Is this a "rage statement" (false statement made while raging, and later realized as false)? Because, if it isn't, take a good hard look at the state of PC gaming.

Gamestop just bought Impulse, Direct2Drive is still making a boatload of money, game streaming services (i.e. Onlive, etc.) are trying to launch on the platform, and some of the most innovative titles are still coming out of the independent PC scene.

All I'm saying is, it definitely isn't being kept alive PURELY through STEAM, although STEAM is obviously the frontrunner. Better Graphics, Better Controls (opinion), and mods. The PC is alive, because the PC is the (opinion) superior platform.

I'm a PC gamer myself and have yet to see any evidence of "Elitism". Unless you're talking about trolls belittling you for your choice of a gaming platform, if such is the case, I've seen more console "Elitists" than PC ones. This thread itself is enough evidence.

Anyone who makes claims about PC gamers being "elitist" or some other such nonsense is deluded. Yes there are PC fanboys who disguise their fanboyerism in a rhetoric of smug superiority, but at their core they are no different from 360 or PS3 fanboys bashing the other consoles, the Wii in particular, and iPhone/Android gaming.

So I don't get it. Who started this master race thing? The very first time I heard it, Yahtzee said that in The Witcher review :p

Ahh, no it's not? At all. Spywar- Origin- is out there, a lot of games don't even use either platform. Large competitive communities develop on PC a lot faster and stay for a lot longer. A lot of people who are usually console gamers buy games like Skyrim on PC for a better experience.

The PC being extremely capable is keeping the PC alive. And to clarify, I own an Xbox 360, a PS3, two handheld platforms and my gaming PC. I play Dragon Ball Z games and Halo on xbox, FIFA on PS3 (yes my PS3 was a waste of money) and proper games like CoD and the Elder Scrolls and pretty much any big release on PC, because I like versing communities of actual good players and playing competitively in national competitions (like cybergamer in Australia). These competitions are open to consoles of course, but I am prejudiced by playing years on PC and the general attitude of CoD players in general that console gamers are bad because they are limited by joysticks and simple button layouts (which they are).

Steam is an annoying program that does nothing for keeping PC gaming alive, if Steam were to disappear over night it wouldn't change anything.

there is no "master race" in gaming, i myself am a PC gamer, but not for long (i hope)
both PCs and consoles have their pros and cons, just because under-educated retard number whatever says one is better than the other don't mean that its true. This whole PC/console war is pointless. Also point of interest Steam ain't the only thing keeping PC gaming alive

Ahh, love the Yahtzee reference.
I'm not much of a PC gamer, but I like RTS better on pc, I just don't see total war working on a console.
But I just like the feel of good ol' controller for pretty much everything else.

Because we have better graphics and mods and our controller has over 50 buttons!!!!

Meh. I don't know. It's all the same to me. I prefer PC gaming because I like gaming alone. All my friends have Xboxs and bug me constantly to play online, so today I turned off auto-renewal, will let my LIVE run out (16th of this month) and then say bye bye to my 360.
Back on topic with a story: I know elitists can be annoying. My friend has people in his class that are total PC elitists. I talked to them a few times and they are absolute idiots. They believe PCs are superior to all consoles because the graphics are better. That's it. Nothing else. They don't care about anything else. It's graphics, graphics, graphics. One guy got 12 GBs of RAM for his PC just because he wanted better graphics. I don't know about his PC, but I have 16 GB of RAM (may seem extreme, but RAM is inexpensive and now I don't need to get more for ages) and my graphics didn't change. The game runs smoother, but looks no better.

For the most part: People want to justify why they spent $1,200 on a PC versus $200-300 on a console.
Not to mention the fact they can use a screwdriver. Life skill +1.
With my PC I don't even really need a screwdriver, the panels snap on and off and most of the components are just a case of plugging things in and out. Also my pc cost less than my PS3 and can play most games, sure it isnt running BF3 at full spec and crysis 2 makes it cry (no pun intended) but it can run minecraft well enough and dreamcast re-releases and what have you.

I had to chuckle at the "please no raging bit". You just wrote a lengthy post bashing people for having a different opinion to you, whilst stating your own opinion as fact, and you don't want people to rage at you? Seriously?

Get some perspective, you're being just as opionated as these "elitests" you're raging against.

If you do not like the keyboard and mouse and prefer a controller, that is your opinion, and you are entitled to it. What you are not entitled to do is come here pretending that you're assessments of the general quality of PCs as a platform are anything other than your own opinion, and then ask people not to "rage" at you for your absurd and utterly wrong claims that "steam is the only thing keeping PC gaming alive".

As someone who supposedly claims to enjoy pc gaming you sure have a narrow minded view of "what is keeping it alive" because no, it is not just steam.

I personally enjoy pc gaming for all the options and customizability that comes with the hardware, software and games. Their is vastly vastly more diversity and personalization with gaming and everything to do with gaming when you play on PC than on consoles.

I like playing games on very high settings at very high frame rates with perfect picture quality, surround sound and the ability to socialize with anyone anywhere, open up other programs, listen to music, podcasts etc etc all in the comfort of my own room.

As for controllers, I use keyboard and mouse when it suits the game. If they do not I use my pc 360 gamepad. I've built my last 3 pcs with custom parts myself as well, which is also a big aspect I feel of what makes pc gaming appealing; you are much more invested in it if you take it to its fullest potential.

But sure, like everyone else I know pc gaming can be a massive hassle and sometimes you just want the simplicity of a console experience so I happily play my ps3 and 360 frequently too.

I've just gotten really pissed off with this one guy who, despite being a member of the master race, just raged at everyone who made the slightest criticism of the PC as a gaming platform. And I'd just really like everyone who does this to stop. It's not the master race, and it just makes you look like a nob when you shout at people for saying that PC gaming isn't absolutely perfect in every way. Now before ANYONE shouts at me I would like to say that I play games on the PC and consoles and, despite both of them having their pros and cons, they are both about the same on quality. PC has mods and the mouse is much more suited to fps' than the Xbox controller but the keyboard, oh god the keyboard.

People who rage at console gamers for being console gamers are only making themselves look like dicks. Face it guys, the only thing keeping the PC alive is Steam.

Now let the foruming commence!

(Please no raging.)
Yeah, and console gaming would be dead (or worse, Wii dominated) without Xbox. But both Xbox and Steam exists. Sooooo...

And it's not just Steam, it's also Blizzard's games (World of Warcraft, Starcraft 2, etc) all of which have never been on Steam.

Might I make some suggested edits to your post:

People who rage at PC gamers for being PC gamers are only making themselves look like dicks.
PC is not the master race, it's a very naughty boy!
mouse is much more suited to fps' than the Xbox controller but the keyboard, oh god the keyboard... is such a perfect interface. You can so quickly dodge from side to side, and jump plus get the perfect diagonals for strafing. And you have so many adaptable inputs to use.

PC gaming is good if you have lots of money to throw around. There's also certain games I prefer playing on a PC, others I prefer on console.

For instance I prefer games like the Sims and Warcraft (the RTS-games) on PC, using my mouse and keyboard.

Adventure-games and roleplaying games that involve a lot of running around and doesn't require a huge amount of buttons to work properly I prefer playing on a console with a real hand-controller. The keyboard just gets in the way in games like this, and it can take some time getting used to which button does what when half of the keyboard isn't even necessary.
Having said this yes I am aware you can connect a controller to the PC and a mouse and keyboard to the Playstation 3, but they work easier on the machine they were built for.

If you spent that much on a PC you've just been conned, my good fool! You can get a PC that is better in tech than the console for easily £400 and if you spend more you've just made it last longer meaning you don't have to buy a by-then cheap graphic card that'll allow you to continue.

Sick of people saying PCs are that expensive. Do some research.

PC are only good in terms of graphic quality, although this makes no difference to the game. Look at Crysis 2. PC moaning about the graphics and get an update to make the graphics amazing, but, i played Crysis 2 on 360 and its just a generic fps i completed in two days and sold. Yes, my 360 version didn't have better graphics than you, but then i haven't spent £2000 on updated cards for a bland shooter.

But we are all gamers and enjoy games. Doesn't matter what the platform is we use.
