Reiji in the anime was flat out insane and volatile. All those dreams about stabbing people and whatnot are completely out of character. He's not the healthiest person in the world in the manga, don't get me wrong, it's just that he's quite differently problematic there. He seemed in character in the OVAs but the way they handled him in the anime was so that they'd have some form of conclusion with the story in a place where the manga seemed to not end for quite a few years. (and it indeed has not)

I'm not sure how much you've read btw but he has gotten quite better lately.

I remember reading the first few manga books of this way back when and the greatest impression that I got from it was that it was really really funny, I'll be the first one to admit that I have a dark sense of humour but this really did tickle me, I make it a matter of pride to be able to make someone feel uncomfortable and this does just that; I found it hilarious, insightful and all around a brilliant, if just a bit too subtle of a satire about the over simplifications of relationships and how age groups are treated thusly.

Not to mention knowing all the stuff that happens in the last three volumes gives some serious perspective on what happens even in the earliest. Everything Shigure says now makes perfect sense, it's easy to see why Kyo is uncharacteristically somber visiting Kyoko's grave, and there's, like, three layers of subtext behind <url=http://i53.tinypic.com/2gv9g6u.jpg>this image.
Exactly. It's pretty interesting going back through and seeing all the little things that weren't explained until the last couple volumes.

Also, the manga never actually finished, so its omnibus stops in the goddamn middle. I mean, it was only enjoyably mediocre up to that point, but I still want to know how the frickin' story ends! >_>
Yeah, I have that "Complete" Collection. It's always good when the manga adaptation just... ends in the middle of the story.

Not even middle, the anime is like...1/3 of the story, ova included.

They actually released a new ova together with one of the latest tankoubon in Japan...I think it was vol 8 or 9. It had the summer trip parts and all the fun that ensued there.
