To all the people who have basically said: "No", I ask: "Can you prove that?"

Karma is a belief. Just like Religion. It is, for many, a religion itself. So no-one can prove whether or not it is Real. If you believe in it, then it is real. If you don't, then it is arbitrary and silly. It's the exact same thing as God and Heaven and all that shit.....

OT: I believe in Karma, yes.

Yes karma is real, though not in a universe balances itself out kinda way. It's called causal chains
and the theory is based on the principle "if you are friendly towards people they are friendly towards you" but on a larger scale, envision a cloth spanned across a room if now someone does evil deeds^^ or gets bad karma then it's like you put a small stone on cloth just heavy enough to cause a dent. Now when you put a small stone near the other stone it might roll/slide to it if the dent is steep enough^^ it's like that with karma people who do bad things will interact with bad people so the chance of bad things happenning to them will rise

simple causality

Karma seems to only really apply to me when I game with 1 friend in particular. Like once we were playing Left 4 Dead 2 and were approaching the safe room, other 2 teammates died and she got downed about 100m away from the red door so I set off the alarm car that was close to her so that the zombies would go to her instead of me. I get to the safe room door then lag glitched past it and reawoke from the lag surrounded by zombies. Had to restart the level. I've been forced to be nice to her in game since this kinda shit keeps happening when I'm not (she likes to believe that God and her have an understanding)

Yes, dammit, it's totally real.

Karma is real...at least half of it is.

Good things dont necessarily happen to good people...BUT
Bad things will (eventually) happen to bad people.

Thats just what I believe and so far its pretty much true.

There is no binding force of karma, but the concept of "if you act like a dick to people, people will act like a dick to you" holds some truth.

Then again, those same dickheads often succeed in the avenues they pursue by exploiting people who worked harder by being the domineering personality.

Oh well...

Short answer no.

Longer answer no, but sometimes...

Karma is not real. People you've been a dickwad to messing your day up in the future somehow because you wronged them and they hold a grudge are.

No. I have never come across a reason to believe it is.

However, I think that generally speaking, acting nice to people will pay off in the end for non-supernatural reasons.

I usually find it can be disproved with one question: why do bad things happen to good people?

"Karma" is not real.
But being nice does usually yield niceness to you. Personally I think it's because of morality. If you do a good thing you feel better about yourself, hence anything that would normally be "standard" is nicer for you. Thus you feel like something/someone is repaying you for your good deeds.
This works the other way. If you do something bad you feel bad about yourself and things that would normally not have influence over you now suddenly feel crushing.
So basically "karma" is nothing more than your brain shoving placebo in your throat.

PS. Obviously it doesn't work for psychopaths and politicians. Those people have no morality hence no "good/bad" feeling.

What a wreck of a post, wow..
But no I don't think it is. Karma and fate/destiny is imaginary, there are actions and consequenses.

The burden of proof is on the people making the claim - surely. This is how everything works, right from the legal system to the scientific industry.

Pointing out the fact that you can't disprove karma is meaningless. You can't disprove the "flying spaghetti monster".

Agree.

I think we can go close. If karma existed, surely everyone who has committed horrible wrongs against humanity would be punished for it. This is obviously not the case.

In a philosophical way, yes. You could argue that believing something makes it real.

Do I think some mystical force keeps track of how naughty or nice you are? No. Shit happens, life is not fair and does not dish out punishment based on how good you are. If you think it exist you will notice bad things more because you will be looking for them.
That said if you lie, cheat or are an asshole to people all the time it will bite you in the ass because you will be found out eventually if you keep doing it and if your an ass to others they will be an ass back. Also you probably won?t end up feeling that good about yourself. So don?t cheat! the consequences of being found out are worse than failing and you get no sense of accomplishment. Wouldn't you rather achieve on your own merits?
