An Oregon woman is suing Justin Bieber after claiming permamnent ear damage from attending one of his shows. She says she got hit by a "sound blast" caused by his giant heart shaped gondola, which was pulled into the crowd and also from the thousands of screaming fangirls. Justin was visably seen encouraging the shreiks, waving his arms up in a quick continuous motion.

Suing for just over nine-million dollars she says she now suffers from tinnitus, a condition which causes a constant pulsing, whooshing sound that makes it hard for her to sleep. There are other damages which she claims were caused from the noisy concert

This is the gondola moment in question. It's hard to capture noise from a phone but you can only imagine how loud it was in person

I feel sorry for the lady as I'm sure it is a very uncomfortable condition but on the other hand, seriously? Bieber can't buy a drink at a local coffee shop without being screamed at let alone when he is performing for 20,000 fans.

The lady should have known. Every time I go to a heavy metal concert, I know I'm leaving at the end of the night with hearing loss and drenched in sweat. Just gotta deal with it.

On the other hand...it's beiber.

Yeah, this lady is a silly person, but honestly, the only victim I see here is beiber, and I honestly find it hard to feel bad about that.

It's so nice when idiots get together to harm each other.

I think she's got a valid case, though I don't think it justifies nine million, I hope she does get a good chunk though.

Nothing against Justin, but that's just stupid what he did.
Usually when a lawsuit happens they will ask for a ridiculously large amount of money. So in this case she wants 9million, Justins lawyers will try bargain her down a little and instead try to settle for 1mllion. It's still a lot of money but seems like less in comparison.

Question: What idiot goes to a concert without ear plugs and expects to walk out without a ring in their ears?

Also the tinnitus, or just the ring in your ears in plain English, goes away after a few days, a week at most and it's almost quiet again. Nothing to claim damages about. And that's from my experience of a pretty heavy blow to the head right on my ear that instantly made everything sound like it was underwater. Music should be less bad.
Actually, depending on how loud the sound and where she was in the crowd she could get permanent hearing damage, so if her hearing was damaged because of that thing then she might have a case.

And we will all have to deal with restrained concerts or sign a waiver releasing performers from damages.

I really don't see this going anywhere. He shouldn't even give this woman a settlement.

I really don't think it was the performer's fault as it was the stage designer, that person should've known better than to put reflective metal into a loud concert.

I don't think it's going anywhere either since she really should've thought about where she was in the first place.

Lol, that video. Do those idiots actually go there to scream, or listen to the band/musician play? In that crowd, I doubt you'd be able to hear anything at all.

This is like that American lady who sued McDonalds because she split her warm coffee on herself and it burnt her because you know coffee is warm, well no shit Sherlock who would have thought it, coffee that is hot? I know we have to stick to the letter of the law and stuff but where did common sense go? Sad thing is she'll probably get a decent size of money out of this which is a shame even if it is Bieber, yeah my hate of whiny bitches trying to get something for nothing is greater than my hate for Beiber, never would have thought it.

She sued McDonald's for the medical expenses related to the third degree burns which included skin grafts and an eight day hospital stay. Keep in mind that this is also the U.S., none of that stuff is free.

So it's really nothing like that lawsuit. At all.

If the woman in this lawsuit's hearing is severely damaged which it may be she could be in a similar situation.

Considering that Beiber's hardly starving for cash, I say let her have it and spread the wealth. The other connotations of this thing, I don't really care.

My post wasn't really about the cost and more about the stupidty of the woman for not understanding that coffee is hot just like a concert is loud, sure she won the case but she really shouldn't have, you would think there would be some common sense. Additionally nor did I disagree with the fact that it would cost money either, just expressed the view that I didn't think it was right. If you recieve your injuries through your own neglience then why should someone else pay for it? It just seems so monumentally stupid that it sounds like someone is trying to make some fast money.

It seems incredibly unlikely that one person out of literally thousands of concert goers would have been affected by a loud audience developed "severe hearing damage". Has she offered any explanation why the people next to her weren't affected?

"Hot" is substantially different from 185 degrees, which was McDonalds' mandated coffee temperature. 150 degrees is "hot" coffee (and likely wouldn't have cause third degree burns). 185 degree is "off boil" coffee.

It does, however there's still something to stand on despite how flimsy it is. I suppose we'll have to see how it plays out. However the fact that she says she was hit by a "sound blast" seems like it was less the noise and more the stupidity of building a frame out of reflective metal, might be able to pull something about terrible stage and show design.

I suddenly understand why The Beatles cited fans screaming so loudly that they couldn't hear themselves as the reason they stopped playing live. I always thought it was kind of silly -- I mean, what could possibly be a better high as a performer than thousands of fans screaming for you? -- but now I understand. Wow.

I almost wish David Attenborough could do a documentary voiceover for 'The screaming fangirl'. Truly one of lifes greatest mysteries.
