I'm not a big fan of people dressing like that IRL and I'm not a big fan of it happening in games either.

Men don't put their genitals on display. Neither should women.

Dude we should be able to wear what we want. If men can't control themselves it isn't our fault, we have every right to complain if a guy is creeping on us.
I think this video is for you...
Not interested in sexist comedians thanks. Sexism is about as funny as racism.

The whole idea of blame men put on women for their behaviour is ridiculous.

And just like we have the social right to not associate with people who dress like hookers.

Just sayin'.
Yet men can wander around with just shorts on and not be labelled as whores.
of course not. men who don't wear shirts in public are all dirty hippies. and i will not rest until they are all beaten into submission.

Anyhoo: frankly, i think he's making a mountain out of a molehill. i mean, this is the video game industry, we talk about characters with way more impressive [insert euphemism for breasts] then that

silliness aside, is this even news? i mean come on, this down there with complaining about hangnails when it comes to news worthiness.

Interesting, cuz I only just now noticed them. I was always instantly drawn to her eyes, as he says himself, they're extraordinarily expressive.
I think this is just some way to pump up publicity, is there really that much of a discussion out there that Ken Levine has to bring it up?

Well sex sells and if someone enjoys looking at her pixel chest that just happen to be covered by a corset (of even more pixels..) that is commonly used to increase focus on a specific part of a female body..
And that jacket isn't really covering that much either...

If nothing else: Grow Up for whatever's sake! You can have piles of dead bodies and ways of killing but a boob or two in a game makes it a porn game or way to sexist?

And now I'm going back to one of my favorite doings; looking at a somewhat larger than usual pair...Witch is nothing weird since every pair on a computer is pixels anyhow...

Elizabeth does look like an interesting character even with out her lovely bosom even though it helps catching male attention ;-P.
So good work Ken Levine you managed to get more almost free attention to your upcoming game!

While I understand where Mr. Levine is coming from, but I think he should wait until the game comes out before be too concerned about if people are paying Elizabeth's character or not. Ever since I saw the first trailer for Bioshock Infinite, I deliberately avoided any further previews that talked about the story (I prefer to be surprised about that sort of for a game I know will awesome). And while I do think she is attractive, I just like really like her character design.

Come now, I practically live on the internet and I haven't heard anyone talking about her tits. Why is Levine complaining about a practically nonexistent problem?

Oh, I get it, Levine's trying to drum up a bit of free publicity by making this nonsensical statement. clever git
Him... or the Escapist.

But I'm with you, I haven't really heard anything about it. I've watched a couple of the trailer videos and didn't notice at all, besides thinking she's cute. I think Uncharted has more sexuality than this.

I don't... understand.

The game isn't even out yet, we have very little to actually discuss besides what we actually SEE. If Infinite had already been released and still all the internet was interested in were her boobies, then YES, I'm sure that would be a tad dissapointing from Mr Levine's perspective.

I find Elizabeth attractive and I'm totally hyped for the game because I loved Bioshock's storyline and setting, but until it is actually released there isn't much more anyone can say.

Granted, she's no Alyx Vance/April Ryan on the sexuality scale, but neither is she a Lara Croft.

EDIT: Wait a minute... I see what you're trying to pull here, Levine. You think that people aren't talking ENOUGH about ol' Liz's breasts, so you kick the hornet's nest and a million threads like this pop up. Well bravo my fine man, bravo indeed.

READ: "Ken Levine wants more publicity for Bioshock Infinite, and figures that 'being mature' while also pointing out that his game features a pretty girl with a lovely chest will help."

Seriously though, saying this is like saying: God I hate it when people talk about my embarassing facial tick. You know...THIS ONE. EVERYONE SEE WHAT MY FACE DOES WHEN I'M NERVOUS. EVERYONE LOOK HERE NOW! Yeah...that I hate it when people look at that.

The corset thing she is wearing in the 10min gameplay trailer was what caught my attention, it looks like it's hard to breathe in that, even painful.

Hooray for bewbies! <3

:p But seriouslly, I was actually just thinking about this subject (not specifically Elizabeth's "subjects"), but rather the simple matter of female sexuality in videogames. I had recently picked up a copy of Tenchu Z for $7 and made a female ninja because - as pointed out in an old pvponine comic - "If I'm going to be staring at something for hours on end, I'd rather it be a girl." Point is that I do think there is a balance between having good looking female characters in a game without just going overboard and overtly making them sexual in nature (i.e. every female in the Dead or Alive fighter series). A number of the female ninja outfits in Tenchu Z were tastefully revealing, but in all honesty when you're sneaking across a wall trying to find the perfect timing to roll out, dash across a yard, and kill the one guard you need to unravel the whole chain of patrols, checking out your ninja's side-boob is really the last thing on your mind.

I'd imagine it'll be the same case with Bioshock should they not revamp Elizabeth to have a more modest bust. Yeah it's fun to joke about her rack because in many of the screenshots she's bending/hunched over a lot and there's plenty of time to enjoy her cleavage...but hey, we're gamers...we like da bewbies. That said, I'd imagine when you're actually playing Bioshock Infinite, you really aren't gonna have too much time between running from splicers (or whatever they'll be in this new game) and such to just take a five minute break and "enjoy the view".

Maybe it's because I'm female, but I was more distracted by her buck teeth. If she was genetically designed to be perfect, why does she have buck teeth?

On topic, if you don't want people looking there, why did you give her cleavage to begin with?

You know, even as a guy, I have to agree with you on that one. Her face also seemed a little fat if you ask me. :p

I understand Levine's frustration, and I'm not saying it's necessarily right to shove a jumper on the poor girl and have done with it, but...what did he expect? It's not even that Elizabeth is packing some ample bazookas -- it's that it seems like her character design, and her clothing, is deliberately directing your attention there. Look at the choker, and the tiny blue jacket, and the strategically-placed black piping on the dipping, low-cut corset. Her eyes are the main feature, but that doesn't mean it doesn't look like her breasts have been exaggerated too.

Besides, no matter how mature the gaming community ought to be, a lot of people aren't there yet by a longshot, and I don't know why Levine didn't at least anticipate that if he's going to get so hung up over peoples' reactions to her breasts.

If I were more cynical, I'd say this was to drum up publicity, but he seems like a legit guy.

Widening this debate from boobs to attractiveness generally...

Being sexually attractive is not a sniper rifle,in the war of the sexes, it's a frag grenade, sure you may well hit that gorgeous partner you've been wanting to notice you, but you're also going to hit every male in the surrounding area too.

It however doesn't mean that they're going to do anything but look. In the end also, you can choose to draw focus to your better areas or downplay them, but you can't choose who finds you alluring and pleasant to look at.

In the end also, if you're deciding that some people aren't nice enough to be allowed to look at you, you're already getting too much attention. Some of us weren't blessed with great physical gifts, should we be banned from art galleries too in case our hideous eyes somehow ruin the beautiful things inside?

I'm not rich, but if I was, I could wear a gold suit with £50 notes stuck to it and jig around in front of the local homeless shelter, but, if one of them comes over and tries to attack me to get them, it's wrong, and I shouldn't have to put up with it... at the same time, I did do something to encourage that situation.

I should say there's no excuse for sexual attacks, none, but there is a danger out there, and you can be safer by not being dressed too provocatively, and not getting drunk to the point of not being able to walk. Again, I'm not saying, it's EVER right to attack someone because they're dressed in a sexy way, or because they've got drunk, but it's in anyone's best interest not to make things more dangerous for themselves.

I realise I sound victorian here, but I am talking in extremes, there's a nightclub used to be near me, and the queues on a friday night, some of the girls were wearing a very little material, if they were queueing to get into a pool, never mind a nightclub.

In short, I'm absolutely not defending rape, but I AM defending the less visually blessed's right to look at attractive people. You can either have all the attention for having striking looks, or no attention. Again, if we're staring at the six inches of cleavage on display, we'll stare a lot less if you're large chested but haven't put them on display like a boobage buffet.

I will actually agree that I didn't find the teeth that unattractive at all really; it really added some distinction to her. But as to why they are like that it is because they were based off her voice actress's Yvonne Strahovski.

Anyway on subject

During the E3 demo well yes I noticed that Elizabeth was busty but that's about as far as that thought process really got.

What grabbed my attention more than that though was when you actually see her cry; I lost my shit at that point because I realized in all my years of playing games I have yet to see a character believably cry and show emotion like that, and at that point I was sold on the game.

See, people would probably talk a lot less about her chest (which is by video game standards below average, actually) if we, you know, knew anything about her. We know basically just what she looks like, that she has some vague history with the protagonist, and that she's got crazy-awesome reality-bending powers that allow her to summon things from alternate timelines. Now, as interesting as that third thing is, we don't know how or why it works, so there's little discussion to be had besides "dude, that's awesome," so that leaves two things to talk about. Some form of history with the protagonist is pretty much required for any NPC you're going to be spending large amounts of time with, so there's no real discussion value there until more specific details come to light. So that just leaves one thing with much discussion value, and that's her appearance.

Her appearance is actually very dignified compared to most good-looking female game characters, in my opinion. She's also not more akin to a parody of a woman than an actual one in body type. Her proportions are actually humanly possible, except how thin she is which is explained by the fact that she's wearing a bodice. I see absolutely no problems with her appearance whatsoever. I mean sure, she's VERY pretty, but not the just-plain-unrealistic-spine-breakingly-huge-breasts type of pretty. For an example of what I'm talking about here, here's some links to the splash art for several characters that ARE the unrealistic sort.

All of these examples are from ONE game, and are actually tame compared to some of the more fan-servicey games out there. Go look up some Dead or Alive screenshots if you want the REALLY bad offenders.

Either that picture happens to be at a hell of an angle or they've grown. I remember being impressed with how normal she looked in the top end and they look quite large there...might just be an opportune angle though?

Anyway, it's irrelevant, seriously. Watched the trailer and it wasn't her breasts I was staring at, when she grabs you and pleads with those gigantic eyes screaming fear and desperation...just...all protection instincts kicked in. If it works in the game itself I don't think I'd even see her in a sexual way, it was quite surprising how well they managed to elicit that response in me.
Though in fairness I am a highly protective person, of male and female friends alike. It's not far fetched to think I might be more susceptible to their ploys...

But yeah, breasts didn't really scream at me, it was definitely her face and expressions and mannerisms more than anything else. I presume it would be the same for most when they play the actual game.
