From the gameplay video I saw of it, my mind instantly went to the Il2-Sturmovik games, which I still need to get...
I never flew the jet in BF2, but would fly the chopper every time I could. With that said, I'm not getting BF3. Its too expensive for what amounts to a multiplayer game with a shitty tagged on campaign.

I imagine that would be pretty awesome, although I'm not getting it.

I laughed my head off when you thought caps tags existed.
I hope that was on purpose because you were worried about showing enthusiasm.

I personally am more of a fan of the Mobile AA. I can't fly jets, so I decide that other people shouldn't be allowed to either! Pretty good at the takedowns too, if I can actually get into the vehicle before other people. Pity I always end up spawning so far away from it. I've almost unlocked the Thermal Camo too...

It is a great experience, it is rough to get into but once you get flares its tons of fun. Once DICE patches in separate sensitivity for all different vehicles it will be near perfect.

Going on a hot streak of disabling/destroying 2-3 aircraft in rapid succession feels great though Jets are not for those people who want lots of kills.

It hasn't even been a week and there are some ridiculous pilots already, I'm a decent pilot but I spent like 10 minutes chasing one guy who was just crazy good. Good Chopper pilots are even more insane. I had one game where our helo pilot never died(I got 14 kills as just his gunner but he was dodging jets and then killing them with AA missiles, sneaking around and taking out mobile AA head on.

BF3 is just tons of fun in any vehicle.

I find the jets in BF3 are actually easier to fly with a keyboard than a joystick.
I still can't get anywhere with the choppers as the stingers take me out. I need kills to get flares to stop stingers but I can't get kills because of the stingers because I don't have flares. AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH. I also suck as a gunner. Can't hit anything.
This is pretty much my experiance with the aircraft of BF3.
In BF2 i was a pretty good pilot but so far in BF3 ive been pretty hopeless, especially in the jets. As far as i can tell you need to get kills to unlock the flares, and then more kills to unlock the missiles... but getting any kills with the guns has been pretty futile so far.

But flying around in the jets is insanely badass so hopefully i'll stop sucking at it soon.
I find guns kills so much easier than missiles. Because fuck trying to get a lock-on and fire the missiles without the little bastard popping flares.

Ive managed to destroy quite a few enemy jets with the guns but ive yet to get an actual kill. They keep bailing out before i can finish them off :(

I'm liking the air combat now that I've got flares and I absolutely love the fact that attack choppers are so vulnerable to all the stingers running around. Payback for all the invisible guided death that they've doled out.

I lost my first dogfight because I jizzed. That's how awesome dog fighting is.

Unlike most people, I found the learning curve to be surprisingly easy for both jets and helos. Now I'm able to actually help my team by disabling ground vehicles. And the balance of infantry vs. jets/helos feels just right. If someone in a jet/helo has been flying around in the same jet/helo for 5-10 minutes, either they know what they're doing or the enemy doesn't care to take them down... unlike the helo "combat straffing" in BC2.

I can fly helicopters no problem, but jets are a different story.

I have to move my mouse a lot to make the plane turn, and that gets rather annoying. I wish the controls were a lot more touchy.

If you're on the PC, just find an empty server with a map with jets and practice there. On consoles you can't join an empty server because of the lack of a host.

This game is crazy good online. Some of the things that have happened when I've been playing are insane! Haven't enjoyed a game this much in ages.

I mean I was in a tank and a Helicopter tried to divebomb me (Rubbishdriver) and I SHOT A HELICOPTER OUT OF THE SKY! That's how cool this game is.

Conquest is where it's at though. Rush is boring.

Did try flying a jet - crashed into a building. Won't be doing that again. The sniper got the shock of his life though!

They're fun, but God was it annoying trying to unlock flares and homing missles. All you get is pissy little machine guns that stand no chance against more upgraded jets/helis. As soon as you take off it's "BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP", or should I say [caps]beep beep beep beep[/caps]. With about 5 kills, 50+ deaths, I'm finally starting to get good at the jets.

I would recommand anyone who has Battlefield 3 to get the flares and homing missles as soon as possible. Otherwise you'll be the odd one out and you'll never stand a chance.

How is it compared to what it was like in BF2? If you played BF2, that is.
It feels heavier, if you catch my drift. The BF2 planes felt somewhat lightweight, and were easy to quickly manoeuvre and such, these ones are somewhat less responsive. Found out the second I took off in MP. Almost shat myself trying to dodge stuff, ended up ejecting and heading for a Heli instead. Same 'problem' there. Time to get some practise with these damn things then, Imma get back to some good old Chopper combat, dodging missiles with a slight tilt and raining death from above. Lets just hope I don't get killed too often while practising.

Well I just got back from a friends house and we were playing BF3.

It was epic fun! The feeling of moving forward with your squad, giving each other suppressing fire and taking objectives was great and we actually felt like we were in a battle instead of just a lone wolf going around killing people for no reason.

One problem though...how the hell do you fly helicopters?

Do you mean the controls, how to control them effectively, or how to get in them? You can spawn inside them when they themselves respawn; the best way to get used to them is probably go into third person mode and just have a feel of what does what. You'll crash the first few times but it gets easier.

And I agree. It definitely feels more like a war game them Call of Duty. I love how most people actually play the objective (conquest), and it's even better when your team uses TEAMWORK.

Completely freaking useless. After 2 hours I came out with no kills. They only give you the gun to start with, no bombs, no radar, no counter measures, no missiles. And the gun is so ridiculously underpowered it isn't even funny.

I have thousands of kills from jets racked up in BF2 but can't get a single freaking one in this game. I guess they had to nerf the vehicles or all the CoD kids would get pissed and leave. I normally don't rage, but I am pissed to the Nth degree at this game right now. The entire reason I got it was for the jets and the helicopters and they basically gave pilots the big middle finger.

I guess this is another franchise I can chalk up to being dead in my eyes. Thanks a lot EA, if I wanted to run around with a gun capping control points I would have waited and picked up MW3.

Well we only got two chances to use them and both times we were able to lift off okay but then a few seconds later we were suddenly upside down...and dead.

Errr... for capital letters you just press the 'Caps Lock' key. SEE? IT'S EASY!

OT. It only came out yesterday here in England, not picked it up yet.
Think that might have been his way of being enthusiastic without 'yelling' at everyone ;).

OT: Glad they nailed the experience. I haven't played it myself, might rent the game, but I'm not much of an online person. Ever played Freespace 2? That is the feeling I ha dafter the first dog fighting level in the nebula. That is the level that sold me on Freespace 2, and why it is still on my Hard Drive to this day.
Was just on my way to check if BF3 has arrived yet in my mailbox, but now that you mention Freespace 2 again...
