So it looks like the next big thing in gaming now is motion sensor controls, Nintendo have the Wii (and now Motion Plus), Microsoft have Natal, and Sony have to two wands OF DOOM! (no idea on the actual name).

Now is it me or do the 3 big companies turning away from the fanbases they have and are all jumping on the casual train. I mean all these new gadgets could enrich our gaming experiences but at the same time could cause many developers to turn towards more family friendly games. Look at the Wii and all the shovelware it has, it could happen to the other 2.

Am i the only one scared of these new innovations or do other people agree with me?

Not really. The wii err nintendo will always make more family oriented games. always have always will, no matter what type of control base it has. There's no reason to be scared of Voice recognition or by far superior motion detection. The only people that should be afraid of this "new" use of technology is nintendo.

Sony has been making casual games of this type since they came out with the EYE Toy. I don't see how any of these concepts are new or why we should be afraid of them.

It'll be like the fad for brown apocalyptic worlds in shooters.
Yeah. That's annoying. They should make turn brown into violent pink or a powerful orange.

I don't really know what to say. Natal looks really promising for some games, though I don't think it'll be good for shooters. I mean, who would want to have sore muscles when trying to gun down imaginary enemies?

I don't mind as long as you have the option of using a controller too.
I can't see a lot of games working with the xbox motion sensor thingy other than wii like family games. If they can do it and make it work itll be impressive. But I do, like a lot of other gamers, want the option of using controllers still.

Don't get me wrong, motion sensor technology is cool, but I don't think that Microsoft or Sony is going to completely drop a fanbase just because they have it.

As long as sony don't plan on ditching the dualshock and forcing us to use these wand things I'm fine to let this wiimote ripoff pass me by without so much as a sideways glance.

I've always maintained that motion-sensing controls could very well enhance the gaming experience if they were employed in a non-gimmicky way and only when necessary. If Sony wants to move in that direction, great. Make room on the bandwagon, I'm jumping in. But In the very likely circumstance that Sony, like Microsoft with their magic natal thing, just want to leech off Nintendo's cancerous casual gaming market, then I'll just do my best to ignore it and hope it doesn't detract too much from actual gaming.

All the more glad I am primarily a PC gamer. Although I prefer my controller over this motion bullshit, I've played my fair share of Wii and it's not fun. I guess I like being a lazy bastard letting my fingers and thumbs do all the work because i don't like moving around like an idiot. That and controllers are reliable and pretty much 100% responsive unlike the potential failings one can encounter with motion control.

To be honest, I doubt it'll get in the way of the consoles' main games if it becomes a fad.

There'll just be a bunch of random casual games, a few serious ones which try to utilise the sensor and either fail or work but require patches and then people'll forget about it.

Or maybe Sony and Microsoft will release a bunch of awesome games with their motion sensor controls and everyone will reslise that controllers are reduntant...

Or not.

Pretty much, I pity all of you who think this will be the downfall of gaming
Im not saying it could be the main point of any downfall, i just think it could easily screw us gamers over for favour of new audiences.

I doubt we'll be screwed over anytime soon. Casual games sell, yes that's true. But developers wouldn't throw out their loyal fan base. As long as they care about the people who play their games, we should be ok.

People really need to stop calling this a Wii-mote ripoff. IF i were nintendo i'd be shaking in my boots right now. What that "thing" did in the tech demo is more impressive then anything iv'e ever seen a wiimote do... plus or not.

I don't know it this is actually a FAD persay because it's the first time all 3 consoles to my knowledge have had something that actually works. Tendo always had something since day one..the light gun, power glove, the robot, power, pad, the snes rocketlauncher thing, virtual boy *couch >.> Either way this is bad news for nintendo tech wise. Im not saying they still wont sell a bijillion consoles.. cause they alwasy will. But they will be the first in need of a new console. Anyway if all 3 companies can infuse this thier own tech into gameplay their own ways tehn so be it. We get more variety in games. It's not like all controlelrs are going to become obsolete...lol they're just add ons.

Here's what happened
1) Nintendo said they were going to reach more gamers (casuals we call them now) with the wii.
2) They were right.
3) It turned out those people had a lot of money
4) $$$ BLING BLING BITCHES!!! $$$
5) Microsoft and Sony realized they were on to something and decide to crap out casual gamer oriented peripherals.

This will fail since the PS3 and 360 cost more than a wii. Furthermore, the market the Wii created all own Wii's. Being casual they couldn't give half a shit about graphics so what is their incentive to buy a new console? They won't, this is futile. MS and Sony should just stick with the core market which they were aiming for in the first place. You can't be the jack of all trades here.
