And that's why I strongly believe The Witcher 2 is the best-looking game. It has much better colours/contrast than any other RPG or FPS or...

I play it on Ultra ( w/o Ubersampling ) and was really impressed.

Personally, I'm kind of tied between Brutal Legend and Team Fortress 2, both do a commendable job of using brighter colors in conjunction with more common (in games) neutral tones, and they both have fantastic design. Personally, I prefer the design of Brutal Legend a little more, but I think TF2 does a better job of making the designs cohesive with the tech. A few character and locale designs in BL just don't translate all that well into in-game quality CG, General Lionwhyte being the most obvious example.

Part of me also wants to give the honor to Costume Quest.

I disagree.

Journey is the best looking game this gen.

And I dare you to play through the entire level where you surf down the dunes into the abandoned ruins and tell me I'm wrong.

Okay seriously, what are those hands? They're definitely not alien hands because they're a)too thick to be warrior-caste hands and b)they're not webbed like the Giger alien hands.

Oh and yeah good episode.

Alright good points. I think for once your article made me think about something I'd not thought about.

Viva Pinata does look appealing. Too bad I thought the gameplay was horrible.

No.

Team Fortress 2.

A. Colours.
B. Character Design.
C. Animations.

Pinata is just Pinata.

Hm... i go with Mirrors Edge. It worked with blinding whites and bright neon colours to get a, excuse me, fucking sexy visual design. It's a shame the gameplay was a bit lackluster so there probably won't be a sequel.
You mean to say it blinded you so you could not see anything around? because the light in Mirrors edge was awful.

This is probably the first Jimqisition that i really dont agree with. Shiny colours and cartoonish looks are not better on HD systems. when you got real high definition (not the fake one like say xbox) contrast doesnt matter, because your windows is precise enough to enjoy the different shades. you dont need to see red blinking object to notice it anymore. Personally i woul take the brown-grey dullness of MW3 over the bright annoyance of Piniata.
And no the 10 year old "zelda" (you showed it) does not look good comparead to 10 year old fallout (i know its older, thats for mere example). And it gets even worse when you realize it had no gameplay to keep you in either.

I don't know about color and lastability, but when I think of good graphics, I think of good-looking graphics like Journey, Bastion or Braid.

I think Jim should have drawn a distinction between graphics and aesthetics. I'll agree that colourful and bold are better looking than gritty and dark but we're kind of talking aesthetics as much as graphics with that. Graphics wise Viva Piñata is good, but not great, it's the aesthetic which brings it up to make it look good (and the same can be said for similar games). Other games are graphically superior but make poor use of the graphics or attempt photo-realism, I'm with Jim on defending that but I agree that it is worse looking than other ideas.

I do disagree that Viva Pinata is the best, I think they go over the top with the boldness of it all and I prefer a subtle but bolder than real life look. I wish the 'gritty' games would opt for more colour, I think it works a lot better to contrast the horrors of what's going on with a real and colourful world. Go to a park, looking down my road in the sun there are LOADS of colours. Those games forgo them to make the world grey and brown and it loses that appeal for me. I'm trying to think of where I've seen it done well and I can't remember but I have, a horror filled world which is brutal and cruel yet is still colourful and quite pretty. It works, it really does.

Why do people think I am in some sort of arms race with Extra Credits?
They are intellectuals speaking on the gaming industry. So are you. Comparison is natural and inevitable, whether you like it or not. Ditto for Yahtzee.
You didnt make simple comparison you made a big issue about extra credits, which might I add is a clown show by now, having covered the same topic.

What he says resonates with gamers whilst a lot of other commentators are condescending idiots, eg moviebob, or massive industry apologists, eg extra credits. He makes good, well thought out points with evidence as well as a concern for gamers and their exploitation/mis-treatment by devs/publishers as well as devs exploitation by publishers which other commentators do not. They prefer to tell us to shut up and accept whatever bullshit is being thrown at us for the good of the industry.

Gotta ask, what was the game at 5:10? I remember playing a demo on a PSUnderground disc.
