If you haven't heard, the new Killer Instinct (not called Killer Instinct 3, because the PR department is intimidated by numbers.) is being co developed alongside Rare by infamous game developer Double Helix, this same company has delivered to us such wonders as the video game based on the Battleship movie, The terrible Green Lantern and G.I. Joe games, and most infamously, Silent Hill 5: Homecoming.

Their website carefully excludes any mentions of games made before Killer Instinct.

Between Rare and Double Helix, I really don't think anyone has anything to be excited about.

Yeah, from what I've seen it's going to be total trash, with about as little presence on the competitive circuit as Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game.

A F2P Killer Instinct that's being developed by the team that brought us such classics as Battleship, Green Lantern and GI Joe? And it's being overseen by Rare, which is now a just an empty shell of a developer and only makes Kinect titles? What's not to like? ¬_¬

Goddamn you Microsoft, of all the bullshit you've pulled, gutting Rare the way you have is by far the most depressing. I wish Nintendo could just buy them back, at least there they might be appreciated.

Not just stuff, but things too!

Who doesn't want to play a low polygon, photo realistic version of Cammy, as played by Kylie Minogue?

It truly is the most underrated game of all time!

Why?! Why did we not see Street Fighter The Movie The Game The Theme Song The Television Miniseries The Lunchbox for the greatness it was?!?! It's too late to turn back the hands of time now!

Double Helix used to be Shiny Entertainment who made a lot of the classic Interplay games. I doubt any of the same people are there.

Hang on, back up a step.

Is Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game an actual thing, or are you just being clever?

It was most certainly a thing.

What in the name of fuck. Surely this is just some elaborate photoshopping?

Nope :D

Why are you people so eager to deny this amazing game's existence?

And it's still somehow not the worst fighter ever.

Yeah... I have a killer intstinct to not give a damn about this game. I like the F2P model at times, but it shouldn't be shoehorned into everything, especially a fighting game.

This game may be called Killer Instinct, but it most certainly doesn?t in anyway resemble Killer Instinct. Almost everything honestly looks almost like Street Fighter to me. From the art style all the way to how the characters move (not to mention the color palette as well). Then, it?s also a free to play fighting game now, wow.

You know a lot of people were hoping for a third Killer Instinct but not this, not this.

To be fair to them, apart from Silent Hill, any developer would make a bad game under those restrictions. You don't get time, you don't get money and you've got to try and solve a problem no-one has managed to solve, how do you relate it to the film without a)weirding it out by sticking in way too much combat b)have the plot so similar it's boring to watch.

And you're not allowed to have the time to do any development to come up with solutions to those problems, never mind hand-designing the gameplay to match the content ala Arkhum Asylum. The very best case scenario is trying to pick an established genre that sort of fits, still all the design solutions and try to make a 5 hour game that at least functions.

...but Silent Hill isn't a great sign. You think people would throw at least a little bit of money behind that

Their minds cannot handle the sheer awesomeness. I mean, Street Fighter: the Movie was already hard to believe in how amazing it was, surely a game based on it makes lesser minds shut down.

CAPTCHA asks me what year was I born. Why can't I choose anything after 2000? Or before 1940? CAPTCHA, you are ageist, is what you are.

What's wrong with F2P in fighting games? I mean, provided you don't have to level up to unlock stuff or buy power, I can see that model fit the genre very nicely.

You have to buy the entire cast of playable characters, save for Jago.

OT: Bullshit aside, there has actually been GOOD things coming from the coverage I've been watching with Miles923, a huge FGC guy.
While I'll never play the game on Xbone, there is a small chance that this might not suck.

Depending on price that could either be okay or really horrible. Still, that's just the developers handling the model badly rather than an argument against the model itself, I've heard Tekken Revolution does things a bit better.
Not that mishandling F2P is a point in favor of the game, mind :V
