saying you want games to be made tailored for gay people as much as straight people is pretty much saying "IM GAY! NOTICE ME! RECOGNIZE ME FOR IT!". Stop shouting for attention, buddy - it ain't making you look to flash.

Disgrace or not, it's going to keep happening. why? because homosexuality ain't media friendly, and the developers get less verbal assault from 1 or 2 gay men then from the millions of soccer moms and supposed "protectors" of the children(see because baby jesus says that all videogames are for children, not for anyone over the age of 8 who can formulate an opinion). In reality, why are you angry at us? get angry at them.

Saying that gays shouldn't be in video games is like saying that they don't exist.
I would think that not letting them in games should piss you off more.

To Viper: Lets put it in a different perspective, do you also think that gays shouldn't be in movies or other media. Are you trying to hide from society?

Its not like your a completely different species, or race.

Ehhh Actually homosexuallity as wel as bisexuallity is pretty common now is sandbox games. Fable, Dragonage, etc mostly by lionhead and bioware but thats alright. It's a good start, we cannot believe that great bigotry will disapear over night even though we want it to!

I call troll.

I know this is a troll, but I think if you want to be accepted, if you want to fit in, stop making a song and dance about it.
You make yourself stand out more if you purposely act out just because of your sexuality.
There's a guy at my school who's like, "I'm gay! I have a boyfriend, you know! I'm gay yeah? gay!"
It really irks me. >_<

Not say it's your fault what I'm say is that if you start a topic you know will be controversial the way you did and respond to people in an insulting manner when they don't agree with your views you are going to be labeled as baiting people. If you would respond to peoples points with valid points of your own then a discussion starts and people are happy.

@EmileeElectro
I agree, people make too much of a big deal out of things, frankly most people who are gay or bi nobody notices unless they make a deal out of it which is when they are more likely to be bothered about it.

@v and what would you define as seeming gay? Sterotypes are just that sterotypes. Note: he could also just be a troll being a twit but I like to think the best of people.

Well I'm not against gays or anything but I dont think that would actually change the game if they made the main character gay. It wouldn't do much to affect gameplay and for all we know half of the protagonists in games could be gay.

PS:It seems a little innappropriate for the creater of an open discussion to be posting "Fuck you!" and getting angry at people for not posting what you wanted to hear on this thread.

This is hilarious. I can't think of a better way to look like an idiot than to create a thread asking why homosexuality isn't as equally represented as heterosexuality in video games and then abuse people for answering.

It's not like there are all that many games where characters get an opportunity to prove their sexuality, either straight or gay. Most just shoot around and don't do much.

I presume you don't just want more characters who just "act very gay" or are extremely camp as that is not the same thing as gay.

And another think you HAVE to consider is that while homosexuality is perfectly fine and there should be no shrinking away from the depiction of it, there is still the simple fact that homosexuality is a minority orientation. Only 8-12% of (males at least) are are actually gay so why should we ask that homosexual and heterosexual relationships are depicted equally or anything close to that?

I mean GTA, it even fills it's gay-depiction quota where you have to go on a blind date with Gay-Tom, which at least introduces the audience to how "yeah, gay people do exist". Though you only go on the date to murder the guy, Niko murders everyone so it's equal opportunity brutality.

And the lack of homosexuality in military games like Halo... Hello? MILITARY! Professional misconduct? You can't be chatting up fellow soldiers regardless of orientation, I mean so often one of them outranks the other, it's tantamount to rape or at the very least undermines authority. This goes doubly so for hetero relationships as there are plenty of women in these military forces too.

My troll sensor is going off like crazy but I'd like to weigh in regardless.

I've only very recently come to terms with the fact that I'm gay (well, a 4 on the Kinsey scale, I'd say. Predominantly homosexual, but more than incidentally heterosexual). Homos aren't equally represented in video games for the simple fact that 50% of all men aren't gay.
And I'm sure I'm not the only one that places my face firmly in the palm of my hand when I see an extremely flamboyant, lisping stereotype walk in to a game scenario and expect to be taken as anything other than the comic relief.

Gays in games are fine. Games are a narrative. Not every story needs a marmite miner.
