Imagine if Fox News was around before 1996. Imagine if the media had been so divided through the entirety of the 20th Century? How do you think they'd have covered important stories from years gone by? Would we ever have gotten anything done?

EDIT2: On topic, I bet certain news outlets would have praised Nixon for usage of espionage, surely practice for dealing with the enemies of America!

News Corp is the owner of Fox, Fox News, The Wall Street Journal and the New York Post.

I fixed the post for clarity, but I generally meant tabloid journalism masquerading as news.

Hmm...well when you think about it, most of the news in the 50's and 60's was alot like Fox is now. Remember the "Red Scare" or McCarthyism? And look up newspaper headlines at the beginning of Woodstock. News didn't really start to become a little less bias until Vietnam. So really, Fox News is almost like a throwback to the 50's and non-hippie 60's.

It's true that the media have always been sensationalist, it's just been unusual over the course of the last century for major media outlets to be so ideologically opposed to each other. NBC, ABC and CBS generally agreed with The Washington Post, The New York Times and The Los Angeles Times. Everyone put forth their own spin on the same story, wheras today we have two entirely separate groups of media, each reporting things that the other side either won't cover or will cover differently.
