I have been playing a lot of killing floor recently and I just wandered why people play different perks? Which one is your favourite and how do you level it?

Personally I think the commando is the best because of: the huge ammo amounts (If you have AK + bullpup/Scar), the ability to wipe out pretty much all minor specimens in a couple of shots and, contrary to what people say, they can hold their own against Fleshpounds and Scrakes! (On normal at any rate)

I do like all the other perks as well, but there is just something about the commando I can't resist. Even if he is a pain in the arse to level (If anyone has any good tips please share).

Edit: All my classes are level 3 except from Demo. (I don't just play Commando)

Play on higher difficulties.

The commando is useless as a class, severely outcompeted.
It's only useful when you have a support, medic, demo and sharpshooter already, and then only as a supplementary. The only thing worse than a commando is the firebug on the higher difficulties.

Berserker obviously.

1.) Clots don't kill you :D
2.) you're an instant badass
3.) Blades don't need reloading
4.) Get a few friends to all go berserker for awesome fun
5.) Badassness.
6.) Zed Time is satisfying
7.) Makes killing fleshpounds all the more satisfying

Also i mostly play with only my brother and a x2 berserker combo is usually fairly successful and fun.

Explain?

You haven't given any reasons.

Perks can compliment certain peoples playstyles. Not everyone would be happy with sharpshooter, for example. The perk system allows a player to choose which kind of playstyle suits them the best and invest in it. :)
I actually meant why do YOU play as what perk you do? If you see what I mean? :p

The support to weld doors (absolute necessity), and the AA12 is not just a brilliant crowd control weapon, when combined with the demos pipes it makes short work of any fleshpounds. The sharpshooter should be concentrating on husks and scrakes, and on level 6 using the default pistol is enough to take care of any gorefasts and clots, let alone giving one the hand cannon.
The demo's use of pipe bombs is all that's really necessary for the most part, as there are some brilliant bottlenecks in certain maps. Givw them the LAW (Yes, the LAW) and they can take care of any significant buildup of smaller enemies.
The medic will then take care of healing, and you're pretty much set.
The commando is only of any use once you have all those classes already set up. Against Fleshpounders it's useless, anything beyond normal and you're dead. Against scrakes, only if you avoid raging it, and none of the other classes have any trouble with with the smaller foes like clots, gorefasts, spiders, stalkers or husks to warrant needing a commando.

I dabble between the Commando and Sharpshooter. I love my AK and SCAR in the Commando, the nice thing is the semi-auto option on all ARs to conserve ammo. I usually shoot to the top of the kill count with this class, it makes for good crowd control.
Sharpshooter is the other one for me, headshots are one thing that I enjoy making and I go for all the time. And I know how to line up a few Zeds for a nice 3 in 1 shot with the Crossbow.

Support specialist was my first love. Something satisfying about being loaded up with more firearms and grenades than a texan nuclear family just feels right to me. That and level 6 can pretty much instant kill anything with a double barreled blast.

I think the Commando and the Demo can go hide under a bin and Cry themselves to death.

I usually cross between Beserker and Sharp-Shooter. I get headshots whenever I can (For Sharpshooter) and I try to get in there and beat the shit out of the Speciments with an Axe (For Beserker).

And sometimes I usually go Field Medic.

When playing with a below-average team on normal difficulty, would you still stand by this? What you say is correct, but it does depend heavily on your team, the commando has the speed (fast reload, high ammo) to survive even when no-one else is around in my opinion, although it's true, you can do this with a support. However I would say that playing like this is suicide for Demos and Sharpshooters.

I know this isn't good tactics for serious play and on higher difficulties it is very hard to pull off well. (But it's really fun)

I like to play either Berserker (because you just feel so badass when you run into a group of specimens with a katana and cut their heads off in slow-motion) or Field Medic so I can heal others and myself (and the medic gun becomes semi-viable due to the increased magazine size and how cheap it becomes).

Another thing to note about Field Medic is that you get a bonus to your armor. When I play as Medic, I charge in front of whoever the Fleshpound is heading for, and take the hits myself. This is partly why people play as Medic even when going solo.

Personally, I tend to cycle through all of the jobs. My first love has and will always be "Play Medic, act like Sharpshooter," the latter of which is the easiest I find to level.

Medic is useful as - for lack of a better comparison - a light tank. Their armor is powerful, and they have the second-highest movement speed. Their skills are suited for running-and-gunning, but pulling out of scrapes is pretty easy if they get caught up.

Support Specialist is the hardest class for me, because I have so much trouble reminding myself to weld and get close to use the shotgun. It's risky during leveling, and the cost of the AA12 makes it so that I'm in very high danger with the shotgun until about Wave 8, and by that time, it's still incredibly risky even with the AA12. Probably easier when I level a few more times.

Firebug is fun, but a pain to level because I prefer the MAC-10 to the Flamethrower. Sadly, only the latter gets you perk experience.

Commando is the easiest for me. It's just like Sharpshooter in Semi-Auto mode, except I know their HP and have 30 rounds to the magazine instead of 12 or 15, and have better sights.

I'm pretty bad at Berzerker, but I rarely play with a medic.

Support Specialist.

I can weld doors in an instant, carry a shitload of guns (Shotgun,AA12 Shotgun, M79 Grenade Launcher and a Machete!) and I carry a load of extra-powerful grenades.

I can murder Scrakes in about 3 seconds and Fleshpounds in about 5.
