inFamous 1 & 2 - Personally my favorite super hero games of all time and the main reason to own a PS3 in terms of exclusives.

Uncharted 2 is a great action experience as well. You can typically pick that one up bundled with the original which you might as well do so you have a clearer understanding of the story.

Resistance: Fall of Man - An excellent FPS. I'd avoid Resistance 2 which is terrible and I've never played number 3 because of that.

am i the only one finding it ironic alot of people are saying to get HD versions of the same games that were out for ps2? (do NOT think im starting a flame war, i have a ps3, 360 and a wii and think theyre all equaly awesome) OT. id go for infamous, infamous 2, the uncharted games, the resistance series, i wouldnt recomend killzone but you might like it and MGS4, and if you havnt played the previous games, download 1 from the PSN and then get the MGS HD collection...im such a hypocryte xD hope you enjoy the console!

I would say Resistance 3 is the best of the 3. Most under played game for the PS3 if you ask me. I was going to say under rated but it's really not an 8-9 is the average score it's just no one bought it.

Purely because he's really cute and I enjoyed playing the first one.

Everything I was going to suggest has already been mentioned but it was an excuse to post a cute picture.

Valkyria Chronicles is the only must have exclusive I can think of but its worth buying a PS3 just for that game IMO.

Uncharted 2 and 3 were fun thinking about it even though they are quite samey but its probably best to ignore the first Uncharted.

Given that Sony dictates you give up your legal rights in order to access the PSN (or whatever they call it now) including for mandatory software required game updates to be able to play games youve purchased (some) and all the other sphinctery behavior Sony has engaged in recently I say take it back.

However I doubt that will deter, so I guess demons Souls (lol like multiplayer is a relevant factor) and fat princess should do. Honestly for me personally Demon's Souls was enough to get me to buy the console.... twice.

Demon's Souls and Valkyria Chronicles.

Two great games.
Demons souls is a bad call unless he can complete it before the end of may, which is when the servers shut down.
Or he can, you know, still play it in single player. I've done it many times - actually to manipulate WT it's best to go offline...
Thought it was an online only game, never played it to be honest.

Like Yahtzee said "if a games best feature is it's hard, it's not much of a feature. Leave bread out long enough and that goes hard, doesn't make it better".

I'd recommend God of War III if you can pick it up for a reasonably low price.

Katamari Forever is awesome if you've never played the series before.

Also, I'd recommend you skip Resistance 1 & 2 as they have severe balance issues and go straight to the third instalment since there's hardly any story there to miss out on.

Oh, the Ratchet and Clank games (aside from that All4One bullshit) are good too. Not as good as the PS2 ones, but still a lot of fun.
You should add the Jak and Daxter HD collection too.

and yet my copy of Skyrim has only bugged out once on me. But really..basing a decision on console of 2 games that are arguably not worth buying a console for anyways?

OT: get these games
1.Infamous
2.the ico and shadow of the collosus collection
3. the sly collection
4. the jak and daxter collection
5. red dead redemption
6. Legendary (in my opinion a hugely underrated and overly criticized game)

Edit: and 7. Infamous 2
I'm not saying there's anything inherently wrong with the system. But I have a PS2, and I can play all those collections whenever I want without having to buy a PS3, and RDR was on 360. Infamous is kind of neat, but I don't really go for the "big sandbox to cause mayhem" kind of games. And the problem with the PS3 Skyrim is that the game never stops rendering things when you get far enough away from it. Once you start playing for a certain amount of time, the game turns into a slideshow because the game is rendering every where you've been during your play session. That's pretty broken if you ask me.

Except since the last several patches it hasnt happened to anyone as far as threads and accounts go from what i have heard. Certainly hasnt for me. On the account of the collections: my ps2 had already broken so i had to sell off most of my games, i aqquired a ps3 for christmas that year and thus when the collections started to come out it was a done deal. and even if i still had a ps2..shadow of the colossus and ico cost 40 dollars on their own but the hd collection costs 40 for both (gamestop prices of course). But my point still stands their are a lot of good games on the ps3 and if you DONT happen to have a working ps2 those collections on the ps3 are a good alternative but this is moot as the suggestions were there for the OP not for my argument against you just fyi in case you didnt know.

Yeah, Yahtzee did not do any favours to gamers when he reviewed Demon's Souls. His review was pretty awful. Then again, he is a comedian and his word should be taken with a grain of salt.

Thankfully, Demon's Souls best features include control, combat, flexibility and some truly memorable boss fights. It's hard yes, but it's also fair and with practice, anyone can win.

Actually he's more of a critic and a comedian. his reviews should be taken with a grain of salt but he also over analyses every detail to the extreme to point out flaws in an over the top way.

From personal experience with my PS3 I can recommend Infamous 1 and 2 strongly, they're both really solid games. Also MGS4 is good, but fair warning, the cutscenes are long and I think you should play it without getting seen to get the most out of it. Also Kz2 and Kz3 are pretty good (IMO the multiplayer in Kz2 was better). I also heard the uncharted games are good, but I haven't played them personally so I can't say. Oh and Little Big Planet. Game is pretty fun and the game of the year edition is probably like $10 now.

I'd recommend getting Journey. It's PS3-exclusive, and an excellent game. You may not like it, but then it's cheap.

Recently I've seen a bunch of 13-year old boys play it (one cousin and his friends). At first I didn't think they would like it, it's slower paced and has none of the action and intense gameplay these pre-teen boys seem to like. They didn't even think they would like it, they thought the game's premise was weird. All of them loved it, and one or two thought it was the best game they've ever played.

So while I've seen some people here on the Escapist saying it's "just a pretentious artsy game" or something like this, I think it's worth a try. You may like it. Even if you don't, it's a unique experience you probably won't get with other games.

Resistance, Ratchet and Clank: Future series (you can skip All 4 one if you want to), Infamous, Twisted Metal, Sly Collection, Uncharted series, Killzone's worth a try.

I have to say my family LOVES the PS3. In fact, my old PS3 just bricked after 5 years of service in the name of entertainment, and my mom bought another on the spot online. So, it is probably the system to have for a multipurpose system, and the 3D feature is worth a try especially with the blu-ray movies.

I'll recommend Little Big Planet 2. I found it charming and imaginative.

Gonna say the same thing that I said last time someone said they bought a PS3

I'm sorry to hear that.

Just seems like the system gets passed up a lot these days. I'm sure the people that have them love them, but I would never trade my Xbox for one.
