"The definitive edition for Mass Effect 3 fans".

No, they're not talking about the previously discussed Collectors Edition, they're talking about the Digital Deluxe Edition.

Looking at the contents, the loadout is almost exactly the same as the physical CE, apart from this little doozy somewhat hidden at the bottom of the page under "Also Includes" -

"Additional downloadable mission and character"

....

Now don't get me wrong, I don't want this to turn into a "To Day One DLC or not to Day One DLC" debate, as that's been done to death recently. What I do find interesting is that there is no mention of the additional mission and character in the physical CE edition (or anywhere else for that matter), and the placement of this startling piece of news in the email suggests that EA were trying to gloss over the inclusion, but at the moment the additional mission and character would be the only reason i'd get the DDE over the CE.

Not to mention the top of the email states -

"Digital Deluxe Editions are in limited supply - have you pre-ordered yours?"

All in all, this email confused the hell out of me. I'm not huge into CE of games, I got the Deus Ex one because i'm a long time fan of the series, and I got the ME2 DDE because of the pre-order bonuses, but aside from those (and The Witcher EE and Witcher 2 SE) I don't generally see the point in putting out the extra cash.

But surely a CE of a game should be the version that is the most limited and with the most bonuses, including in-game content? Especially when that in-game content is an extra mission and character in an RPG game known for it's cool characters and story.

I'm assuming that this is just to get people to subscribe to Origin and make purchases from there, but either way I think it's a pretty low act from EA (surprise surprise).

What I can't understand though is if the major selling point of the DDE is the extra mission and character, why have it almost listed as an addendum to the advertisement?

Whatever the case, i'm annoyed. I was all set to grab the CE for ME3, but until I get some clarification from EA, I can't do so if I think i'm going to be missing out on content.

/end rant.

Well Origin can go **** itself, but since all my savegames are on my 360 the Digital edition won't help me much anyways.

Wonder which character they're holding to ransom though...

I think they are just throwing that in there to draw more people to Origin and such. I doubt there will be any additional content.

Besides, even if there was, it's not worth having Origin there spying and taking information off of your computer.

According to the collector's edition on Amazon there is an additional downloadable mission and character at least for xbox 360. That's where I bought mine for 70 dollars (regularly it's 80 but amazon gave me a ten dollar off coupon for another purchase I had made).

I'm pretty sure the Collector's Edition (That always sounds odd in Mass Effect context) says it comes with an additional character.

That's probably just a name change of the CE for Origin because, with digital distribution, you aren't "collecting" anything. So, they re-brand and alliterate. No big deal.

Hmmmm, according to the news article here on the escapist, the additional character and mission aren't mentioned, but you're right, they are included in the CE according to EB games (not that i'd shop there in any case).

/apology for jumping the gun.

Happens to all of us. Honestly they're not talking about it a whole lot. I only noticed it because one of the pictures on amazon tells you all the extra stuff. It was under "also includes" kind of in the corner so it's not easily noticed.

What baffles me is that something that is digital can't be in limited supply, do they expect people to buy into the novelty of limiting something infinite?

This... this has blown my mind, in the worst way possible...

....There is no such thing as limited digital copy! (╯‵Д′)╯彡┻━┻ GHA!

OT: Sounds like EA just trying to wring out another few dollars from people that buy collectors edition.

Yeah, it's possible they will further the outrage and risk the bad PR by lying to get people locked into a system, rather than just withholding a character to get locked into the system without any of the potential side effects of having lied.

I'm going with Occam's Razor here.

only infinite as long as they keep selling it.

But hey, that sorta gets into another can of worms.

Yeah I get that, I probably should have said 'potentially infinite'.

I look forward to the let's plays but there's no way in hell I'm shelling out cash for something that requires Origin. It sucks to have wasted all that time playing ME1 and ME2 but such is life.

I believe the digital deluxe is simply the collectors edition, but digital!
Of course I have the first two games on the 360 and I absolutely refuse to use Origin even if I did, for some reason, decide to upgrade my PC and buy the first two games again.

Yeah, as it turns out, it is exactly the same, fine print being the ***** that it is.

Regarding the Origin thing, I had it installed for the BF3 beta, and honestly didn't really have any problems with it. Considering people have already worked out a way to disable it while gaming, it's potentially not the big nasty beast we all thought it would it be. It definitely won't be stopping me from getting ME3 on the PC, and when you chuck ToR and BF3 (when the majority of the glitches are fixed), I think it will quickly become a necessary app alongside Steam for PC gamers.

And yeah, I had a decent chuckle at the DDE having a limited supply. I sort of wonder if that's EA worrying about the server load or just grabbing for cash though, as the ME2 DDE on Steam was one of the more popular purchases of the year from memory.

"Digital Deluxe Editions are in limited supply."

How? It's digital. That's the entire point of digital.

I have preordered the physical Collector's Edition and I have triple-checked: It does in fact come with downloadable character and mission.

Also, this is straight off their website for the N7 Collector's Edition - and this is the physical version.

http://na.llnet.bioware.cdn.ea.com/u/f/eagames/bioware/masseffect3/resources/assets/game/n7_ce_vignette-p.jpg

So, no worries :D

As people have been saying, the Digital Deluxe version is the Digital version of the N7 Edition. The only thing that the N7 Edition has that the Digital Deluxe version does not is the fabric patch, I believe. I'm sure they'll be giving out a digital art book, comic and lithograph. Or else the DD version would have to be significantly cheaper than the N7 Edition.

EDIT: This is for PC, but I believe this is the same for both Xbox 360 and PS3.
