And what is it with people and Independence Day? Maybe you have to be American (I found that speech almost unbearably embarrassing).

Umm, it's plenty violent. Lots of human deaths, and goeey alien gibs. I felt it was a R rating (didn't check the rating, because I'm old enough). There's plenty of swearing. It didn't feel watered down. Very gritty.Private Custard said:I want to see it, just out of curiosity.
But I can't understand comparisons with Black Hawk Down when it's a 12A rated film. It should, in theory, end up like a re-skinned Transformers!
Real war has gore. War films need gore. Gore = 15/18 age ratings. So the result is that good war films should be 15 or 18 rated.
Bang, this pretty much sums up how I feel about this kind of movie. They need to have gore to have a proper "war" against frakking machine aliens. I for one am sick of tired of them trying to make PG-13 movies all the time.Private Custard said:I want to see it, just out of curiosity.

So did I, but only because it's an incredibly pale ripoff of the St. Crispin's Day speech from Henry V:Woodsey said:Maybe you have to be American (I found that speech almost unbearably embarrassing).
REALLY??? I havent seen it yet, it just blew my mind that this turned out well. I really didn't expect it to, but i've been thinking about it in the back of my head for the past few weeks. Hopefully it gets the recognition it deserves and dosen't turn into another "District 9" , which was a really well made alien movie with no hype. Also, I share your view of Nolan films, Inception is the only movie I've spent literally weeks thinking about, and the Dark Knight is probably the best sci-fi drama, if not the absolute best, movie everMoeez said:FUCK YEAH MOTHERFUCKERS! Came out of the cinema with a stupid grin on my face. That elated high feeling that I've ONLY ever gotten out of a cinema with Nolan films.
First great film of 2011.
I've been so disillusioned with action movies recently. And then this movie hits all the right spots by giving depth to everything. This is BLACK HAWK DOWN in LA, with mechanical aliens. And no misanthropic pretentious wankery you get from other alien, monster, or disaster movies.
The sarcasm is strong in this one.PowerC said:REALLY??? I havent seen it yet, it just blew my mind that this turned out well. Oh, I thought you were being sarcastic. Your post just seemed too satirical to be true.powerC said:Why, I wasn't being sarcastic? is my naivete acting up again?
Actually, they did. Aaron Eckhart mentioned that in interviews, the whole cast went to boot camp for 3 weeks. They lived that kind of life, Big Brother style. Eckhart was corrected at many stages for their dialogue, like saying "chopper" instead of "helo".BulletBoom said:I doubt very much that they had any kind of military expert as a consultant during production. The dialogue and the action scenes are just wrong.
