Well, this is a website full of nerd/geek culture, and there are several people who have admitted to enjoying sports. In fact, there was a thread sometime this past month about American Football.

I might be a rarity in that I didn't get bullied during High School and I also don't like sports at all, despite my entire family constantly telling me that I needed to play football or baseball. If anything, I enjoyed playing basketball the most.

Meanwhile, tell your commissioner to fuck off. Which anime was it?
it was soul eater as you can guess

It's funny but I only really saw a Jock/Nerd divide when I got into my university course, I study Medicine and so everyone is reasonably intelligent but you have relatively boring normal students then you have a social clique made up of the kids that are rich, sporty and went to the same private schools. It was really weird to see. Though I decided right from day one to ignore the shit out of that divide and that's why I have friends from both groups.

What's it matter what the name of your team is? Nobody in America gives a shit about Seahawks, but that didn't stop Seattle. Just tell this commissioner guy to stop caring so much if it bothers him.

It's something that varies from person to person, there isn't really a 'jock' culture in Enlgand but we do have those vociferously obnoxious fuckwits otherwise known as chavs who feel the need to give random pedestrians a hard time. Anyway, I'm a nerd who's into football (soccer, if you're American and wrong!) and up until a couple of years ago I played pretty regularly and really while most of the people were perfectly nice and everything, I didn't really have a lot in common with the people I was playing with. It was pretty funny as a kid I remember one of my friends perplexedly asking something along the lines of 'how can you be into football and metal?' as if this was some kind of unholy miscegenation of two cultures that were never meant to be. It seems that many people are too ensconsed within these arbirtary social barriers to express elements of their personality/interests that might risk them being ostracised from their desired social circle, there's kind of an invisible line seperating the more artistic/academic and the athletic/sportily inclined, the trendy/popular and the obscure/cult appeal with what would appear to be either a minority or simply quiet third/majority occupying the cross section (this could really use a Venn diagram). Basically, people are fucking wierd.

I don't think this is so much of a jocks vs. nerds thing so much as "a couple of people were being pricks" thing. I know plenty of people, myself included, that like both. Gamers who love cricket, comic book fans who love football, maybe it's just Yorkshire is it's own special, magical place, but the whole social stereotyping thing kind of went out the window.

Shit. I read this as "locks vs nerds" and I was going to brag about how I can pick locks. Strictly a party trick before anyone gets the wrong idea.

I don't even know what a jock is outside the stereotype portrayed in American movies. I've never met anyone in real life who is like that.

well, i'm a nerd, i used to play football, soccer, basketball, and take martial arts lessons. but i got bored with it around age 12-13. i will LARP, and i will ply paintball, and i LOVE watching football (american), GO PATS!

yeah i've seen an divide before. there was always a definite jock clique that was annoying as shit. which is kind of why i gave up sports. by the time that jock clique started forming i just didn't like that type of person. and that's when i found Anime, Pokemon games, and Harry Potter.

ever since i've been a heavy book reader, heavy gamer, and big time manga fan. yeah.... never going back. may the force be with you brothers (and sisters).

I live in the UK, but being raised in Canada, I was a bit more aware of the jock/nerd divide, though at our school it was more like the Popular Clique/nerd divide as there wasn't really much of a sports programme. After the first year of high school, the school divided the kids into streams according to academic skill, thereby generally separating the Popular kids from the nerdy kids. I played sports outside of school, and was nerdy inside school, so I maybe had a finger in each pie!

After moving to the UK at 16, there was an extreme lack of a jock/nerd divide, though people did think I was weird and possibly gay due to the fact that I was female AND liked playing football.

So if they don't give a shit about it they continue to not give a shit about the name even after you had named it.
.
No, I'm not really into Sports.

I dunno why someone would get bent out of shape about a name regardless of where it came from...

Pick a bunch of different names, some anime related and some not. Hold a vote. The winning name is chosen. That way no one gets all pissy about it.
