Didn't watch the video cause I did not want to see this stuff. I don't know what kind of justice exists in the South but, this does not shine a positive light on it. I wanna see this bastard "Father" gets whats coming to him.

I would vote for this judge, the problem with kids these days is they have no fear of authority, this little thief was illigally downloading, i bet she didnt do it again. If more parents were like the judge then we'd have less teen crime.
illigally downloading != thievery.
and your comment, to be honest, is just rubish. one should not fear authority, but respect it out of its own merrit. this man clearly does not deserve that. he deserves to be kneecapped and then stepped on.

I am a supporter of spanking.
I'm the youngest of four, and all of us received spankings growing up.
But that punishment was reserved for the worst of the worst, when we were exceptionally bad.
Most of the time, it was plain old grounding.

I love my parents, and will probably spank my kids like my parents spanked me: Open hand, covered bottom, NEVER EVER out of anger, and only for the really bad stuff.

That all being said: What this guy did was abuse. My spankings were 3 or 4 slaps TOPS.
Enough to get the idea, and that's it.

This was repeated whippings with a leather strap. Over and over.
That's not 'punishment', that's flat out child abuse.

How ANY loving father could continue to whip his daughter like that over and over is beyond comprehension.
Unless you realize he's not a loving father. He's an abusive dick.

Lock him up.

After a lawsuit for Copyright infringement she could have cost him his house and life savings. This it was orgs like the RIAA live for. A dumb college kid with no money = no profit. A rich Republican judge? $$$$$

He warned her, she didn't listen.

I would have taken her computer and tossed it in the trash.

His actions weren't overkill, it was abuse.
He beat his daughter. That's not the kind of action any parent should do, let alone a judge.

While I'd say the mother does take a share of the blame, it's certainly not more her fault. The truth of it is, I'm assuming the majority of the Escapist isn't to familiar with spousal abuse. There is usually more psychological abuse done than physical. The mother is a victim too, even if her abuse wasn't caught on film.
I did. hence its overkill (which turned into abuse).

And having seen spousal abuse and dating abuse (never personally on me or against someone else by me, but through friends and neighbors), yeah, you get that worthless feeling. But this woman fails as a mother by not stopping the judge and not taking her daughter with her when SHE left HIM. If she's strong enough to leave, then she should also think of the daughter who is going to now get even worse cause the mother isnt there.

The mother may have been abused, but thats no excuse to leave and leave your child there, especially if you feel so sorry for it and never wanted it to happen.

*and dont say "well her father is a judge so he'd rig the system" cause if thats true this guy is just gonna skate on by regardless.

The belts a bit unnecessary, but what this girl did was illegal and wrong, and she does deserve to be punished. to the extent the father took it? certainly not, and his actions are overkill. But she does deserve punishment.
Im by no means defending this man for abuse, only saying that hte mother is just as much guilty of this and the the girl did commit a serious crime that her father as a judge knew would get her in serious trouble.

He says something like "get on your stomach like a woman". The guy is obviously a misogynist and likely a bigot as well. He likes to beat women it's obvious from the video. I'm ashamed this guy is a judge in my state.

Aransas County Court-At-Law Judge William Adams took a belt to his own teenage daughter as punishment for using the internet to acquire music and games that were unavailable for legal purchase at the time. She has had ataxic cerebral palsy from birth that led her to a passion for technology, which was strictly forbidden by her father's backwards views.
Yeah this sentence right here, this is all already 150% bullshit.

What the hell kind of place has elected law court officials?

OT: Girl with psychological problems is abused by guardian, who is a respected government official; girl videotapes the abuse and releases it to the public. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, anyone?

Wait, has this properly been shown to the local law enforcement?

I mean a direct complaint needs to be address before anyone can take action, right?

Death penalty for the both of these faggots. Problem solved. Death should be delivered to those who cause emotional harm to their offspring, even these worthless pieces of shit.

Agreed.
I don't get why it's OK to physically attack your child, just because they did something wrong or piss you off. Yet you wouldn't dream of doing it to someone random/other half/parents.

It's sad that innocent children have "protectors" who think like this, they're little innocent kids that you brought in to the world. Fucking hell, look after them.

why?

Ever since we stopped beating our kids when they do shit wrong, all we see every year is worse juvenile delinquency.

Once upon a time kids new their place, and they new the consequences of their actions, now all we have is juvenile delinquents and rampant drug abuse. The girl is still alive, all she got was a few beats across her ass, it probably did her the world of good.

**edit*** note the kids in a related article who shot another kid and a good samaritan over a DS. Seriously these kids should have got a good whipping when they were younger. Read your robert heinlen, he predicted the collapse of society due in part to the removal of corporal punishment. Every year he seems more prophetic.
Corporal punishment isn't the same as child abuse - and I am also against corporal punishment.

He openly showed he's a misogynist with his language and hitting his daughter's legs and back with a leather belt is far from a little lecture about piracy.

Btw are you really setting this case and murder on the same level?
If they carry guns at this age and group up to steal something they obviously already came from a violent and bad background which led to this.

edit:

@Bakan: You have to remember this is the internet so you are bound to find such people. Moreover, my guesstimate is that the majority here would defend him if you threw in a chance to win an Ipad2 if they did.
Yeah, I know.
It is just pretty sad on a forum with such a young audience, that some people defend the abuse and in other threads don't care about privacy and their own rights.
