I spared Loghain hoping Bioware might find a way to make him sympathetic, but he actually proved to me he was even more of an idiot than when I had him as main antagonist

That doesn't always work incase they have one of those temptations that they have to click things...like me:p But I don't mind since it's always my fault.

What choices did you all make? I made choices which would be deemed as good I guess

Who killed the arch demon? I killed it, I don't know how though, I was hitting it with the Balista while Alistair was tanking the mobs(Shale and Morrigan died on my during the second phase) then when Alistair killed it , it showed on the cutscene me killing it( A fucking awesome cutscene I must say.

Did anyone have the baby with Morrigan? Yes I done the dirty deed, although I had done it before in the camp after I killed Flemeth

Any parts you felt were weak? When I was going through all the Origins, the Dwarf Noble one made me feel weak wear I couldn't do anything to stop him betraying me or convincing people I am right(which I had been doing through my playthrough)

yea you're right, I forgot about the Warden set as well. But does anyone disagree that having 3 different sets of armor that are decent in a 50 hour game is a little pathetic? I'm currently level 12 or 13 on my 2nd character and I still haven't seen a single usable ring for a Rogue. I mean... seriously BioWare? I love you, but get it together.
Harvest Festival Ring is found on shade during the Honnleath quest for Shale. Actually, most of the best gear comes from the DLC quests. Starfang, Warden Commander's set (Warden's Keep), Helm of Honnleath and Harvest Festival Ring and Cadash Stompers (Stone Prisoner) are all awesome. However, I always make sure to buy the Andruil's Blessing belt from the Mage Tower and the Lifegiver ring from the dwarven crystal dealer. Both are absolutely awesome accessories.

Ring of the Warrior is found in the Deep Roads somewhere, and there are some great hats for rogues, whether playing archer or stabber. You just have to know where to look. I liked the Blood Dragon set, but I much preferred sets like the Legion or the Juggernaut sets for bonuses.

I've gone through it three times so far. I've had Alistair, the baby and myself take the final blow, and I like the ending where you take it yourself. Of course it helps that I was a casteless dwarf, that made the ending so much better.

Fourth (and final, damn you Mass Effect 2) playthrough will be a female elf rogue using backstabs and stealth, loving Zevran and getting Logain to deliver the final blow. Can't wait!

Story = Generic (Really, really generic)
Combat = Generic (But entertaining enough. Nothing new added.)
Characters = Passable. They range from Emo-Alistair to Psychopath-Morrigan.
Length = Disappointment. RPGs should be longer than 40 hours having done all of the side quests.
Difficulty = Erratic (Occasional spikes that made me question game balancing)

My overall score = 8/10

Not sure what all the fuss is about. If all Bioware games are like this one, then they are mediocre at best. Yes this is my first Bioware game. Been playing RPGs though since about 1988.

Been playing Demon's Souls at the same time and that may have skewed the results. Demon's Souls is just sooo good.
(Demon's Souls = 9.5/10)
Granted all Bioware games are more or less similar variations with different coatings, but when you say you've been playing RPGs since 1988, are you talking about western RPGs or JRPGs? If you are talking about JRPGs, then I believe your ratings would be based on previous experience with those games which are completely different from Bioware's style

I'm not trying to bash your opinion, but I don't really get why this is such a big complaint. Yes the story used many tropes but that's not really a problem. BioWare's writers know exactly how to utilize each trope to it's fullest potential. Plus it was less about giving a unique story and more about letting the player have a heavy influence upon this story. I'm perfectly willing to listen to a generic story when I get to be a major player in it.

Though you have apparently been playing RPGs since 1988, so I can understand why a player like you would find a generic story to be more irritating.

I killed that bastard gloriously!

And then Morrigans baby absorbed it.

I'm currently in pursuit of her.

The Sloth demon was bullshit, but the game was pretty good otherwise.
I mean, c'mon, you fall asleep to a common demon when you kill goddamn High Dragons?
Stupid.

First of all, the nomenclature JRPG and WRPG is retarded and I refuse to use them. Second, I've played RPGs since 1988 (no distinction between those made in East or West, play them both, enjoy them both). I tend not to like MMORPGs. Third, Demon's Souls is more in line with the perceived precious "WRPG" style many here seem to go on about, so explain?
All right, a couple points:
1: I would like to know some reasoning as to why the nomenclature is "retarded." (Some argument rather than biased statement imposed as truth would be nice...)
2: I'm glad you've played a broad range of games. Well versed people make me happy and opinions can certainly differ.
3: JRPGs and WRPGs are different.
A: The storylines that you so find lacking I will grant is generic tripe. It does revolve around bad beings from a long time ago appear, kill all but the last hope to defeat them, and it is your job to find a way to stop them. That is used in almost all fantasy stories and games since forever, but that's what most action stories boil down to.
B:I: The diffenece between a Japanese (or other Asian inspired) RPG and a Western (or any other predominately white country)RPG is the focus on type of character development (speaking of story structure). In most JRPGs there is little personal input on character development. In WRPGs, there is a larger emphasis on a player's input on character development.
B:II: What this means is that, in the context of the story, the player decides where the story leads as dictated by the choices his/her game avatar makes (avatar meaning Player-controlled-character). I use this distinction to differentiate JRPGs and WRPGs, regardless of point of origin/production.
4: RPG does not truly stand for "Role-playing-game." I may be shouted down for taking this too literally, but I believe that a role playing game should be more than deciding what stat gets boosted or what armor your character should wear. A true RPG has you playing a ROLE. As such, I believe other games, such as Demon's Souls, or even Darksiders/God of War/Borderlands (games that are defined as RPGs simply because they have a game mechanic of leveling/improving characters) should not be considered so.
5: If you wish to discuss this further I would love to, but we should probably make a new thread for that. PM me with the new thread and we can continue this talk.

And now for the OT: My favorite moment from the game would have to be convincing Alistar to marry. Just the look of helplessness and the inflections by his voice actor were priceless! (God, that makes me sound horrible, doesn't it?)

Heh Seems I'm the only one that had Annora take the throne by herself. Alistair didn't seem to want to be king (and I'm not sure he would have been a good one anyway given his indecisiveness) and Annora didn't want to marry him after I gave him the chance to kill Loghain.

Other than that, I as a male Dalish elf rogue/ranger/duelist:
- saved the Dalish (as I was a Dalish myself, it only made sense though they did a very good job of making the werewolves likable)
- saved the Magi
- made Harrowmont King of Orz (too bad for the ending though.. the king's last remaining son is so hate-worthy, though he really did play the game of Dwarven politics the best)
- destroyed the Anvil
- saved the urn and the Arl, but let the Arlessa sacrifice herself so the demon could be killed
- romanced Morrigan fairly easily as my character ended up not really being a total straight edged good guy, more of a good guy with an edge (as seems fitting given the history Elves have the DA lore)
- had the baby with Morrigan and swore to find her, leaving Alistair to rebuild the Wardens (I, obviously, took the killing blow on the Archdemon)

As for difficulty, I found the ambush style fights more difficult than any of the Dragons or The Broodmother. The Circle Tower was a pain, and I also had a hard time with the Branka fight. She was powerful enough but those Golems she had with her just made it even worse. For the dragons, I basically attacked from a distance with Morrigan using spells and Leliana and I using bows. Alistair went up close alone with the Yusaris and a Tactic to heal himself. Worked wonders, and pretty much worked with the BroodMother too though for her I pealed off myself and took out the adds when they showed up.

Now I'm working through Play #2 as a female dwarven noble. I'm aiming to romance Leliana and have Alistair become king alongside Annora. I haven't really decided on many choice other than those, though I'll likely save flip flop a few times to snag a few more achievements before going with a storyline I prefer.

I'm on my third character now, which character do you want?

My first character was a Male Dalish Elf Rogue (Ranger/Duelist Spec) who specialises in Archery:

He killed the Arl's son, voted Harrowmont in to power, spared the Werewolves and killed the Elf leader (not the elves themselves) and saved the Mage's tower. He also performed the ritual with Morrigan as she was his romance.

Next I made a Female City Elf Warrior (Champion/Templar Spec) who specialises Duel Wielding:

She saved the Arl's son by projecting Wynne into the fade using the Mages from the Mage's tower, voted Harrowmont in to power, spared the Werewolves and killed the Elf leader (not the elves themselves) and saved the Mage's tower. She was attempting to sacrifice herself but her romance character, Alistair, decided to sacrifice himself instead.

I'm currently playing a Male Human Mage (Shapeshifter/Arcane Warrior Spec - purely for roleplay purposes) who specialises in Primal Magic. I haven't done much with him, I got 2 of the armies so far.

It would seem you love this game the same way I love Oblivion... three playthroughs already!

Hell yeah I had the baby with Morrigan, I mean some girl comes up to you and says "So you wanna do it?" What would you say?

No but seriously, I had grown attached to my character and I didn't want him or anyone else dieing so I did what I thought was best.
Well there also the "you could unleash ancient evil" part but hey thank god the game say there a possiblity that its just slander by the game local church

But then again that child will be raise by morrigan
Good point but still. If anything happens I'm pretty sure my dude, who happens to still be alive by the way, can handle anything that happens.

You can make a deal with the desire demon when you enter the fade to become a Blood Mage, and everything still goes good I think.

Anyone hear about a patch yet? This was the first time DLC went bad on me (Return to Ostagar).

Attack the archdemon until it moves from the center to one of the other platforms. The beast will summon darkspawn so use whatever armies you have that has the highest soldier count (perferably all 50). Move to the closest ballista that the archdemon is near and just keep shooting. When it's health drops again (to 50%), it will move to another area. You can't use melee attacks so just get to the closest ballista to the archdemon and keeping hiting it, even if it gets REALLY boring and you think the hits aren't working, keep at it. When it's health drops a final time (to 25%) it will move to another area. You can either move to another ballista or just take whatever NPC that hasn't died and attack the dragon until it finally dies. Still having problems? If you're a Tank, play the fight as a Rogue or Mage. Your low armor will draw less fodder from the darkspawn. If you want to change your NPC's statics, depending on how well you developed those character's abilities, give them (or take away) health potions so you can use them on yourself. Doesn't matter if Alistair or Loghan die (or that you die), just as long as one party member kills the archdemon, a cutscene will occur and you will win the game.

I played through as a Female rogue, determined to have a romance with Zev. But I too found Alistair funny, sweet, and a good guy to have around. He grew on me. Needless to day I dropped the romance with the elf and picked it up with Alistair.

Having played the game a few more times, I think depending what dialogue choices you use, he can be portrayed as spineless fool or a noble warrior. Give it up to both Bioware and Steve Valentine's voice work. Well done.
