I got it, and I love it. Terrible voice acting is hilarious to listen to, and the story is horrendous. But some of the most rewarding exploration and creative sandbox gameplay I've ever enjoyed, I highly recommend it. Yes, it is repetitive, but all sandbox games are, this one is no worse in my opinion, besides with the absolutely massive area, and multitude of travel arrangements, I've been quite pleased with it. Not perfect, but a damn silly ride.

Now hold up: though the demo may have been absolutely incredible, from what I've heard, the full game is extremely repetitive, essentially forcing you to complete the same missions in very similar areas over and over again.

Of course, I've yet to play the full game, so I can't back this up, but if these rumors are true, I'm afraid that all of the potential of the demo is lost, sorry to say.
Well, having played through all of the GTA games, aren't they also, in a way, repetetive?
Kill X steal Y and escape from Z...
Pretty much throughout the series.
It's not exactly a complaint, but most sandbox games are judged by the features outside of the missions...
You don't really see as many gamers judging games by their story or missions on the same level as features, graphics, and content...
Some people do, but most don't...
That's actually a very good point; I hadn't thought of it like that. Of course, I'm not much of a sandbox gamer, so I can't really say I have much to back that up on, but I'll take your word for it.

However, from what I've heard, the environments don't change much between location, making it less fun to explore. I'm just saying, you might want to rent it to make sure the full game holds up. I'll be doing that myself, because the demo is pretty kickass.
That's why I'm going to go test it out over at a friend's house.
He's already bought it, having given in to the hype, and I want to see if it's going to be worth my money...
As for the environments, well I've looked at some screenshots and there seem to be a lot of different ones...
I can't be too sure, but it looks like the island is pretty large, filled with hundreds of toys, and has a lot of different settings to go nuts in...
Having sunk over fifteen hours into the game, I can safely assure you that there are quite a few very interesting and differing locales to destroy. Snow, Jungle, Desert, Islands, Urban, Small Villages, Military Bases, massive mountains, it's been a blast so far.

GTA IV was mediocre. There was no sense of accomplishment or power. You kept running errands for everyone else, but never gained any true power yourself. The driving was wonky, the gun combat was slow and clunky, and the graphics were......gray. Rockstar seemed to think they could get away with releasing a mediocre game as long as they slapped the GTA name on it. I played it, and beat it, but it felt more like I was forcing myself because there was no real advancement or reward for finishing the missions.

San Andreas at least felt like you were making some impact on the city.

Saints Row 2 was by far more fun to play than GTA IV. It reminded me of playing through San Andreas. It was actually FUN, a concept lost on some of these games.

And I have to admit, Just Cause 2 sounds like it could be a blast.

Perhaps I've been misinformed. Well, I'll be sure to at least give it a try then. Thanks for renewing my interest in it!
You guys are admirable.

That could so easily have become a heated opinion flame war. You two handled each other opinion with respect and open mindedness. You're kickin' arse and taking names!

Internet Cookies for the BOTH of you!

:D

Right on.

Hello. My name is Saints Row 2 and I am superior to all you serious business sandbox games
You're also serious about having my car, and every other vehicle in the region, disappear if I so much as think about glancing in the other direction. That killllllled my enjoyment of the game for some reason..

Saints Row 2 did an okay job, but it was a little too over-the-top. While that isn't a bad thing, I still want to be able to do...Plausable things...

Just Cause 2.
Now, so far I've only played the demo, so I might not know what I'm saying.
But.
It's fucking amazing!
If you REALLY want plausibility, you're in the wrong game.

But yes, the demo is incredibly good, and I fully intend to buy the game.

Move over, because Just Cause 2 is even less serious than you.

Demo, you say . . .

I've been regarding Just Cause 2 with cautious interest for the last few days (looks nice but heard some bad things about Just Cause). Of course, I completely failed to consider the possibility that there might be a demo out, because I am a pillock. Will check it out tomorrow. Thanks :D

Also, I agree that GTA IV was a big bucket of spunk.
This is one of the few games that improves upon the sequel immensely. The grappling hook is useful now.

I got this game and hoooooollllyyyy crap I am am having waaaay too much fun with this. I will admit that yes, the vehicle controls are a little dicey when you first start playing and yes, the voice acting is insanely cornball... but you know - I really don't give a damn about that. So long as you go into the game realizing that you're playing a game for the sole purpose to just kick back and just screw around, (i.e., being able to tether enemy guards to the back of a moped and drag them to their deaths, walk into enemy compounds wielding a gatling gun, parachuting UP hills, blowing out the tires of pursuers and watching their ride tumble ass over kettle, so on and so on), you're gonna love it. Now say, you need a game that allows expansive character development and tugs at your heartstrings, then y'best look elsewhere, Chief.

Thumbs up for the recommendation. Going into a game to screw around is usually my ONLY purpose. Definitely renting it at least now.

I am one of those who thought that GTA4 was pretty bad. It was fun for a while, but compared to San Andreas, it was a total let down.
You were right, Furb. We must be total reverses (probably screwed the spelling up) of each other.
I loved GTA IV (completed 3 times) and really found nothing special in San Andreas. Also.

I'm going to get the new one, when I get a chance to get Windows 7. It's stupid that it requires it though.
I still don't understand why there is no fan outrage about this because it seems to me a far greater crime than removing the dedicated servers (No, I won't shut up about MW2).
OT: No, it's not the new GTA. Neither is Saints Row 2. It's just a very good sandbox game, that's all.

I have the game and it's insane.

I've spent 5 hours just messing around and completing settlements and I feel like I haven't even scratched the surface. The world is huge and the stunts/vehicles are insane.

JC2 is easily the most fun I've had in a sandbox game. It may not have the best voice acing, but who cares, because it's ludicrously fun. Also, who said it requires Windows 7? I'm running it fine on max settings on Vista 64-bit with my 260 GTX.

I have the full game, and within 3 minutes of pressing "new game" you're skydiving onto a dead guy before he hits the ground to steal his things, while the military are shooting flak cannons at you.

It's awesome.
