A.) Did he say anything or was it just some unfocussed rambling with the word "fucking" thrown about numerous times.

B.) Nothing in this video that couldn't have been said as well or better with a written article.

C.) Seriously. Get some production values. Lose the handheld mic, lose the bland piss-stain coloured background and get some lighting.

D.) 5:40 to say, literally, "Video games are not movies and vice versa. Get over it." That was literally (yeah, I used it twice) the entire content of the video.

Could be a good column. But who is his audience? It can't be gamers, no gamer really compares the two. It is directed towards developers? And if so, do any of them ever watch anything from anywhere?!? I mean, they seem to do whatever it is they want to do, no matter how fuckin' idiotic everyone says it is.

I like what he says but i dont like him. I dont give a flying two dollar fuck who you are, if you wear aviators (in fact any type of sunglasses) indoors, you are a prick. A big, daft, floppy prick with greasy pubes. Not to mention that fucking suit. He's having a go at films and games being different, yet he is a video game "commentator" who is wearing something that would fit in in a hollywood film. I know that previous sentence didn't make sense, but this guy needs that mic shoved so far up his ass, you could hear his heart beat.

That music in the background while he is talking has to go. I thought it was something else on my computer for a minute and couldn't figure it out. It's just loud enough to be annoyingly distracting and I couldn't make it through the whole video because of it, I'm sorry.

From what I did see though, it shows promise, but there needs to be something other than him standing there talking with a few cartoony pop-ups. If that changed later in the video I apologize, but like I said I couldn't get through it with the music and him at the same time.
Are you kidding? That was the ONLY good part of the video. Final Fantasy IX's Jesters of the Moon is fantastic and Nobuo Uematsu is GOD. >.<
I honestly don't know what you just said, but I think you're talking about the music. I didn't say I wasn't a fan of the music, but the combination of music and him talking at the same time was too distracting and annoying. I didn't actually listen to the song so it may very well be an amazing one :D

And just so I'm clear: I won't be watching any future videos of this guy.

You guys really are a bunch of insular Yahtzee circle jerk offs as i heard. Have you guys ever been on another website?

Jim Sterling is a very opinionated individual, and whilst his presentation might be raw his opinions are always valid.
But THIS opinion has been done better already on this site. He needs to get better topics and fix his delivery where he doesn't come off as a complete douche. As I had stated in my original response this is a miss unless he gets better topics and fixes his delivery his random f-bombs detract from him being able to be taken seriously.

Do we really need ANOTHER, pointlessly angry, low production value, screaming and hollering videogame critic, standing in the middle of the frame in a poorly lit room, ranting a singular, rehashed opinion for 5 straight minutes?

From begining to end, that was just so very unpleasent. I won't be watching again.

Christ, some of you won't even give Jim a second chance. Maybe Jim should have had blond hair, a short skirt and a top 5 list to gain your instant approval.
(not hating on Lisa Foiles, just trying to make a point)
You forgot Poland! And the boobs, and the fact that she's a blonde no longer.
... and the fact that her videos are good.
(By which I mean that they're fun, occasionally innovative, and quite often give me tips about games I didn't know about...)
I just tried to stick to the objective facts (and now I realize I didn't correct him on the short skirt - wich is a lie). I enjoy her videos too, hopefully for the right reasons...

I like you. They don't realize their idol Yahtzee is just taking what people like and spitting in it's face for views. Jim believes what he is saying like it or not, which makes him more credible.

So now we have an informative, usually rant-ish style video every day except weekends. In a way, that's kind of a good thing but I miss the more actiony shows.

The drunk that just pissed on my coat and humped my chair may have valid opinions... that doesn't mean I want to watch him...

Valid opinions are a dime a dozen. Everyone has opinions, and most people have good reasoning to back it up. The guy said nothing that hasn't been said a million times by other contributors on this website and by the forumites in general.

Definitely agree with you Jim. The concept of games trying to be film is like the early 1900s when photographers were creating blurry photos and claiming that they were better because they were like paintings. Eventually Ansel Adams and his group f/64 started taking sharp, decent photos and thus the unique art form of modern photography was born. Hopefully this kind of thing will happen to the games industry soonish.

Hmm, much more ranty, but this series may just grow on me.

My question is where the Escapist finds all these people, I mean, Zero Punctuation, Extra Credits, The Big Picture, and now Jim o_O
