I know I know, view fishing for sure, but here, have some links:

From ABC News, here plans on producing an anti-abortion short film, Crescendo:
http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/entertainment/2013/01/justin-biebers-mom-lends-name-to-anti-abortion-short-film/

From Canada's National Post, JB's Mom admits christianity was a sole factor in her decision:
http://news.nationalpost.com/2013/01/21/justin-bieber/

And from Chicago Sun-Times, Justin admitting his mom's proactivity makes him uncomfortable:
http://www.suntimes.com/entertainment/17700635-421/justin-bieber-bugged-by-moms-anti-abortion-film-insider-says.html

With the power of google, you could find more details on the above article, but the message is pretty clear. And this message isn't quite too far away from Tim Tebow's mom, who did relatively the same thing during a superbowl ad a few years back. ABC again:
http://abcnews.go.com/WN/tim-tebow-super-bowl-ad-cbs-air-controversial/story?id=9667638

Now, abortion topics are a dime a dozen, I'm certain. I'm not here to debate that. I'm here to debate the above. Because there are two things that irk me about this.

1) Your son is a celebrity. In hindsight, how could you NOT be pro-life? Your son is a goddamn goldmine and the message seems to be, "Hey, don't abort your babies, they could be the next Justin Bieber." Of course you'd be against abortion when you have a millionaire child.

2) Justin Bieber is a major celebrity, and this reeks of nothing more than someone trying to use someone else's popular status to make a statement. You get people all the time speaking out against abortion, but all of a sudden, WHOA JUSTIN BIEBERS MOM? That's eye catching!

3) You don't need statistics to know that JB has a young fanbase. Young people are impressionable and to hear that his mom is pro-life is going to have an impact. I think this is irresponsible, and from the news sources regarding the Bieb himself, he too may think this is distasteful, even if he's not willing to come out and say it.

Look escapists, I am NOT trying to start a flamewar here. But I saw this news presentation during the morning news and couldn't have been more angry.

The question is not about abortion, is using your child's status to support your own agenda distasteful, especially in this context?

I'd like to give her the benefit of the doubt and believe that the film won't be a typical fear-mongering, piss-peddling, Christian propaganda American anti-abortion video.
I'd like to, but I can't.

If your asking about her abusing her position of influence, that's nothing new, celebrity relatives have been doing it for decades.

So she has an opinion and her son is a celebrity, she uses that status to get her word out.

There really isn't much discussion value other than our own opinions on the matter. (I am against abortion unless it is under very specific circumstances)

So? If she wants to make an anti-abortion campaign she is just as free as any others who would want to make a pro abortion campaign. The discussion on abortion is far from a black and white matter, despite what many on either side of the argument seem to think. Plus hardly the first time a celebrity has used their position to further a particular viewpoint.

For the record I am personally against abortion if that matters at all to the discussion.

Pretty much this. People use those they are connected with to establish platforms and spread their agendas all the time. As an example you could argue Hilary Clinton stayed with Bill because she knew she couldn't make it as far as she had without him. It's a political strategy that has existed since... forever.

I don't care what JB or any celebrity thinks. They are just people. I care about the effect what they think might have on the public. I care even less about what the relatives of celebrates think since there opinion has less weight with the public. I care even less here because this is a subject that everyone has an opinion on and everybody gets mad over so people getting upset is about as shocking and new as the sunrise. Someone says something about abortion, people respond with angry words, nothing new. (Yet I cared enough to write a whole spot over- nope, stopped caring

To be fair her stance seems to be consistent with her own beliefs.

From [link]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Justin_Bieber[/link]

"...In her book, as well as in an interview with the Today show, Mallette (his mother) talked about how everyone around her tried to push her toward abortion, and how she refused to abort her baby. Mallette worked a series of low-paying office jobs, raising Bieber as a single mother in low-income housing. Bieber has maintained contact with his father, who married another woman and had two children..."

How this will influence JB's young fans...who knows.

I wouldn't say it's distasteful if it's done with the permission of the child - although this doesn't seem to be the case for the Biebers. I'd probably be more annoyed if Justin Bieber came out as strongly anti-abortion as he's gained a lot of influence on impressionable people and it would have way more of an effect.

See I was hoping for more responses like this.

Also, yeah, I know, whoring off on being related to a celebrity isn't uncommon. But I feel the whole anti-abortion sentiment is demolished by that fact that her son is a millionare star child. It's sort of a skewed view saying "thank god I didn't have an abortion, because my son is a millionare star child." Even if that's not what she's actually saying, it's what I'm hearing. Let's hear the mother of a serial killer say the same thing.

I can see some of those kids jumping to some scary conclusions - "Wow! I could be a single mother to the next teenage pop sensation! Who needs condoms, they're just preventing my child from reaching the same height of fame as Justin! Praise Jesus!"

Don't really think it's that distasteful.

Just ask yourself, how would you have reacted if she'd spoken out on an issue you agreed on?

Would you still have thought it to be distasteful or would you have thought her a brave woman using an opportunity presented to her to stand up for what's right?

1) I'm sure she likes him for more than just his money. When his concert movie went to theatres, they made study materials for church youth groups to go see it and talk about the parts that emphasize his Christian faith. This is in the same vein. I think another viable reason for her to be against abortion is that it worked out for her and she has a son she probably loves.

2)If you believe in something strongly enough, you'll use any avenue you can to talk about it. Again, the concert movie talks about him being a Christian. She's obviously a Christian that thinks abortion is wrong and the worse choice someone could make in this situation. And, of course, it'll only be there for people that want to watch it.

3) Yeah, it's a pretty good idea to talk to them when they're young, since the average boy first sees pornography at age eleven, and studies that take into account your first sexual experience include "under fifteen" as a group. Let me put it this way: I want abstinence education to be taught to the youth that aren't smart or mature enough to have safe sex. They need to see "you could always NOT do it" as a viable option.

You didn't really make clear what exactly made you angry. You just don't like someone who's related to a famous person making this kind of movie (because a lot of un-famous people make movies like that), or are you pro-abortion?
