The 3DS Ghost Recon was basically an unofficial XCOM sequel, (Similar mechanics, a lot of the same design team) it does some things better than the reboot, some things worse.
Kid Icarus is delightful fun.
Super Mario 3D Land, New Super Mario Bros. 2. Both are fun.
Starfox 64: 3D is good, but if you played the original you may want to save your money.
The 3DS Rayman is a pretty good remake, but if you played Rayman 2 save your money.

Good stuff coming relatively soon: Professor Layton, Paper Mario, Luigi's Mansion.

That enough?
Captcha: garlic, yum
It's a little late for garlic Captcha.

Zelda OOT is amazing =D
Still got my N64 copy.
I do too but it should be mentioned that the 3DS version is really pretty and the second screen inventory makes swapping boots in a certain temple a lot less tedious. Also the post-game challenge mode is really, really challenging though I concede that it may have been on the Gamecube re-release version.

Also Kid Icarus Uprising is only about 50% - 60% rail-shooting where the rest of the game is somewhat linear (though pretty) with fun enemies and relatively bad controls (although you can completely change the controls to make them less terrible)

Zelda OoT and Theatrhythm are amazing, I also really like the Virtual console thing, bought a few good games there.

Also, Nyko has an add-on called PowerPak+ which I highly recommend getting. Brings your battery life up to around 10 hours total.

If you like the strategy elements, I'd also recommend looking into Fire Emblem: Awakening, which should be out in Europe(and hopefully 'Merica) early next year. To get an idea of what it'll be like check out Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones or Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance.
It's got a 2013 NA/ europe release. Which makes me super fucking happy. Seriously though, from what all the japanphiles on Serenes forest are saying that the game is fucking awesome. Not to mention there's a shit ton of DLC also.

Super Mario 3D Land isn't the most memorable Mario experience, but it's one of the funnest and best-designed by far. If you have $40 to spare and just really like Mario games, I recommend getting it. If you wait a while, you can even download it instead of getting it retail, and then it will be really convenient for playing in short bursts, which it's ideal for.

Kid Icarus: Uprising is probably the most impressive original title on 3DS. It does an impressive job of re-imagining an old Nintendo IP, and the formula (airborne shooting, then ground combat / limited exploration) never quite wears out. The near-constant dialog is a bit much, but it does give the experience a charming character.
The controls are flawed but not too much of a pain; you can't exactly play it while walking to your car, but it shouldn't give you any more cramps than any other high-intensity action game. Kid Icarus: Uprising is one of the best reasons to own a 3DS, although the ending left me wanting a bit more... and not in the good way. It was just a lame ending to a game that constantly sought to be extraordinary, and mostly succeeded.

Aside from those... Paper Mario is a no-brainer, but you can't go wrong with Professor Layton or Sonic & All-Stars Racing, both of which come out pretty soon.

Bonus chapters with recruitable FE heroes (Marth, Alm, Celica, Celice, Leaf, Roy, Lyn, Eirika, Ephraim, Ike, Micaiah, Est, Catria and Palla.) Other chapters with exclusive scenarios and high challenge/reward. Two DLC only classes, Bride and Demon Fighter.

Pretty much what cheese said. FE: Awakening is pretty much fan-service to the max in all regards in order to bring in the fan-bases money (FE hasn't sold to well). Pretty much all of the systems in the game are ones that were popular in previous games (split-class changes, high growths and stat caps, abilities, marriage and a 2nd generation of children).

check out Serenes forest for more info. (including spoilers)

..why? why 3DS? barely any good innovative games for it, most are just Remakes and Re releases in the amazing Nausea Inducing 3D! Gonna hold my money until a Brick ton of games come out for it...like it's very own Halo, a game that makes me want to get the System just to play the Unique experience.
You know that the 3DS can play normal DS games, yes? The eShop has more content than the DSi Store, has access to all the 3DS games as well as regular DS games, and the 3D is entirely optional. To be frank, if you don't have a DS anything and even if you want to play DS games, I fail to see the reasoning behind getting anything OTHER than a 3DS. What if that shiny new 3DS game comes out that you want so badly? Nope, can't play that because you bought a boring DSi. Then you have to repurchase a whole new handheld for it, which could all be avoided by simply buying a 3DS the first time.

It's that detail that EVERYONE seems to be forgetting these days. It has EVERY functionality that a normal DS has and MORE. And that 3D option? You don't HAVE to use it. If it makes you sick, then don't use it. Now, I'll agree that there's no real reason to upgrade to a 3DS if you already have a DS of some sort. But if you don't have anything, there is literally no reason NOT to get a 3DS, unless you're a total stickler for pricing.

The first thing that came to mind was Kid Icarus: Uprising but if you've decided it's not for you I'm not going to rave about it. I can't really add anything that's not already been said but I didn't find the controls particularly awkward or uncomfortable.

I did love Starfox 64 3D and it does have a few nice extras for a die hard fan: redone music, vastly improved graphics, level-select score attack and a longer draw distance that makes the Corneria medal much easier.

Count me in the "excited for the new Fire Emblem" camp, it looks like it's got some neat new/old features and Serenes Forest forums practically won't shut up about it. I'm doubly pleased that we're actually getting it at all after New Mystery of the Emblem...

Yes i know it does all of that, i had a DSi, which i gave away for a child in hospital, and quite frankly i think the 3DS is quite pointless just a gimmicky item same as XL....the pixels are horrible on the thing.

The Guild01 games are getting a North American release on the eShop later this week.

Liberation Maiden by Suda51 and Crimson Shroud from the creator of Vagrant Story and FFXII are the two main games I have my eye on.

Almost all the games worth playing are overpriced right now IMO with no discount in sight.
Also IMO:

Ocarina of Time is not worth $40
Starfox is not worth $40
Mario Kart 7 is not worth $40

etc...

But if you really want to play those games (all the Nintendo made titles) well, then I guess you have to pay the money :(

The eSHOP has a lot of great games for decent prices tho! I have a 3DS and only own one retail game, but a crapload of DLC.
Nintendo games almost never get a price drop. Mario Kart on DS STILL costs around $30 new, and the DS Pokemon games are still $40, and a couple have actually gone up in price on Amazon.

I still wait for these games to get localized...
Youkai Watch, Shin Megami Tensai IV, pokemon mystery dungeon 3ds,Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney(+any other layton games), Ace Attorney 5, RuneFactory4 and Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward.

(Everyone seem to be looking forward to that upcoming game code princess game ... well I sure don't but you might still want to look it up anyway.

To be fair, they have to make up for Shadow Dragon, which was just terrible.

they also have to make up for Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem, a remake of the game that was the sequel to what shadow dragon remade. Namely they have to make up for how it was what shadow dragon should have been, but wasn't released outside of Japan.
