And Steam says I'm at 30 hours. I also work/have school, so that's kinda nuts.

This game is sooooo goooood (once you get over the whole *swing* *miss* thing that is combat). Mods make it better. Spell crafting? Custom enchants? MY GOD WHY DID THESE GET TAKEN OUT.........

Basically, what do you think is one of Morrowind's best features? And if you tried it but didn't like it, why?

Until the next Skyrim DLC, TESV can go sit in the corner. TESIII is teh king.

Morrowind's best feature for me is probably the world/setting itself. It's so easy to get lost in it all. I love the variety in quest lines as well.

Best is definitely the world for me. Great lore.

Worst is definitely the combat issue you mentioned. So lame.

There are Stilt Striders. I don't see why you'd want instant teleportation when you have GIANT BEETLE TAXIS.

Not in the sense that you can click on any location and go there. It does have stilt-striders. Kinda like taxis, you have to pay to ride them to pre-set locations.

There are also boats and some spells.

Mark/Recall and the two Intervention spells.

Question 2, do these beatles take you to any previously found location or just cities

They can only travel between major cities and towns. Still, Giant Beetle taxis.

Yes! A new member to the cult of Morrowind!

Anyway, Morrowind is my favorite game, ever. I would probably say that the best feature of it is the moddability, which basically ensures that people will be playing this for decades to come.

OP, once you get bored of the vanilla game and the expansions (ha, like that would ever happen), I highly recommend you check out the Tamriel Rebuilt mod. It basically adds a significant chunk of the mainland part of the Morrowind province. The quality of it is often better than that of the normal game.

There is also teleportation by different mage guilds, and 3 travel (4 technically) spells. 1 takes you to dunmer temples, 1 to imperial temples, and the other lets you "mark" a location and then a different spell "recall"s you to it. So you can use it in a dungeon, use one of the temple spells, and then port back. You would need high willpower though.... or you'd just waste magicka.

The stats are pretty nice too, although I'm not too keen on focusing on 2-3 stats per level. Does it really make that much a difference? I'm only level 8, but doing Bloodmoon without problems. Got the Lord's Mail already, just kinda lol'ing at mobs.

Yeah, I saw that. I plan on checking it out once I beat the game on a couple chars.

Because even in a game as unbalanced as the Elder Scrolls, custom spells and enchantments were even more so.

I still have to get around to Morrowind sometime. It sits, among -many- other games, in my oversized backlog that only seems to grow as time passes. Last December I did a massive gaming binge to clear out most of that backlog. Maybe i'll have to do something like that again. XD

Best about the game? Hard to say, because the individual aspects of Morrowind that I enjoy, wouldn't amount to much on their own. For example, the world is filled to the brim with excellent lore, but that wouldn't matter to me in the slightest if the dialog didn't show bits of it, or if you were never given a reason to investigate it (much of the main storyline is pretty much detective work!)

I guess I'll go with "immersion"

Captcha: play again

If Morrowind is able to suck you in, there is a distinct possibility that a backlog binge might be entirely consumed by Morrowind. I'm not saying you shouldn't try it out, but I'm just giving you a fair warning that you can end up spending a lot of time on this game.

Games that I played in last year's "Binge", with the dates I beat them:

Bastion (Dec 9)
Orcs Must Die! (Dec 10)
Assassin's Creed Revelations (Dec 12)
Bioshock 2 (Dec 13)
Borderlands (Dec 14)
Metro 2033 (Dec 15)
Trauma (Dec 15)
Company of Heroes (Dec 16)
Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts (Dec 16)
Trine (Dec 17)
Limbo (Dec 18)
Amnesia: The Dark Descent (Dec 19)
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (Dec 20)
Fallout 2 (Dec 21)
STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl (Dec 24)
Red Faction: Guerilla (Dec 29)
Prototype (Dec 30)
Warhammer 40k Dawn of War (Dec 31)
Warhammer 40k Dawn of War: Winter Assault (Dec 31)
Warhammer 40k Dawn of War: Dark Crusade (Jan 3)
Warhammer 40k Dawn of War: Soulstorm (Jan 4)
X-Com: UFO Defense (Jan 21)

Granted, some of those I had played through a bit before taking part in this frenzy (Borderlands and Oblivion, most notably), but this still was pretty much a straight run of picking up a game from the start and rushing through it.

Now... tell me... how much time would Morrowind suck out of me? :p

Idk, the spells feel a bit more balanced imo. With the % cast chance, unless you spec full mage you are gonna fail most of the time. And no mana regen makes spamming near impossible.

Indeed.

OT: Since the quoted poster ninja'd my favorite feature, I'll give another. I always enjoyed how magic wasn't simply an alternate means of killing. Roughly 1/2 of the spells in the game (maybe more) serve utilitarian purposes. Levitate/Jump let you evade enemies (levitate + spear = hilarity) and get to otherwise inaccessible places. Fortify attribute/skill spells and enchantments serve many noncombat purposes. Divine/Almsivi intervention gives you additional waypoints for fast travel. Etc. Magic in subsequent games just felt so... empty.

Why does it matter that it's unbalanced? This isn't a pvp game. Any character build you can imagine will become unstoppable by level 20. Half the fun of the damn game was finding a combination of magic/enchantments that either buff you, debuff opponents or just straight destroy shit and break the game. I can tell you that elder scrolls players had much more fun running around with CE reflect 100% and restore health 10pts than the piddly shit you can do in oblivion or skyrim...

Well I know why those things to taken out, they where broken as hell. You can make stuff in the game that increase your attributes by like 10,000 or some shit if you know what to do. I mean people complain about the Skyrim enchant then alchemy thing. But that game could be broke much worse.
