FUCK YEAH MOTHERFUCKERS! Came out of the cinema with a stupid grin on my face. That elated high feeling that I've ONLY ever gotten out of a cinema with Nolan films.
First great film of 2011.

I went with high expectations, hearing BLACK HAWK DOWN and hoping for a great alien invasion movie set in USA, since INDEPENDANCE DAY. This blew away all my expectations. Other than Aaron Eckhart, there aren't any big names associated to the project. Never heard of the director, writer, producers.

I've been so disillusioned with action movies recently. And then this movie hits all the right spots by giving depth to everything. This is BLACK HAWK DOWN in LA, with mechanical aliens. And no misanthropic pretentious wankery you get from other alien, monster, or disaster movies.

I do enjoy reading film reviews and i am somewhat of an Ebert fan, the film doesn't look like it will appeal to me. But by all means others should go see it if there going to enjoy themsleves.

But I can't understand comparisons with Black Hawk Down when it's a 12A rated film. It should, in theory, end up like a re-skinned Transformers!

Real war has gore. War films need gore. Gore = 15/18 age ratings. So the result is that good war films should be 15 or 18 rated.

I'm with this guy. The visceral violence and gore in Watchmen made it much more engaging to watch compared to the fights in most other films.

It looks like a good popcorn movie, if I can be bothered to get up to the cinema I might give it a watch.

I really wasn't expecting this movie to be that good, I still plan on going to watch it but now I'm a little excited...OP, you better be right.

Other than that the movie was pretty dang good. (Did you know its based off of the War of the Worlds book? How they upload a virus and in the book they all died of the air bacteria?)

I'm pretty sure they just catch a cold in War of the Worlds, and don't use a magical USB that can plug into an alien ship's main frame xD

As for the speech, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people also found it pretty patronising, and I personally thought the film around it was just dull.
