Well, I bought into the offer and purchased the Deus Ex Collection for £9.99 off of Steam.

However, I've just tried to launch Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and it doesn't do anything. I'm not entirely certain what's happening, but the game just won't launch. I tried restarting Steam and trying again to launch, but still nothing happened.

Also, I launched The Missing Link DLC for the game, and it booted up fine. So my assumption is that it can't be to do with my computer settings, but I'm not entirely sure about that either.

My settings are:

Intel Core i5-2430M 2.4GHz (with Turbo Boost up to 3.0GHz)
NVidia GeForce GT 540M (1GB of VRAM and up to 4095MB TurboCache)
8GB DDR3 RAM

So, any ideas why the original game isn't working, but the Missing Link is? Leave your comments below and help me out.

Verify the game cache for a start, that is a pretty common solution. Some of the files may be corrupt.
How do you do that?
Right Click on the game > Properties > Local Files > Verify integrity...
Just tried that, all the files were validated, tried launching it, and still nothing happened.

That doesn't do anything either.

No, I'm just trying to launch it from Steam. I did the same thing with The Missing Link DLC and it worked fine.

Try deleting ClientRegistry.blob... I don't know if it will help but it's standard procedure

The game will be trying to run a first time setup thingy, am assuming you're running Vista or 7? If so, UAC may be blocking it.

Turn UAC off, then boot steam and launch HR.

If that doesn't work, try turnin off your virus protection as well.

In the nicest possible way.

What's the error code you get? Try re-downloading it if it doesn't work.

or, navigate to the game file and run as an admin?

1. Go here on your PC.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\deus ex - human revolution

2. Delete the files "steamapi.dll" and "dxhr.exe"

3. Verify game cache. It will re-download those files.

4. Tell me if it works/doesn't work.

Edit: As a side note.
I had that same problem when I tried to play it. It took me less than 5 minutes to google it, read a thread, and fix it myself.

If the game has been out more than a couple of months, chances are the problem you are experiencing has been found, and solved by other people a dozen times before.

GOOGLE IT!

You will always get a better result, sooner.

Also use the Steam User's Forums. They will usually be 10x more helpful than these ones.

Actually I was having quite a few problems with the steam client a while back and the steam forums and support staff were sort of unhelpful. They kept asking questions I had already answered and giving suggestions I had already listed as having been tried.

Well, I'll try again later and see if it works. It just seems weird that the DLC works fine, but the original game doesn't.

Delete system 32 /trollface

OT:Well, I would of suggested verifying the game cache, but that's already been said. I would just suggest googling it, or looking through the steam forums for Human Revolution. That always seems to come up with a solution. Or just try deleting all the files, and I do mean ALL the files then downloading it again. Other than that, I dunno.

Ok, I've looked around on the Steam forums, and I found a user that says that he had the same issue (this was back in November 2011. There was another one from 4 days ago, but the responses to it seem to have stopped). The user says the following:

"Ok, I fiddled around with files and whatever. Now after the validation one was reacquired (yes, with the same files that were successfully validated before - it looks like it reacquired the exe, but it does not make sense since that one works in Windows 7 as I copied it back to XP!) and now it runs.

So my suggestion: Delete the exe file and the steamapi.dll and validate the cache"

Not sure if that will work. I think I'll simply try un-installing and then re-installing the game, then validating the cache first of all, and if that doesn't work, I may try resorting to the method that this user explains.

Why would you bother looking for a solution if you were just going to ignore it anyway?

And why would you bother asking for help if you were going to ignore the majority of the responses?
