I would love to see you try to play the dark descent.

Moives make me "jump" but tend not to scare me.

however that game fills me with FEAR. it doesnt just go boo!

So a few weeks ago I asked a thread in which if Bioshock is worth a purchase and asked if it was actually scary. Well most said it wasn't bad and so I popped it in today and stopped after one minute. After the plane crash and you enter the building it was so dark and I'm afraid of the dark, so that didn't help. Also I quit after you start the machine that takes you to Rapture. So I think I figured out I'm the biggest wuss in the world. I'm selling it back on Ebay right away. Ever have a similar experience?

EDIT: If you want to know how scared I get, I cried to my friend begging him so that we wouldn't see this movie.

sounds cruel but that movies looks fucking awesome

OT Bioshock did creep me out, but it was nothing to the raw terror I felt playing Condemned.. That game shit me up so much, I only played it once, even though Im an achievement whore I've never picked it up again, I want to cuz it was damn good, but I've never had the nerve.

Personally I dont get scared by videogames very easy but I can realize it when theres a part that might scare other people. Also like other people said Bioshock gets less scary as you go through the game

Just kill yourself a few times to see how pathetic the game's death system is. You are an invincible tank.

No really, do it. Once you see what the worst the game has to offer you, you won't be scared of anything, just mildly inconvenienced.

Honestly, you really should give it another go. The game ditches the "dark scary disheveled city" after the Medical Pavilion. (Which is the 1st level after the tutorial.) You really shouldn't give up on a game because your too scared. Especially one as good as Bioshock, but its your choice.

I've never been in a similar position (Or at least I've never sold the game). Have I been scared by a game? Ya, especially when I was a lot younger, but I usually go back and try beat it. Its a little funny looking back at what use to scare me.
Dude, if he didn't even get down to rapture, he would probably have a heart attack at Fort Frolic. His first encounter with the shotgun may be his last MOMENT ON EARTH.

I get scared of a lot of shit especially games because I get into the game and RP to the point were in fallout new vegas I made a character on very hard, hardcore mode that when he died I would never play that character again... Do you know what a Deathclaw is? Do you know how fast they run? Do you have any idea how scary they are under those circumstances? Scariest shit ever!

My advise just try again it is well worth the time and if it is just to much for you sit down with a friend and play it. Things aren't as scary when you have a buddy going "DAAAAAMMMMN" when ever a guy rips the innards out of some one.

Once you realize that you have a hand that shoots lightning and a machine gun that has "lol" written on the back, all horror elements fly out the window, and Bioshock becomes a slightly creepy action game.

I can't watch horror movies. Ever. No matter how cheesy the gore is, I can't watch them. I lack the proper defense mechanisms.

If your scared that easily than it's a good thing you sold it...

Cuz let me tell you, it gets worse before it gets better... ALOT worse...

Shame though, it's an absolutely amazing game!

Bioshock becomes a hell of a lot less scary after the intro. The splicers are just thin people wearing masks who shout alot. Still well worth playing though, you might want to be more hesitant about selling it on.

Okay...that made me laugh, I won't lie xD.

But if he plays his plasmids right (And has Wrench Jockey attached) he can one shot every single thuggish splicer until he gets to Port Neptune.

This.

Seriously, death doesn't matter in this game. You just revive a few feet away from where you died.

You could go through the game using just your wrench if you so desired.

DON'T SELL IT!

It's worth it, really. Get a friend to play it with you if you have to. It is more than worth playing, even if you're scared. Seriously, I cannot stress enough that you must keep it!

I get scared easily too, but seriously, it's worth it. So good!
I have to agree with Thaius, the game is a diamond among games even now... Well worth it if you keep it...

There are only about 1 or 2 other scares in Bioshock; it's definitely worth playing. The bit in the dentist area (I believe it was) actually had me give a little yelp out loud. You don't have to go in there though.

Fuck man, Silent Hill 2 and Fatal Frame 2 made me piss my pants and I still beat both games.
Bio Shock isn't so compared to SH2 twin vag monsters and the frighteningly tacky skirt Maria wears.
This.

If I may make a suggestion why don't you invite a friend over who also hasn't played the game then it's alot less scary.

Ahahahahahahaha

Bioshock is not scary. You can do it, trust me.
You can trust me because I too was once a wuss.

A long time ago, at least 5 years ago, I got a metroid prime. The 1st.
It scared me so bad. I barly got through the space station, then I gave up cause I got too scared.
Then I forced myself a few years later, and then I was able to handle it.
Over the years, I progressed up the scary games. From Metroid Prime to Hitman: Blood Money to Bioshock to Resident Evil 1 (Remake for Gamecube) to Condemned: Criminal Origins to Silent Hill 2.

Resident Evil 1 was pretty scary, I am sure that game would make you shit bricks. Condemned is even scarier, and Silent Hill 2 is off the charts. Seriously, that game is hardcore.

Ever played Nightmare House 1 or 2 for Half Life 2?

I cannot, and will not play them, because I know I will void my bowels.
Oh man, I tried those recently. 1 pissed me off, constantly startling me, but 2 was really good. Very good story, progression, action, and was very scary without having to go BOO every 5 seconds.
Amazing that a mod could be so good as Nightmare house 2.

You've passed the scariest bit already.

No, wait, in about 3 minutes of gameplay you will have passed the scariest bit.

The rest is just slightly weird and creepy, with fairly clunky combat (and wonderful storytelling).

I'm with you, dude. I guess our natural instincts (you know, try to protect yourself from something that scares the shit out of you, presumably by running the fuck away) are a little highly refined, or we just don't see the appeal. I don't like movies like Saw or Hostel, etc., or the ones which make things jump out at you for a cheap gag, because the former are just fucking sick and the latter are lazy and shitty writing, and it's embarrassing to jump when you're not even scared. Shit gets old. -.-

I saw to myself, "I spent money on this, so I better play through it!"

Sell Bioshock after one minute? Man, you so crazy...
