system a while ago and after seeing it literally thousands of times it has become... annoying.

Wait... what? Since when does Judaism believe in reincarnation? Something's not right here.

Reincarnation is a feature of Hasidism.

That's definitely never happened.
