X Rebirth was pretty bad.
But it wasn't the big outrage fuel, it was just a little plane with few but faithful passengers, that exploded, got mentioned in the news once, and was then forgotten.

I guess they'll eventually fix it, but they'll never manage to fix my trust.

Jim, can I just say Thank you.

Not only did you include iOS games in your game of the year awards, but also in your worst games list. We need more game journalists doing stuff like this if iOS games are to be taken more seriously. They deserve to be included. The good and the bad.

And yeah, I picked up All The Bravest when it was on sale for free on the app store, haven't paid a single micropayment in it...and I still feel like I've paid too much for it. Truly a dreadful game all around. Final Fantasy skinned whack-a-mole piece of shit.

Personally, I would have put The Bureau: XCOM Declassified and Sanctum 2
Wait, since when was Sanctum 2 considered bad? Granted I hadn't heard of the game till some mates got the 4 pack and gave me a copy but still, it's a pretty decent and fun game and I haven't seen anything round saying otherwise.

OT: eh...needed something to watch for 8 minutes, this did the job.

I'm disappointed GTA Online wasn't named worst game of the year.... Or even made the list.

5 - Its so troll infested the only way to enjoy the game is to stick with invite only & even then that means ignoring your phone for anyone inviting you to a mission. Of course you could also enter in that passive mode but it cost in game money & all that does is prevent you from actually playing & you can still get run over by a troll.
This does not surprise me one bit. Half the appeal you hear about GTA and similar sandbox games is what I call "Psychopath Mode", where you pretty much troll the hell outta everyone that's not you. Why would it be any different just because some of them are other players?

None of these games are particularly good, but Jim's ability to see every bad game as a personal insult is quite remarkable, and it makes me wonder if he's just pretending for the same of sensationalism or if this person just likes to be angry all the time.

I'm surprised Jim didn't emphasize the "colon" in Aliens: Colonial Marines. It seems so appropriate for those puns since it was a steaming pile of fecal matter.

Damn! I'm impressed Jim was able to find the only 10 games from this year that were worse than Gone Home.
What exactly was bad about Gone Home? I'm not lashing out or anything (I haven't even played it), I'm just curious.

To top this, watch next week's episode be hosted by Thanos.

Anyway, I almost expected Arkham Origins to get in there, given how much Jim hated it. Nevertheless, an excellent list.

Yup, that intro and outro has me convinced that Jim Sterling really needs to make an appearance on LRR. I mean, just listen to that voice! LOOK AT THAT GAS MASK. Imagine all the material that LRR would be able to work with with a real life Jim Sterling!

This needs to happen before LRR ends.

Some people had problems with the quality of the story, the "It's just like Dear Esher and it's not a 'real game' because you just walk around" argument, and it got a lot of good reviews which I feel like makes people hate games they would normally just dislike.

A lot of it has to do with the fact that so many game critics feel the need to praise this game, because failing to might make them seem like ignorant philistines. In that respect, Gone Home is Emperors New Clothes: The Game.

Not Really That Groundbreaking...
Despite being held in contrast to the moronic FPSs this industry is flooded with, Gone Home has more in common with the genre than it would like to admit.

Think about it. A typical level in Halo would involve you moving in a linear fashion from area to area. Each new area gives you some dudes to shoot, while Cortana and your other friends read you various plot points over your headset. Sometimes you have to loop around places, or back track,

Gone Home works just like that, except instead of shooting dudes, you look for letters and other clues as to what your family's been up to this past year. Sam telepathically narrates exposition into your head while you read old letters and passive-aggressive family memos.

The game isn't very subtle about its plot. Sam beams the important stuff straight into your head, while the minor plot-lines of your parents are spelled out in hard-to-miss documents.

The Plot is Stupid

The story is that Sam was supposed to be waiting for your arrival, except at the last minute she got a call from Lonnie, who has decided to go AWOL. They decide to take your moms jewelry and all the VCRs and make a run for it.

BUT! Before hitting the road, your sister decides to:
-Leave her diary (that she wanted you to read) in the attic.
-Leave the key to the attic inside a secret room that only she and Lonnie knew about.
-Leave the directions to the secret room on a desk in a room on the east side of the house.
-Lock the door that leads to the east half of the house, so that the only way to get over there is a detour through the basement.
-Lock the door to the basement.
-Leave the key to the basement in a locker in her room.
-Rip the combination to this locker in two, and place the halves inside hidden wall compartments.

(I'm half pulling this from memory, and half pulling from a walk-through, so there might be a mistake up there...)

She does all of this knowing full well that you have never once been in this house. Not only that, but after wasting so much time setting up this elaborate scavenger hunt, she leaves a note telling you that she's left, that you shouldn't go looking for her, and that THERE'S NO TIME TO EXPLAIN WHY SHE'S GONE.

Sam Greenbriar is the dumbest character of the year.

Price Point
$20 for a game that barely lasts two hours? And you though FF:ATB was a highway robbery...

Visuals
The graphics are just bad, even for an indie game.

Rape Culture
There's a torn out, crumpled up diary page hidden in the house. In it, Sam details the time Lonnie forced herself on her in the middle of the night while Sam was sleeping. Lonnie is 18/19 in the game, but Sam is only 17. Age of consent in Oregon was, and still is, 18 years.

That's rape. Rape is wrong, but this fact seems lost on both the developers and Gone Homes lunatic fan-base.

Ride to Hell Retribution is the kind of game that its so bad that you just have to try it yourself. sort of like that trucking game where you drive faster backwards. Youtube doesnt do it justice just how broken the game is.

Called ATB being top. I knew Jim hated it as much as most people, and how it signifies everything wrong with current day Square-Enix. The same fuckers that needed Nintendo to basically BRIBE them to bring an actually good game outside Japan with Bravely Default, and have been cramming Lightning in goddam everything when only Japan and a very small minority of westerners like her. (Which I still can't fathom, she's more Mary Sue than the original Mary Sue.)

for me personally I'd say COD Ghosts was the most insulting game I have ever played. I haven't played any of the games on that list and there's is no argument from me about them. However, Ghosts had even less gameplay then any other COD game or even BF4's campaign. The fact that it Starts with Raven's and Neversoft's logo at the start also doesn't help.
