So, I'm now the extremely proud owner of a Dreamcast (It was my first ever console back in the day, so it's pretty nostalgic). So far I've managed to track down a copy of Shenmue 1 + 2 and Soul Reaver but I'd love some recommendations for good games I need to look for.

Basically: what were the best games you ever played on the dreamcast?

I didn't have much of a collection for my Dreamcast, but Soul Calibur and Phantasy Star Online were my clear favourites. You might not get much out of the latter with the online mode being unavailable though (there's a PC version with an unofficial server still going if you wanted to try it out properly).

I enjoyed Powerstone a lot. It's like Smash Brothers, only with original characters.

I played the Dreamcast in a blockbuster rental store once.

Sorry, just seemed that information, despite being Dreamcast related, was rather random

There aren't very many games I can think of that can't be gotten on other systems.

Skies of Arcadia (although there's a Gamecube port with updated graphics)
Power Stone
Grandia 2 (also on ps2)
Gun Lord
Space Channel 5
Ecco The Dolphin
Sonic Adventure 1 and 2

Poor Dreamcast,
I suppose that's the disadvantage of an early death.

If you can get a light gun or two House of the Dead 2, great 2 person co-op

If you like gundam games Gundam Side Story 0079: Rise From the Ashes, a really good gundam game and mech 1st person shooter

Beyond those two everyone else who posted named the ones I owned.

...where did you get a Dreamcast? I've been looking for one for a couple months now and I refuse to use Amazon or Ebay because I don't want something that isn't actually a Dreamcast. (by that I mean that I distrust them since the Dreamcast is rather old, so I assume they'd send me something that emulates a Dreamcast)

SC5 is crazy silly, do it up. There's also Seaman...which was terribly frightening as a child.

Chu Chu Rocket and Pen Pen and Sonic Adventure.

Pen Pen may not look like much, but damn it is such good random fun!

I miss having a dreamcast :( My old dog kept walking into the controller cables and the dreamcast always fell to the floor.

I know it sounds lame for non sports fans, but the football, basketball, and tennis games were choice. I highly recommend Virtua Tennis and the 2K series.

Yeah but you cant play it now can you? as it was online only.

Anyway for my vote I would go with Soul Calibur its the only reason I bought a Dreamcast and I was not dissapointed the best 3D fighter ever in my opinion and yes I have played a hell of a lot of them.

Gundam Side Story is probably the best Mech Game I've played. Not that I've played many but it's good to see someone else suggesting that title.

I forget the name of it but my friends & I played a Star Wars themed Twisted Metalish type game a hell of a lot but the single player portion probably wasn't very good; no memories of that.

It's been a long time and I don't think I ever played it online. I think I just played the single player challenge maps and made my own for my friends to play.
