Am I the only one who wants the dev to respond again, just so Jim can respond , in turn, to that?

I hope he does, this is bloody hilarious! Its like the dev is so incredibly angry that he's blaming Sterling for the faults of the game.

By the way, does anyone know if the dev issued a copyright strike on the original (or new) video?

Good idea Dev, bash the reviewer that has a large following without even basic grammar checks and childish insults. That'll get the people on your sides and your game not ignored.

Jim has been going on about the 2 issues that this brings up for a while now.

Crap games getting onto Steam with no quality filter and games devs who can't take criticism. Every fresh example of both getting onto Steam makes Steam look worse as a platform. I'm glad he's doing these. That dev should be looking at that video and seeing problems to be fixed, not looking for ways to lash back. Too many examples of the latter have gone wrong recently for that to look like a good idea.

Actually, I fully agree with the developer! It's about ethics in Game Journalism!

The only sentence that was missing from the crazed response video.
To be honest, I bet that guy is a single dev, scraping his assets from CC Databases and stealing from Google Images.
Whatever this was, it cannot have been real.
On Steam, the guy even announces MORE Jim Rebuttals.
This is either the stupidest game dev ever OR this whole thing is the biggest False-Flag Trolling Operation in the History of Steam.

Looks like Totalbiscuit himself had something to say to the dev.

And of course the landmine works. You can clearly see that in the fact that the kill counter doesn't go up when a zombie walks over it, and the fact that the landmine wasn't even an inconvenience to anything. That's how landmines work in real life. It's realistic that it can't kill anything, it's a FEATURE!
Small detail that nobody involved seems to have noticed thus far: The first landmine he put down actually ended up killing him later on.

I'm guessing that's why his health went from 5 to -12,000.

Friendly-fire-only landmines. Genius!

At least Phil Fish was funny.

My personal favourite comment of his was, "Boycott harder nerds".

I do have a tiny bit of sympathy for the game dev, not much, but just a weeny bit.

While these aren't reviews, when you've got someone as well known as Jim Sterling, who has been well known as a reviewer for a long time on destructoid and now reviews editor on the escapist, ripping your game a new one without bothering to look at the game properly I can imagine it feels like it's not being given a fair shot. Maybe if it was made a bit clearer what the format of squirty plays is in the intro "This isn't a review, it's a literal first impression, turn the game on, jump straight in, no look at options, controls etc and record what happens", it might save a bit of the butthurt. Still, if your format is going to be "Ha Ha, this is shit!" as opposed to "This is really bad and here's why..." expect more angry responses.

Dev's angry rant was not a good idea though. If you've had the time to put up a new video with that much text in an attempted rebuttal then you should have had time to think that maybe you could at least make it look a bit less angry and sweary. Maybe a polite email along the lines of "Hey Jim, any advice on what we've done wrong and how to make it better?" Sure, it's not his job to do that but he might be so pleasantly surprised that he sends you a few pointers.

I went to an IGDA meetup a few months ago and I also noticed how overly-sensitive and insecure some devs are about their work. On the devs responding to the video, it might be interesting if this led to more reviews on all the Angry Reviewers on YT.

I really like "Jim Fucking Sterling" but I also like how there was "Jim Fucking Sterling son". It didn't make much sense, to be honest, but it's almost like some sort of tile
He was using it sort of like "I'm Rick James *****!" with son replacing ***** in the example. Sort of as an exclamation and emphasis.

Another video has been posted: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugqg3cbfETc&list=UUsgTnbnZfHU9TY1F9i2eucQ

I truly hope this is the actual developer and not just a troll. I have no idea how someone could be so sanctimonious and lacking in self-awareness, but it's hilarious!

Rofl, and we're sheep now. xD

And he goes the tired route of accusing Jim of stealing property without his permission to do the first impression. Amazing how often devs play that card when it's a negative review of the game.

This has taken a turn for the better. I am incredibly amused, probably more than I should be. I can't believe that this developer continues with this shit. And he keeps on going about his hard work. Finding pictures on Google = hard work. Is this person 14 years old? Because he sounds just like that with his infantile attacks on Jim (Fucking Sterling son).

Ugh. I'm tired of this dev now.

He works for a living? Clearly, he has no understanding of the professional world of game development. What he's doing isn't a job, it's a hobby that he clearly wants to be a get-rich-quick scheme. Making a livelihood out of stuff like this requires more than a "good enough" attitude when you reach the limit of your talent. If something doesn't work the way it's intended, it's on you to figure out the reason why and acquire the skills to put it right.

Bottom line, you want to get paid for something you love doing? You've got to be damned good at it.

Though in his defense, he is at least continuing a dialogue (of sorts), and not just trying to purge the review from the internet instead, like a lot of those devs have done in the past.

I still think he's an irrational, immature loon, but at least he's letting the criticism stand on it's own.
