JRPG characters you wish you could "get rid of"

I've played a number of JRPGs in my time, and in every one there's that one character. You know the one. The one that you just look at and you just want to shove your over sized anime sword right were it counts. They could be smug, pretentious, cocky, over-compensating, overly happy, stupid, confused, under or over driven, lying, cheating, ugly, immature, pathetic, stale, generic, unwise, teenagers, or any combination of these. You wish they would do something to your team so you could just end them so you won't have to look at them anymore, or, god forbid they give you a "choice" to just stab them a little to take their edge off.
My list starts here but as I play JRPGs I start to see more and more of these "people".
Tales of Symphonia 1&2:Genis, Raine, Colette, Marta.
Arc Rise Fantasia:Ryfia, Serge, Cecille, Leslie (especially Leslie)
Infinite Undiscovery:All three vile children, Michelle, Balbagan, Aya.

I don't want to be completely negative here, I know JRPGs can get it right, I've seen it! Fire emblem has mostly not failed me in this, I liked almost every character. If there is this character you wish to talk about, please go ahead.

Penelo and Vanille in Final Fantasy XII and XIII, respectively.

Now that I think about it, I believe that they are actually the same person. >.>

The entire cast of FF XIII except for Fang and the black fellow whose name I have no idea how to spell. Saze? Zaze? Sahz? Whatever. The afro guy.

90% of all JRPG characters are horrible horrible cliched characters, or at least uninteresting. So I would basically destroy the lot of them.

How about characters in general? They're in just about every game genre ever, not just JRPGs. And besides, there are JRPGs without any characters like this - ever played Earthbound, or Xenoblade?

Tidus and Wakka and Rikku and Yuna from FFX. First 3 are dumb jocks that are somehow fish people and can swim underwater for no reason and Yuna because she talks ... like ... this ...

The game would of been much better if it was Auron, Lulu and that blue guy with no personality. Would of been a 3 party team!

To be fair, that's hardly a problem unique to JRPGs. 90% of all game characters are bland cliches.

Hell, a lot of them aren't even sufficiently well defined to qualify for cliche status.

Oh God, that feeling when there's that one character you've wanted to vent about for a long, long time. And needed an excuse. But can't remember them when the opportunity arrives.

Certainly none of the mainstream picks. Tidus, Squall, Cloud, and so forth, don't bother me.

Mileage will be varying for that. I would say that it's not general characters in JRPGs. It's just the ones who have the annoying tendancy to be annoying. And yes, you can indeed determine who that is fairly easily.

As for Earthbound, haven't played but have seen. The funny thing about it is that this is a game that seems to be Dr. Slump's world to me. And if people aren't into that style...well, you get the idea.

What I meant was "not just annoying characters from JRPGs, but annoying characters from everything, without bias". If I meant "JRPG characters regardless of their personality" I wouldn't have cited two JRPGs with (IMHO) no annoying characters, would I?

Yes but for some reason people tend to give JRPG characters a pass more then with other games. Sometimes they even hold horrible characters on a pedestal and praise them for being amazing pieces of character development. So well it's not a JRPG problem, people don't seem to understand how horrible these characters are.

The point was not entirely distinct on my mind. Still, take what I said and expand to 'characters in other media' if you must, though the subject was probably JRPGs here for a reason.

Well plenty have annoyed the hell out of me while others have proven quite likeable actually but the ones that I wish I could have gotten rid of are definitely :-

Rush Sykes from The Last Remnant seriously bland design annoying as hell and generally completely unlikeable without any redeeming features and he ties with the worst character in any jrpg ever with

Vaan from FFXII yes the character who makes vanilla seem an exciting flavour its not so much he is annoying its just hes not anything he is just completely bland in design and personality even when compared to the other characters in game (and with a few exceptions they were very poor).

The only other one who I could not stand was Snow from FFXIII (yes square enix again) I was really hoping for a `shocking` death scene featuring him so I could have a good laugh and celebrate, Hope wasnt much better but at least he changed a little but Snow isnt on the same level as Vaan and Rush (no matter how much I hate him).

It has been a while since I played it but I seem to remember Mitsuru from persona 3 annoying the hell out of me not because of her character but because she never did what I wanted her to but I cant remember what exactly, I seem to have repressed that memory.

It's the hair. He's perfectly tolerable in any costume that comes with a helmet or hair change. But that cowlick from hell will get on anyone's nerves.

OT: Rafa and Malak from FFT. Good god almighty did those two have a deathwish. Especially Rafa. It's like they couldn't not die when it would be the least convienent to you.

And a full 3/4ths of the Chrono Cross cast. They would have all been fine as NPCs and quest-givers, but dammit I do not need over 50 members when I'm only going to use Serge, Kid, and Glenn.

This doesn't really happen to me when playing JRPGS. Although the entirety of the cast in FFXII except Vash's brother can go to hell.
FPSs like COD on the other hand, i wish the main character, the supporting cast, and the developers would dissapear.
OH OH. And Suikoden 3. I couldn't get past the mid-point of the game because the story got too annoying (It being carried by the most boring characters i've ever seen in a JRPG)

Yeah, Fire emblem characters, even if sometimes under developed, tend not to be annoying.
