But didn't you know? Slytherins are pure evil and will all become murdering rapists, because apparently the most ambitious thing a wizard can do is kill everyone. Why are you complaining? The books are blatantly biased for the "light side".

Also, "Sorcerers's Stone"? It's called the "Philosopher's Stone", at least where I come from anyway

If the philospher's stone was destroyed anyway, why didn't the dumbledore just destroy it before the story began = problem solved.

ANOTHER ONE: OK, yes, I know. The snitch is not technically an AUTOMATIC win, it IS worth a ridiculous amount of points, especially when all the other balls score a mere 10 points.
Thank you for that article. That made my day.

its ok because the idea of the house cup pretty much got the shaft by the thrid book, the movies dont mention it past the first I think and its pretty irrelevent past the third book, I dont really think their was much of a point to it other then to reinforce the idea of something being good or bad or to simply add more depth to the universe she made.

Sadly Slytherin are the ones with big black mustaches and therfore cannot win even if having a logical higher ground.

Well they kinda killed the most dangerous wizard in the world so they kind of deserve to win...

Well I've viewed it as the three boys and a girl got some points for pretty much.. well, saving the world. Y'know. Stopping Voldemort coming to life and being immortal and all that.

And The Philosopher's Stone ('cos that's the name) seemed quite innocent compared to the others.
Sorcerers stone is the American title, i know, its stupid to change it given that its a british film.

Malfoy wasn't following the rules, he was being a stinkin' rat. And don't think the points were awarded for what Dumbledore said they were, more like for stopping Voldemort from being rezed.

I really enjoyed that hallucinatory soft core porn scene between Harry and Hermione in The Deathly Hollows Part 1. Of course, my opinions regarding the HP series can probably be ignored. I'm still of teh opinion that Harry and Ron should have died at the end, with Hermino, Ginny, and Tonks all consoling each other. Naked.

..... (0.0) Soft ... core ... porn ... ?

Hang on. Torrents call.

EDIT:
"they took down an attempt to bring back the greatest evil there world had known in their first year at school not to metion broke through defences made by there teachers wisards who had been practing magic for there whole lifes showing knowlage far beyond their experience it think they deserved the credit.

god l love those books"

... you can read? `Cause sweet Jesus that post is like glass in my literary eyes.

I cringe when I watch the earlier movies...children just can't act.
Yeah, because the acting TOTALLY gets better the further you get in the series./sarcasm

I dunno, I think 170 house points is a pretty fair reward for four twelve year olds who just fought off the most powerful evil wizard in the world.

It's a kid's story, the heroes HAVE to win. Plus, I guess they would have logically gathered the extra brownie points for, I don't know, saving the world perhaps?

Sorcerers stone?
wut?

Im pretty sure its because they, y'know saved the world
(For a few books anyway)
Its called the Sorcerers Stone in America because it was worried that they didn't know what a philosopher was which would lower sales.

And how about Quidditch? ONE BALL wins the game? Who the fuck thought THAT was a good idea? So even if the entire is amazing at the sport, as long as the opposing team has ONE good player they can still win, even if the rest of their team sucks? How is that balanced? How is that fair?
That's what happens in every fictional sports match ever, the only difference with Quidditch is that it's built into the rules. It does make every position other than snitch-catcher (or whatever it was called) hilariously pointless though...
The Snitch catcher is called a seeker....nerdyness CONFIRMED!!!

Slytherin House just got robbed.

What kind of crap was that?
Hermione got 50 points for being smart
Ron got 50 points for being good at chess.
Harry got 60 points for being nice.
Neville got 10 points for standing up to his housemates; trying to keep them from breaking the rules?

The worst thing we saw from Slytherin was Draco being snobby and informing the faculty of Gyffindor students being out past curfew.

Gryffindor had no right in winning the House Cup. No wonder members of Slytherin House ended up so 'rotten'. They played by the rules and should have won, but had that victory taken from them by a bunch of troublemakers. Even worse in Order of the Pheonix members of Slytherin are working with the Ministry of Magic and are still perceived to be the villains.
The Ministry of Magic is seen as evil in the Order Of The Phoenix because they are clearly denying the return of the most evil wizard known to them. At the very least they could have prepared the students instead of just denying it outright. They were pretty evil in that movie in my opinion.

In the Sorceror's Stone Harry, Ron, and Hermione were rewarded for saving the school. If they had to break a few rules to do so who cares? Sometimes rules are meant to be broken if it is whats required to stop the most evil wizard from returning to terrorize the wizarding world.

I'm still stuck on them having an entire house devoted to people that are pretty much ALWAYS future psychopaths and everyone's just OK with it.
In all fairness (Gonna sound like a dork here) but the traits of Slytherin are something like pride and ambition, which doesn't necessarily mean evil. Harry, Ron and Hermione were all SUPER Gryffindor material (Since you get some people who really don't fit in the house like Neville), so in the same way, I suppose JK felt she had to make all the Slytherin characters really Slytherin, if that makes sense. Still, I'd love to see like a character or a side-story that focuses on one of them that isn't a complete twat. Proud and arrogant maybe, but not a twat.

To be quite honest with you, even though Severus Snape is my favourite character in the entire series, I have always felt sorry for the Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff houses, because those houses seem to be shunted in favour of Gryffindor and Slytherin. While Rowling seems to like to portray Gryffindor as the underdogs in the first book (at least that's what I think) Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff get next to no glory. I think some passing comment is made in the first book of Ravenclaw winning the quidditch cup and noone seems to think that much about it, I mean, more fuss was made when Gryffindor won the cup in the third book and in the fourth book Diggory is the triwizard champion (and subsequently killed off) they get next to no credit for any good deeds they do, especially in the first three books.
