If you enjoy JRPGs, get Persona 3 & 4 for the PS2. Some of the best RPGs I've ever played.

Also, for PS2:

Jak & Daxter
Ratchet & Clank
Sly Cooper
Hitman
final Fantasy 12
Starwars Battlefront 2
Grand Theft Auto collection
Ico
shadow of the Colossus
Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistance
Megaman X-8
Timesplitters: Future Perfect
Destroy All Humans 1 & 2

For Wii:

Twilight Princess
Mario Kart Wii
Donkey Kong Country Returns
Kirby's Return to Dreamland
Kirby's Epic Yarn
Metroid Collection
Rockband 2

Persona 3, 4, and Odin Sphere are absolute musts. Digital Devil Saga is pretty good. Look into the Disgaea games as well. Anything Nippon Ichi has on the PS2 is good. I haven't played all of Atlus's titles on it to give a similar recommendation.

I've marked all the ones I own right now. I also removed all the PS2 games since I don't have one.

Is there anything awesome I'm missing out on? Thanks for any input!
The other Metroid Prime games are both awesome, but you'll need either a Gamecube controller or a lot of spare time for finding Metroid Prime Trilogy to play them as well. 3 is still worth the time and money on its own, but it might colour your expectations of the series.

Twilight Princess is all right, but you'll never be able to play it again after Skyward Sword. Either play it beforehand or don't bother.

Okami is excellent on both systems, but they both have their flaws: it's difficult to make brush strokes with an analogue stick as compared to the Wiimote sensor, but combat on the Wii is a total pain since it uses "waggle" as the melee attack and it requires much better timing than just pressing a button. Flip a coin.

Mario Galaxy 1 is just as brilliant and inspired as the second, and it's probably cheaper - but there aren't quite as many stars and Yoshi doesn't appear at all. Flip another coin. Preferably one of an entirely different denomination.

I can't advise you on your PS2 library, like I said, but for the Wii you should also consider Sonic Colours, Super Smash Bros Brawl and the more recent Xenoblade Chronicles (unless you live in the US, where it isn't out yet due to NoA's fear of money and success.)

PERSONA 4 IS A MUST
Persona 3 as well.

Dark Cloud 1 I noticed isn't up there, and it's much different and... cheaper than it's sequel.

I skimmed the thread, and I didn't see anyone mention it: So i'll throw it out there: Animal Crossing for the Wii. Some gamers may turn their noses up, but the game is rather addictive. I enjoyed it.

I quite like Soul Calibur 3, so if you like fighting games definitely get that one.
Most others I can think of have been mentioned...

Kya: dark lineage? I found that one was pretty fun for a ps2 game.

oh yes, SLY RACCOON, all three of them. Great character and personality in that series.

Baulders Gate Dark Alliance 1 and 2, especially if you have a sibling or firend for co-op! Me and my sis had tonnes of fun with those games!

Also I agree with MGS3, Black and Timesplitters 3!

For the PS2, grab Dragon Quest VIII. I got it about a week ago and have been having trouble putting it down. Ace Combat 4 is also a pretty good choice for the PS2 if you don't already have it. For either console, I would recommend Dragon Ball Z Budakai Tenkaichi 3 (if you're into that kind of thing)

top 3 games i have played for ps2 (IMO):
1. zone of the enders: amazing story and (if memory serves correctly) good combat mechanics

2. Metal gear solid 3: again, amazing story and also a extremely good game and may be the best of the series. (peace walker is a close second.)

3. Steambot chronicles: perhaps one of the best games that I have played in a long time. Definately in my top ten of all time. good, consistent art-style, amazing story, incredibly diverse, may be one of the best rpgs of the system. If you come across it, play it. you will not regret it.

How about two of the best character driven rpgs, Persona 3, and Persona 4.
This was the first thing I thought of looking at the thread title.

Disgaea is good, too.

For Wii, you really just need Donkey Kong Country Returns. Mario Kart and Smash Bros. are secondary.

For PS2, the list has to be expressed as a limit to infinity. My personal favorite is shadow of the colossus.

Ninjed

But seriously don's miss out on "Sly Cooper and the Thevius Raccoonus". This is a little old, and cartoony, but the mechanics are really good, the aesthetic is great, over all some of my fondest memories from my PS2. I also played the squeal and it is great as well, but never got my hands on the third one.
