Johnny Depp has been dropped from new Pirates Of The Caribbean films, according to reports.

The actor, 55, has starred in five films over the past 15 years, but it seems he may have made his last appearance as Captain Jack Sparrow.

Original scriptwriter Stuart Beattie appeared to confirm the news to DailyMail TV as he revealed Disney has plans to rework the franchise.

While he did not confirm or deny when it was put to him that it seemed Depp is "finished as the lead of these movies", Beattie nodded when it was suggested the star was out, and said: "I think he's had a great run.

"Obviously, he's made that character his own and it's become the thing that he's most famous for now.

"And kids all over the world love him as that character so I think it's been great for him, it's been great for us, so I'm just very, very happy about it."

Beattie, who will not be working on the new films, said: "There's that saying, 'don't frown because it's over, smile because it happened'.

I saw this coming eventually. It was only a matter of time.

Not confirmed though. Its only a rumor and someone who may or may not be in the production, he's just the original screenwriter, didn't say either way.

Wow, I hope that?s not true; Depp really makes those films, IMHO. They?d have still been good spectacle films without him, but Depp?s Jack Sparrow adds the much needed and clever levity that makes them stand out; I can?t imagine what they?d try to do without him.

I think they should go a step further and drop the future Pirate of the Carribean movies. Now that's a franchise that's been milked to death.

This.

While there are some franchises I do want to go forever, not EVERY franchise needs to go forever. Sometimes things can just...end.

Didn't the last movie pretty much end in a way that makes it impossible to make a proper sequel? There's no supernatural stuff left in the world and the whole pirate thing was pretty much coming to an end at that point. I think they even said that it was going to be the last PotC movie. If they're rebooting the franchise, it makes sense that Depp wouldn't be a part of the reboot.

And I'd be glad if he wasn't a part of it anymore because I love the character of Jack Sparrow and Depp's portrayal of him. I don't want Hollywood to keep milking him to absurdity.

But yeah its gonna be weird without Johnny Depp. Heck I found it weird when Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightly did not reprised their roles in the 4th movie.

Can't say I'm too upset. Pirates of the Caribbean was always garbage, and Depp's performance in them was cringeworthy. And apart from that Johnny Depp is just kind of a creepy weirdo now who was already overexposed years ago. I hope he stays away from movies altogether, that way I can try my best to remember him how he used to be back in the 90's.

Why bother either way? They are never going to follow up on the best pirates of the Caribbean production of all time:

Honestly I'm still not sold on the idea that there should have been more than one of those.

The first one wasn't too bad, I'd even say it was pretty good, though it's not a movie I'd care to watch more than once or twice. And Depp's performance was decent in that one, Jack Sparrow came off as a clearly intelligent, mostly sane, man who was good at planning and manipulating circumstances to his benefit. It wasn't until the sequels that Sparrow as turned into a bumbling idiot who only survived out of sheer luck.
In fact, I find that most of the characters turned into ridiculous, pathetic parodies of themselves in the following movies.

Same here. The first one had a nicely wrapped up ending that didn't really lend itself to a sequel. Or, alternatively, each Pirates sequel should have focused on a different pirate captain/ characters with only a few things to tie them all together, like Tortuga or Port Royal being visited or have a ship from the previous movies show up (i.e. Black Pearl or Interceptor).

Kinda wish he'd be dropped from future movies, period. I can't remember the last time he didn't drag down a movie.

Probably the first Pirates.

I cannot stand Johnny Depp. I actually avoid movies all together if he is in them, movies I would have loved to see otherwise, and was a huge fan of the stories, I just cannot stand the guy. I really dislike his acting style and find him obnoxious and pretty gross overall. When I think about it, he very well may be my least favorite actor. I didn't even realize I had a least favorite actor until I think about Depp. So yea I hope they Drop him from everything. That would be great so there will be more movies I can look forward to that he would not ruin.

I have all these pirates of the Caribbean mega Bloks and Lego ships but would have liked it more if they had found just about anyone else to play Jack Sparrow other than Depp. I am not impressed with him, like at all, repulsed would be a more fitting description.

Film Crit Hulk did a piece [https://observer.com/2018/09/film-crit-hulk-keanu-reeves-and-good-acting/] a while back about Keanu Reeves and how he's an underrated actor. The stand out early in is this quote: "Specifically, I thought of a line from the TV show Community where Abed is trying to figure out the enigma of Nicolas Cage and asks, ?Is he a good bad actor like Keanu Reeves? Or a bad good actor like Johnny Depp??, before going on to talk quite a bit about Depp (it is section 2 if you want to read it yourself).

Hulk's take on Depp is that he wants to be a "Range actor" like Daniel Day-Lewis, someone who can take on any role and make a super convincing portrayal of the person behind the part in the screenplay. But Depp, for all the range he has, has devolved into this weird stereotype where he puts on a lot of affectations for each of his characters, but it never ends up meaning anything. As Hulk puts it: Depp acts at the actors who share scenes with him, not with them. He also displaces the 'reality' of the movie he is in, making every scene he's in about his weird characterization choices instead of about whatever the scene is supposed to add to the wider movie.

I still think some of his early works are great (the 9th Gate and Secret Window both feature solid performances from him) but ever since he learned that he can act weird in front of a camera after the first PotC-movie, he's been going way off the rails to the point that I can't stand anything he's been in after the first PotC.

I think the last movie I enjoyed his performance in was oddly enough Rango, and animated movie.

About time. Regardless of what he did for the role or the movies as a whole, I've heard he's bad news. Chronically unprofessional on set, chronically awful off it. I haven't seen much beyond the first two films, but he treated the second of those as merely a pay cheque it seemed and a couple of zeroes beyond his due at that.

Man, the hate is thick in here! I, for one, enjoy Depp's Jack Sparrow, how he takes the piss out of otherwise archetypal swashbuckling pirate fantasy; I think he made the movies fun. Without CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow, the [main] villains will have to carry the films as they are arguably the only other interesting characters in any of them (well, the villains and the monkey.)
