I have tried once in the past by a hanging. The rope didn't snap my neck and I passed out from oxygen deprivation.

Woke up on the floor very confused.

In the future if I ever plan to kill myself, I'll do it properly with some sort of firearm.

I've become a shut-in, in fear of the Sun trying ot murder me with his deadly beams.

Wait I'm off topic. No I would not commit suicide, that is a coward's way out and not a very honorable death (if I may say). If I am to die I'd prefer not taking my own life.

Eh, I've never been in that situation before, so I don't know. What I do know is that when pushed to it's limits, the human mind can extraordinary things. Therefore my answer is a grand and resounding...dunno, maybe.

I doubt id take my life in any situation i dont think id be able to and its much easier to give in than to keep on fighting plus you only live once so id keep on going.

In all seriousness, yes, I probably would.

G'day my fellow Escapists!

Around 1½ months ago I made a thread [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.236269-Committing-Suicide-Could-you-do-it#8417957] posing a question which is very exactly similar to the one I will ask you in a moment. However, in that thread I was disappointed in the fact that many posters seemed to take my initial scenario/example too close to heart, disregarding, what I meant to be the point of the thread.

Therefore, I initially decided to pose the question again, albeit a bit differently, but I thought some time might have to pass first. So here we are;

If a situation should arrise in which you found yourself face to face with imminent death, the situation being perfectly clear to you and the chance of survival being infinitesimally(endlessly) small - could/would you take your own life to spare yourself any unnecessary pain?
[sub](Whether it is disease, torture followed by death, starvation, dehydration, the eradication of all human life or an otherwise unavoidable situation.)[/sub]

I would do what I can to take as many people as I can along with me.

If it means suffering less than being eaten alive by zombies or bleeding to death with my legs blown off, then yes, a bullet, a grenade, a guillotine, anything to accelerate the inevitable. I mean, if I know I'm gonna die, why would I want to endure anything painful for longer than I have to?

Several answers for different scenarios.

Just me- If it was just me, and no one else was involved (terminal illness, etc.) I'd stick it out, but with lot's of morphine. (If available and in a hospital setting given by professionals)

Survival of a group- If it was one of those 'there's only one life-vest and the boat's going down' situations, I'd like to think I'd be willing to take one for the team to save somebody else. Again, I'd like to think that, but I won't dismiss the possibility that I'd wimp out in the real event.

Just me (braindead)- Keep me alive until as many of my organs as possible can be given away for transplant. After that, pull the plug and help yourself.

In the case that my death would be horrifyingly painful and prolonged, yeah, I could shoot myself in the head to avoid it, no problem. But if it wouldn't be like that, than I probably couldn't. For example, if my fate was to starve to death, I would probably wait until it was unbearably horrible before I killed myself, simply out of being a wuss.

Yes, yes I would.

I've also made plans for suicide (assisted or otherwise) when my life becomes 'unlivable' - If I become a paraplegic, if I go deaf and blind, if I'm extremely mentally unstable and am merely costing my loved ones patience, sanity, and money, etc. etc.

However, if I knew that my being gone would significantly harm someone else or lower their quality of life in an immediately significant manner....no, probably not.

Is it wrong that I have fantasies of dying in a heroic manner, just so I can feel like my life meant something?
