And I see you caved in with the title ;)
Folded like origami. Haha

Anywho, I don't think the film will be awful, just find this addition offputting. I like the ogn.

Also, for the record, I also like BvS.

Or Brian Arrazello.

But I am sort of split on this sex scene thing because on one hand Batgirl in this film is techincally of age (She's looks to be 25 at least) and its not unheard of that a young person is in love with an older person, just ask Clint Eastwood.

But on the other hand its Barbara so its gonna make some complication with her father Gordon.

On a narrative point of view, I once wrote a story which among other characters also had a 60 years old manager of a multinational company have sex with a 15 years old homeless girl. That makes the Barbara+Batman seem nothing in comparison.

The issue is, on a narrative point of view, Barbara+Batman is awkward, out of place, unnecessary, weird, having unfortunate implications, and it's creepy.... without even intentionally wanting to be any of those things.
The unfortunante implication being that because it's Barbara, Batman and her Father will be at odds?

You know that was an episode in the Animated Series where Barbara was hurt and Gordon found out she was Batgirl and Gordon just went all out against Batman and Robin and Nightwing.....but it turns out all of that did not happen because it was just a dream in Barbara's head.

Oh, no, that would be interesting theorically.
In fact, if those two were my characters, I may just get them to have sex in that cheesy way. If they were my characters, invented by me.

The issue is, neither Barbara nor Batman are my characters, and if I were to write a story with them, or even more (like in this specific case!) to re-write an already existing story, I would NOT make them lovers. Because it wasn't part of the Killing Joke and it's not part of who Batman and Barbara are (at least in most of the canon).
Batman kills people and Batman bangs a woman younger than him.

Batman just can't seem to catch a break from all this pointless controversy :p

Damn, whats with Bruce Timm and the Batman/Batgirl ship? It was creepy as fuck in the DCAU and I assume it will be creepy here too. As if this story wasn't controversial enough....
...What? She was his girlfriend during a time frame in the DCAU where no episodes take place, and we only find out about it long, long, LONG after the fact, when it's all over. How creepy could it possibly be?

As for this movie, tis weird indeed.

Huh...ok, yeah, that'd change things. Heroes are generally not supposed to have sex with people they take on as teen sidekicks.

Its pretty bad when the Bat family could be on Jerry Springier. Batman slept with his adoptive Son's Ex-girlfriend that Batman knew since she was a teenager.

creepy ass incest vibes aside (yeah yeah, I know they're not related, but batman has always been 'the dad' to the bat family)

this just seems like a shitty way to try and make us (or at least batman) care more about the abuse she'll receive later

lazy writing for an already lazy story
I cannot believe that somehow an Alan Moore Batman story is bad.

So Dark Knight Returns was the better movie?

ALan Moore doesn't even like The Killing Joke. Nor does he like how comics became dark just to copy his stories.
I disagree, the whole idea that they are charcaters "made for children" was something that was added later, because Batman more or less was not a kiddy like comic in those early ones before they added Robin.

Agreed. Bob Kane's (and Bill Finger's) Batman was definitely darker and more violent than it came to be in the 60s and 70s.

Honestly, Moore's distaste for TKJ always struck me as just plain old nostalgia on his part, since that silly phase of the character just happened to be roughly around the time he was reading Batman comics. It works just fine as a story; hell, as far as I'm concerned you could take out Batman and the Joker and replace them with any thinly-veiled ripoffs, and it'd still be just as good.

Eh, even if its just conceptually, the relationship is creepy to me. Not to mention the scene of them kissing, yes it was a dream, but still.

I wasn't going to see The Killing Joke anyway. Too dark and depressing for my liking. I admit that it's a good story and deserves to be told and certainly should be made into a movie, but God damn...not the type of emotions I want from a Batman story.

But this? This relationship thing between them? Yeah...I going to fall on the side of it feeling very weird and out of place. Based on what just casual fans know about the Batman franchise, Batgirl is now going to come off as a girl with serious daddy issues, and I kind of have to agree with that fan in the article who said Barbara was powerful over men by using sex. This really does kind of seem like a smack in the face of her character and fans, to be honest.

Yeah, so a friend of mine filled me in on this and all I can do is shake my head and go "Seriously, DC? SERIOUSLY? You think batgirl pining after batman and only doing it to get his attention before the main point of the comic kicks in somehow makes this a compelling story? REALLY?! That's just disappointing."

Meh, whatever. If they wanna make this, let 'em. I've gone from "no interest" to "less than zero interest", and I expect a fair few people feel the same. I mean, between this and the "Martha" thing I really begin to wonder if DC's film maker teams know how the hell to even write.

...Man, if this is my competition in the world of writing, I feel slightly less depressed about my chances out there.

As I suspected, much like the comic, the film is going to be one of the greatest crimes against Barbra Gordon. I was already not going to see it because I suspected they'd be sticking really closely to the source material, but this revelation is... disheartening.

Also, what is this about Barbara and Bruce dating in the animated series? Dear god, I feel like my childhood just got kicked in the nads.

I don't mind it to be honest. I like it when adaptions do something different, keeping the sense of the source material but switching it up so those who have seen the original can still be kept guessing to a degree.

Personally I would have liked to have seen more divergence. If I wanted the Killing Joke I know and love, then I'd reach up to my bookshelf and read it.

Depends how they frame it. Most likely it will be highly misjudged and not fit, but then again they might make it work. The proof of the pudding is in the eating, as they say.
