Just watched Shadow of the Collosus gameplay from beginning to end... holy shit.

I'd described my current dream game over beer to my best friend one summer afternoon.

Then I watched him play Yakuza 2 about a week later. And I fell in love at first sight.

For precisely the reasons you mentioned. The music, the sound, the atmosphere, the story...was EXACTLY the right kind at the right time, with the right gameplay to tie it all together.

Don't get the PS2 version. You might as well get a Ps3 and get the 40 dollar package of ICO and SOTC. Personally I'm waiting for a price drop but I've already played SOTC. That and the Sly Collection was 3 games for 30 bucks.

Yeah, SotC is amazing. I watched it on Youtube too, since I don't have a PS2 and I'm not likely to ever buy a console. I have started doing the same with Ico, and it's just as good.
I wish Japanese game companies didn't have such a hard-on for consoles, and would release some of their better stuff on PC.

SotC and ICO are experiences unlike any other.

OP, if you manage to obtain a PS2 and SotC, I highly recommend you seek out a copy of ICO. It will cost you next to full retail price, considering it is a rare commodity these days, but it is beyond worth it. I purchased a near perfect copy for $40 almost a year ago, and am exceedingly happy I did.

You watched it on Youtube? Man you did not get the full experience and never will. I played it beginning to end with no walk-though. The fun of the fights are figuring out what you must do to beat the Colossi. It give a bigger feeling of Accomplishment to watch them tumble and fall with each fictory, to know You did it on your own. And watching the vids stole that right from you. Congratulations.

ICO Collection = $40 and it's not even out yet and likely won't be out until 2012.
TOTAL: $340, and you can't play SotC yet.

New PS2 = $100
Shadow of the Colossus = $20 and you get to play right now.
TOTAL = $120, and you can play SotC now.

Math says your plan, to be completely blunt, is terrible. Pay almost triple the amount to not play the game for at least a year.

Oh, thought it was out as I saw prices for it on Gamestop.

Certainly recommend SOTC, my only issue with the collection is the gamesrice.

And I don't find HD updates to be worth such a steep price hike as SOTC on the Ps2 from Gamestop is 16 bucks. Oddly enough, ICO is $28.

Your Gamestop has Ico? You lucky SOB. I wish mine had a copy of it, I'd even pay 40 for it.

There is a PS3 HD version coming out soon you could just wait for it.
the music is perfect for the game.

The ideal experience is subjective. Don't impose your view on it on others.

I know plenty of people who enjoy experiencing games but don't actually game. They don't have time or the inclination to play these games. My ex girlfriend in fact loved videogames, but refused to ever pick one up. She just felt like getting good at it would be a chore and a waste of time. But she enjoyed watching me play through them! In fact, it's a big aspect of the whole Let's Play culture and why people enjoy that.

Let's Plays are why I really enjoyed some of the Persona games, which I would have never picked up otherwise.
