I've done a search of the forums but couldn't find any topic directly relating to the great man himself, so here's one now.

For those unfortunates amongst you who may not have heard of Karl Pilkington, and received the blessing of Karl's wisdom (through the media of at least radio, podcast and television) this might be the start of a great journey.

For those who do know of him, what do you think of him? Do you think he's a truly free thinker, who, unburdened by the constraints of responsibility, untroubled by the weights and problems of the general world, has some extraordinary ideas, if a little bizarre. Or do you think he is a complete idiot who believes anything written down, and has a "head like a fucking orange"?

He is a very good character comedian. He does not behave in his day to day life as he does on the radio/tv. For proof see his acting role in Peep Show series 1. He is certainly a funny guy.

I really don't like the guy but i don't like any of the Gervais lot. I never realised that he was even in peep show at all...i must check that out.

I've read various things in the same vein as this suggesting he's a character, but I'm not entirely sure (though that's not to say i dismiss the idea). Ricky Gervais makes the point that they wouldn't waste such a fantastic character on the radio show/podcasts. Especially as at the time these "allegations" were first appearing Karl was not on anything that they were charging for. Of course it might be said that their plan was long term, hence the podcasts being charged for after the first series. He certainly is a lucrative character if that's the case.

This raises another question though, do people think he's real or a fictional character?

I never put much thought into whether he was just a character or not. I have known many people throughout my life that have reminded me of Karl (not to the same extent, but you get the point), so I really find myself believing he is not a character.

To answer your first questions: he is an idiot. Plain and simple, an unadulterated form of pure stupidity. I would not want to spend a large amount of time with him, but he is damn funny to listen to from afar.

Ok, I have to ask, where in the hell is karl pilkington in peep show? Seeing as this would combine two of my fav things in comedy. (I stumbled across this searching for peep show, new series out 18th september hell yes!) I highly doubt karl is a character due to the fact he is living the life of said character, just seems too much work for no reward, I would still enjoy the comedy even if I knew he wasnt real. So yea, he's an idiot. A lovable idiot with a head like a fucking orange!
