I think the parents will appreciate finding the $0.50 charge on their statements rather than the eventual $500.00 if there isn't some sort of control system.

Kids are stupid. Don't give them your credit card. Done.

OH, SNAP! 50 CENTS?! WHOA, WHOA, WHOA!

Look, I understand why Nintendo is doing it. And I congratulate them because they're being smart, for once. But a kid can still do that without their parents confirmation. Most people won't notice a charge of 50 cents to their account and if they do, they might not even care because it's 50 cents.
really? I'm very careful with my credit bills and a lot of people I know are as well. Considering the nature of credit bills it's important to look over your statements and make sure you know where EVERYTHING is coming from. I ALWAYS check my statements in full, and usually keep my receipts.

I know a lot of other people who do this as well, so I don't think you are correct.
Well, it depends on the kind of people you know. But personally, I know a lot of people that, while they try to be careful with their credit card statements and such, they don't really care about 50 cents. But when they're missing 5 or 10 bucks, then they get suspicious.
Even if they do find out, they don't really care because it's just 50 cents and most of the people I know just wanna avoid the hassle of tracking down where those 50 cents went. But I can see them getting worried if it starts happening more than once.

And hey, if a kid is able to get their parent's credit card and use it without them realizing it, I doubt they're gonna realize someone took 50 cents from their account.
What I'm trying to say is that it is a good move by Nintendo but responsible people don't have a problem with it (like you) but for irresponsible people, that's nothing. The fee should raise a huge red flag inside someone's head. That 50 cent fee is more like a soft and polite tap on the shoulder that you can just shrug off. That's the way I see it.
