This may sound crazy to you, but please read the entire my entire post before you post yourself. And remember, it's ok to dissagree. 2 of my favorite cartoons right now, Adventure Time on Cartoon Network, and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic on The Hub Network seem to share supprising similarities character wise to 2 of my favorite 3DS games, Kid Icarus: Uprising, and Fire Emblem: Awakening.

For starters, lets look at Kid Icarus

Pit = Finn - Finn's slang aside, they both share many of the same qualities. They're both brave, adventurous, and kind-hearted, have strong moral values, and are loyal to those they help.

Palutena = Princess Bubblegum - They to have many of the same qualities. They're both over achievers, in charge of a huge relm, are often the voice of reason, both the smartest characters, and mainly rely on Finn/Pit respectivley.

Viridi = Marceline - This one I'm not too sure about, but there are some similarities. They both don't like the male lead at first, but eventually learn to get along, they both really don't get along with Plautena/Bubblegum, and they're a bit cynical and brash.

Medusa = The Litch - They have no quirky traits and lack a sense of humor, and want to end all life and recreate it in their own image.

Pandora = Prismo - All powerful beings that can summon anything at will and cause random crap to happen. The only difference is that Pandora is evil.

Now on to Fire Emblem

Robbin = Twilight Sparkle - Obviously, they're both nerdy bookworms who spend more time reading than socializing. And they're both good at organizing strategies.

Vaike = Rainbow Dash - Cocky, check. Arrogant, check. Brash, check. Charge first-plan later attitude, check. Extreme ego, check as well. Yup, looks like The Vaike just got 20% cooler

Maribelle = Rarity - Both are snooty, and snobbish at first, but have a heart, mean well, are generous, and speak in a rich, british accent.

Richen, Nowi, and Nah = The CMC (Sweetie Belle, Scootaloo, and Apple Bloom) - The youngest characters of the casts (mentaly in Nowi's case). They can be naive, and think ahead sometimes, with one being the smarter, more level headed (Nah = Apple Bloom). But they are kids so, eh.

Lissa = Pinkie Pie - The bubbly, and cheerful, party gals. However, Lissa isn't as optimistic or random as Pinkie.

Norie = Fluttershy - Shy, timid, scared easily, have multi-personality disorders. Yup, Norie's the Fluttershy of FE.

Donnel = Applejack - Stobborn, hard-working, farm people with strong family values, and a southern draw.

Severa = Dimond Tiara - The most hatable of the bunch. Selfish, manipulative, and just unlikeable.

Stahl = Spike - The level headed, straight men of the many zany characters with huge appetites.

I'm sure there may be other comparisons I'm missing, but it's kind of errie how simmilar all these characters are IMO. If you dissagree, thats fine, please share your thoughts. And like I said, this may be crazy, but it's a thout I had.

I can't tell if this is the dawn of a bizarre uprising or if you're genuinely surprised and have just figured out that archetypes exist.

You'll find LOTS of series with similar characters between them, particularly series that you like, because the "classic ensemble" works.

For a minute there I thought this was a Commander_PonyShep aka EternalNothingness thread.

Anyway it is an interesting point on Fire Emblem (I haven't played Kid Icarus). Sure the tactician is similar to Twilight but I wouldn't say he/ she cared more about reading than socializing (and I like Severa).

I think this is something that we can "generic archetypes" and "not fantastic writing."

I do like Fire Emblem but 90% of the characters in that game were simply shallow archetypes put to their most likable conclusion. The fact that they're similar to other characters is no big coincidence.

Since when does Archetype = Shallow character? Just because a character is an archetype, doesn't mean they can't have their unique quirks or development. Awakenings characters get as much screen time and development as you choose through the support conversations.

I disagree. A character archetype doesn't immediately make for a shallow, overused character just like a trope doesn't immediately make for a cliche. Fire Emblem characters in general initially appear to be shallow but then get some much needed fleshing out via supports.

Though, there were some characters that were ultimately shallow, like Kellam and Severa.

I'll agree that archetype=/=shallow writing but I got to the end of Fire Emblem getting basically everyone an S ranking with someone else and a few other rankings with other people and... yeah still not impressed I'm gonna admit.

Might have to agree to disagree but to me the story and characters in Awakening were the weakest parts of the game.

I'm going to give you the benefit of doubt and assume you simply haven't read/played/watched enough stories to realize how common those archetypes are. There's a website called TVtropes that you might enjoy :p

So how does Chrom fit as a member of the Mane Cast?, and does this mean Emmeryn is Celestia?

Similar character archetypes being in similar stories is nothing new. For example, Star Wars: Republic Commando might be the best Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game ever.

Yup, Archetypes exist
Heck, Fire Emblem uses similar ones for characters throughout the entire series

Yes, generic characters are generic.

You could probably draw comparison to many other aspects of media using these basic archetypes.

Being a huge fun of Adventure Time, its characters have more deeper "meaning" for every single action they do in the show.
Now, I never played a Kid Ikarus game before, but I am very positive its characters doesn't have the same complexity as the characters in Adventure Time.

And no, they are NOT generic characters!

As for Fire Emblem=MLP comparison.......I don't care anymore.
I was a fan of the show, but I get a little......"fed up" with all this "pony fever" thing...
However just for the heck of it...

Actually for Kid Icarus, Every major character has a reason for their actions. Pit follows Palutena because he's trusted her for over 25 years. Dark Pit moves to his own beat and is more of an anti-hero. Mangus fights the underworld for bounty rewards and to avenge his friend he lost to the underworld.
Viridi wipes out humanity as they keep explioting and disturbing the balance of nature. And Hades uses the souls of the dead to expand his army and make an unlimited supply
