Ah then I'll definately check it out, is it safe starting at Persona 4 Golden?
Well, Persona 4: Golden is easiest to get into, but I'm just afraid that it's TOO easy to get into. You just might not be able to cope with Persona 3 after that. And you should try BOTH games, for they are equally brilliant in different ways.
So I'm not gonna end up hopelessly lost starting at the 4th game? Or is it one of those things where each sequel stands alone?

Yeah, the stories aren't directly connected, though there are small references and call-backs to earlier games.

I could do with something like Mega Man X, is Maverick Hunter for the PSP any good?
I don't know. D: Never played it, I'm not a huge fan of Mega Man.

Will check it out then.

And darn, I'll look for some stuff around the net on it. I quite like Mega Man but Capcom doesn't seem to care.

Edit: It's a remake of the original Mega Man X with 3D graphics... Onto the list it goes...

There are a shitton of references to Persona 3 in P4 (not played golden) but otherwise you're fine. The only characters in both are Igor and a few of the social links from P3, which don't really matter anyway. But I'll back up what was said- if you start with Persona 4 you're going to find Persona 3 harder to play- (it lacks a lot of the features and is a wee bit harder)- even the PSP version, so consider that.

It wouldnt be the first time I played a more feature rich and easier title first then went back to the simpler, harder prequels. Infact that's most of my experience with a lot of more long running series.

Then by all means, start with Persona 4. They're of similar quality overall anyway, although fans of either game tend to get into hot debates about which is better.

Get Muramasa Rebirth. It's a fun platformer/hack and slash/RPG and it looks gorgeous. Plus, it has a better translation than the Wii version did.

Gravity Rush is a great, fairly unique game.

Virtue's Last Reward is pretty enjoyable, but it's a sequel to Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors on the DS, so I'd only recommend it if you've played the first one.

I'd also recommend you get Kenka Bancho: Badass Rumble off the PSN. It's a PSP game, but I think it plays much better with the Vita's screen and analog stick.

There's a new Ys game coming out for it later this year, too, and those are always worth playing.

A fairly self explanatory topic. I just semi-impulse bought a PS Vita and so far I really like it, I havea few PSOne titles on it though I have a l ot of those anyway, aswell as Uncharted and Rayman Origins from PS+. I know Unit 13 is coming to PS+ next month and thats pretty fun from the demo, there's also Ninja Gaiden but I don't know if that's any good.

I have PS+ and a 32GB card coming, so I'm looking for recommendations of Vita games and PSP titles too, maybe even some more obscure PS1 games (I have the RE's, Silent Hill, Medevil, Crash 1-3, CTR, Spyro 1-3, Rayman 2, Pandemonium!, etc).

So, recommendations?

Oh and don't make this a Vita vs 3DS thread. I have both, I like my 3DS a bunch but I'm a grown up so I can has them all. The Vita feels better built anyway, just saying, it lacks the loose creaky backplate of the 3DS XL...
Symphony of the Night
Awesome game. I still play it every now and again when i want to dump 20 or so hours into a decent game.

Dissidia
Also a very good fighting game. Good combat, decent leveling system. Maxed out 4 characters on it, and people say my Emperor is frustratingly amazing.

Mortal Kombat
The Vita version is good, comes with all the DLC, and runs at 60FPS. Granted the graphics aren't amazing, but the game is massive and has alot going for it.

The sequel stands alone but it's in the same universe - different location and 2 years later. You do go back to the city from Persona 3 and meet characters, visit places and do things that, almost like going back to Rapture in Bioshock Infinite in that playing the one before it puts things in perspective and holds more meaning. I suggest playing Persona 3 Portable so you at least have Persona 4's battle mechanics, like party member control and the ability for them to defend you from OHKOs and the welcome addition of a "Defend" option in the battle menu.

Not coming to EU so far as I'm aware, no date and no publisher.

I played the hell out of Mortal Kombat on the PS3 already, if I see it on sale or PS+ I'll grab it though I enjoyed it a lot.

I've been playing Castlevania: Symphony of the Night since it was finally reduced to a reasonable price for the EU PS store, I loves me some classic Castlevania. What I'd give for them to go back to some metroidvania or even good old sidescrolling.

No, no, no, you can start playing in whichever order you like. You don't need to play P3 to understand P4 and Vice Versa. Although, I would recommend starting with 3 because (!IMHO!) it is, while being good (really good) game, a lot worse then P4 in every aspect (well, maybe exept for music). It will be a lot harder to enjoy P3, if you have to compare it with the experience you had with P4.

Oh, and I'll mention a few things that weren't said by previous posters:
1. Date sim elements and your combat efficiency are connected. In short, you use Pesonas (spirits, monsters, deities) to fight. You can mix them to create new ones. Each one represents one of the major tarot arcanas (magician, emperor, priestess...). When you spend time and strengthen (sorry, can't find better word) your relatonship with people, you'll gain an exp boost during Persona creation (i.e. they'll jump a few levels).

2. If you max out a social link (i.e. had all the possible meetings with a person) you'll gain access to the strongest persona of his/her arcana (Odin for Emperor, for example).

3. Each one has a new game+ mode, so on your first playthrough spend more time boosting your stats (knowledge, athletics...) because they will help you speed up your S.Link progress. And during second playthrough, go for maxing out all S.Links.

4. Both games have a good/true ending. 3rd one is pretty easy to get. I won't spoil anything for you about P4, but remember this:

Wait a moment
We are missing something
True feelings
We are missing something
Calm down.

The best part of being a grown up: you can buy all the toys you want

Ironically, I have a lot of games on my vita but not enough time on my hands to have played them all. I'm going out on a limb and assuming Persona 4: Golden has been recommend in every post so I'd recommend Persona 3: Portable, the psp version of Persona 3. Also Gravity Rush, but I assume you already got that off ps+. And I recommend Playstation All Stars, I find the vita version more fun than the console version (but if you buy the ps3 version, physical or download, you get both versions and ps+ syncs your data).

If Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops and/or Portable Ops+ for psp has been added to the store buy the shit out of it/them. I spent an entire summer on those games but the online is prolly dead by now. For ps1 titles I'd also recommend Grandia and any of the Blood Omen games. Also, Thomas was Alone and Limbo if you haven't played them yet or just want to be able to play them while pooping on a beutiful OLED screen. And I recommend Machinarium if you like point and click puzzle games, cute robots, and/or a good sound track

Edit: If you need anymore reasons to play Persona, just remember that it combines aspects of daily life with RPG elements. For example, in Persona 3 remembering to poop on regular basis improves your condition. Done. What more reason could you need?

Get Klonoa: door to Phantomile and Tomba from the PS1 section.
For your own sake, do it.

As for original (non ps1/2/p) games there's;
Gravity Rush, Action adventure game where you can control gravity in a 3D environment.
Sound Shapes, solid interesting platformer that will give you an experience.
Sine Mora, fun Shmup with great visuals.
Guacamelee, a platformer where you play as a mexican wrestler with dual world mechanics.
Sillent Hill Book of Memories, an Action-RPG not a horror, think diablo, really fun if you don't go in under that false assumption.
Need for Speed, it's a solid game if you're into 'em.
Soul Sacrifice, kind of like Monster hunter but really does its own thing with it.
Atelier Totori Plus, a well made JRPG where you play as Totori the incompetent alchemist as she becomes an adventurer.
Retro City Rampage, old school GTA style.
Thomas Was Alone, you'll never have a stronger emotional connection to squares.

I'll play P4G and then look into 3 if I enjoy it, but it does sound enjoyable.

I like PS All Stars a lot, I'd like to see a more refined sequel with a more diverse roster though. I need to redeem my cross-buy stuff honestly, but I'll wait until I get my 32GB card delivered next week.

The 3 indie games you recommended I shall look into them, I have them all but haven't bothered yet but since I have a vita and they fit more into what I play on handhelds I'll give them a whirl.

What are the portable ops games? If they play like Peace Walker then I won't enjoy them at all.

I've been playing Killzone: liberation and that's hella fun even though it's hard as nails. I also plan to get Maverick Hunter X and a few of the tactics games riddling the system.

PM me your PSN and I'll add you, maybe kick your ass on all stars some time :p

OK I have to point out the irony of telling readers to not make this a Vita vs 3DS thread, and then doing EXACTLY that mere keystrokes later. lol (your point is totally valid though, I have both too)

As for the games, I've had a ton of fun with the port of MK9. Even though I did play the big console version as well, it's a great game for hopping into a few rounds. I usually play against the CPU when I have time to wait and my Vita on hand. The story mode feature from the full console release is there too, so if you haven't played it yet maybe now is a good time.

And as the rest of the entire thread has already said, Persona 4. That's pretty much required reading for this course.

I also have a special place in my heart for the Katamari games. I know they have made like a million of them and it's not terribly original. But it actually tried some interesting things with the back side touch interface. And... and it's Katamari. You most likely know if you like it by now or not. So I'll just say it delivers if you are a fan and leave it at that.

Enjoy your new Vita! PSN ID: ZZoMB13 if anyone is interested. :)

Sine Mora I do have but I find it a bit ponderous for my Shmup tastes, I like my shooters to be more constant bullets, explosions and pending death. Hence my love of Treasure's products.

Gunstar Heroes is still one of the best co-op games around!

Retro City Rampage seems cool and I'll pick it up. Definately interested in Guacamelee, as it's kinda metroidvania and that scratches an itch for me, not to mention Cross-buy only sweetens the deal. Add in Hotline Miami too... Is retro city rampage cross buy?
