Jhonen Vasquez has retweeted on Twitter an image saying "DOOM IS COMING" in the official Invader ZIM font. The image originated from OniPress, a comic publishing company with the further text "Stay tuned fore more - 2/20/15."

Huh, I thought he had grown to dislike Zim due to all the bitching people did about it. Guess he came to terms with it. Either way, intriguing news. Hope it fares better than the Gargoyles comic.

Either way (if it is a comic or not) I won't be buying it. It's not cos I don't hate the series (I liked it) but I don't buy comicbooks in general.

In saying so, I wonder if the comicbook will have stories/ episodes ideas that were planned out but never got used cos it got cancelled (I remember one titles being called Invader Dib).

I'll be getting it. I do collect comics, and have collected all of Jhonen Vasquez's original work ( Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, Squee, I Feel Sick, Filler Bunny, etc) back when he was publishing through Slave Labor Graphics. I have the Box set of Invader Zim, so getting the comic'll fit right at home. Oni Press does a very good job with a lot of other comics I read ( Courtney Crumrin, The Sixth Gun, The Crogan's series, etc).

I'm only curious as to why they didn't go with SLG, Image, or IDW for this.

Edit: Actually, come to think of it, it'd be just as likely as him pushing another project all together. He's been known to use Invader Zim as a sort of punching bag, so I'd just as imagine that it'll be an unrelated project...

Jhonen Vasquez showing off his new comic "name" by Oni Press later this year! (P.S. Invader Zim still canceled)

It'd be his sense of humor..

I have trouble believing this is actually an Invader Zim anything. The man has little love for the series anymore(if he ever really did), so I don't see why he wouldn't just move onto a new project, unless of course he's pressed for money, in which case I'm not expecting his best work coming from this.

I'm just looking at this realistically. That font isn't uncommon in his work, and the idea of "Doom" is hardly any less common, so it'd be just like the guy to let that little bit be simply to fuck with Him fans while still promoting his new shit.

On a more optimistic note, if this is the case, I can assume he isn't so pressed for money, as he'll still fuck with his fans, and so I can also assume he'll be giving the project his same magic, so it should still be good.

That does seem like the sort of thing he'd do. Though if he had reacquired the rights to Zim and had full control over it, it'd be interesting to see what he would do with it with the censors gone.

Oh please...the time is ripe for an animated series of Johnny the homicidal maniac, and you know it. Society just takes a little longer to adjust to these things.

Well, if he gained the rights, then he'd probably be running comic versions of his final unaired scripts.. If that's the case it'd be a mini just to finish and flush what he's considered his most abysmal work. Honestly there's very little left in him for the fans of zim (as he's been on the internet, met the zadr community and became violently ill to his ill prone belly). The guy has his serious brilliant streaks, and if he's running Zim, great. If he's making anything else, just as good. I'll be picking up whatever madness he puts to paper..

Now if Roman Dirge'd raise from the bloody grave and start putting out gold again...

Nice. I would love for Adult Swim, Comedy Central, or even HBO to pay him so they can make a JTHM animated show. I think it would be awesome.

I've been waiting AGES for him to do another comic. He did Jellyfist about 7 years ago.

I'd love him to get another cartoon series, even if it's in his BAC/Happy Noodle Boy style.

Note that both the Zim Doom & OniPress's Doom have the exact same font.

It's official! http://kotaku.com/invader-zim-is-coming-back-in-a-new-comic-book-series-1687068923

The first issue will be released July 1st. Jhonen will be involved, and so will Nickelodeon.

So Nick is involved? Well, I have lost a lot of interest in this now. Granted, it's a comic, not on their actual network, so best case scenario it's on par with Korra.

I don't know, I like Jhonen, but I do not like Nick anymore, and they have shown how readily they'll fuck over a niche series because it isn't fucking Spongebob. Which actually surprises me that they would do this, considering how "fuck you" they were towards Avatar on just about every fucking front they could, short of straight up cancelling the show, and besides merchandise, I always thought Avatar was the bigger series anyway, so I can't see this getting too great of treatment.

Now, maybe Nick's comic division is a much more progressive sector, and if that is the case, someone enlighten me so I don't have to sit here fearing the doom rather than rejoicing in it.

On another note, I haven't heard Vasquez actually say good things about the show, I generally thought he hated working on it. Did he still really like the concept, even after the actual creating of the show sucked the life from it? Or did he just not like working on a show in general, and it was less about Zim?

Oni Press provided a quote by Jhonen in the article,

Jhonen Vasquez said:
"I'm always confused when people say how much they miss Invader Zim because the show never stopped running in my head, and then I remember everyone else isn't in my head. I try to imagine the world for all those people who don't know what Zim's been up to since the show went off the air and it makes me shudder. How can people live that way? Hopefully this comic helps make the world a better place."
So it appears he's still really fond of Zim.

I read that, but seeing as that was in an announcement for the comic itself, it seems like that would be something more to be taken with a grain of salt.

*as some time passes for this part of the comment*

Okay, so I just watched one of his past interviews that was also kind of recent, and maybe he just wasn't a fan of the production side and how things were going with it, cause he acted like he actually liked Zim on the whole. So, that part of my fear of him just doing it for money is gone now.
