So it looks like the next big thing in gaming now is motion sensor controls, Nintendo have the Wii (and now Motion Plus), Microsoft have Natal, and Sony have to two wands OF DOOM! (no idea on the actual name).

Now is it me or do the 3 big companies turning away from the fanbases they have and are all jumping on the casual train. I mean all these new gadgets could enrich our gaming experiences but at the same time could cause many developers to turn towards more family friendly games. Look at the Wii and all the shovelware it has, it could happen to the other 2.

Am i the only one scared of these new innovations or do other people agree with me?
This would be really really awful, but it won't last forever. Warhammer 40.000 had this, too in the early 90's and GW dropped it because it sucked, so the companies will do it, too.

Also I really do not care, because all the console companies do not bother me as I belong to the PC-gaming master race.

Fad? I dont think so. We are beginning to see the inklings of the future of gaming. While rough right now, these new systems, in the near future, will allow for so much more immersion than we currently have. I'd rather play my character acting out the motions than by pushing buttons and joysticks. Thats not to say they will astrange current generation gamers immediately but I do see a phasing out of the traditional controler in the future, and while it may not be excluded all together, it could quite possibly become the minority of game control devices.

Can't be any worse than the WW2 game fad.

Motion controls are here to stay. Until we get a stage up from Natal/natal becomes a standard in consoles. Natal is a great step forward. Surpasses the WM+ by a lot.

We'll see how the future goes. Nintendo will have to come out with a powerhouse in their next console in order to use this sort of technology.

FPS + Motion controls + HD graphics = Pure Win.

Didn't everyone complain that RE5 lacked the kick-ass control scheme of RE4 Wii edition?

Nintendo have never called the Wii a "casual" system, their competitors have labeled it as such. The idea that motion controls = casual games has been promoted by Microsoft and Sony.

The number of crap games released by third party developers for the Wii is high; why is that? They complain their shovelware garbage doesn't sell; isn't that the opposite of what is supposed to happen? After all, all the Wii owners are just "Dumb casual gamers" who don't know any better, so shouldn't they just buy all the crap they get fed? Oh wait, they don't buy the games after all. Then the third party devs complain their garbage doesn't sell. Maybe if they put some effort into making decent Wii games people would buy them.

What you are witnessing is not the end of gaming, what you are seeing is the birth of the new generation, the first real paradigm shift in the industry since the NES came out.

Who made the NES? Oh... right.

I'd much rather have the option to avoid motion control altogether - I'm pretty much just lazy and don't want to flail around all day to play my video games when a few deft movements of my fingers can have the same effect.

... being as why my Wii is currently being used as a fashionable paperweight.

I'm not sure about the PS3, but the 360 will still have an option to use a controller the normal way. No wrist flicking or arm swinging involved, just good Ol' Fashioned buttons.

Nah, they're not jumping on the casual train. There jumping on the money train. Wii is the highest selling console, so just do what they do to make a bunch of money. Personally I think a price cut would do the job better, but I'm not the head of a major company so, whatever.

It'll be like the fad for brown apocalyptic worlds in shooters.
Yeah. That's annoying. They should make turn brown into violent pink or a powerful orange.

I don't really know what to say. Natal looks really promising for some games, though I don't think it'll be good for shooters. I mean, who would want to have sore muscles when trying to gun down imaginary enemies?
I would buy a violent pink post-apocalyptic shooter.

I think that with every step we take with motion control the closer we get to virtual reality games via plugs in the back of our heads. (yeah, like the Matrix.) Which could be a good or bad thing depending on your viewpoint. Also, Milo was scary. Awesome. But scary.

Further note: Most of the games that Nintendo has made for the Wii are the better ones. EG) Twilight Princess, Corruption, Galaxy, Brawl, etc.
