sup guys!! :)

So small question! I just beat Killzone 2 and I'm jumping into Killzone 3 tomorrow. Question is am i missing out on alot not beating killzone 1? i seen it just a couple mins ago on PSN for $15 in hd. I know i should have checked before i played Killzone 2 but sadly i did not!

Also IGN rated it a 7.5/10 and Gamespot 6.9/10 so rating isn't to high

I found Killzone 1 to be much better than its sequels, but its kind of a style thing.
The sequels went more modern COD style, but the original had multiple characters to play as, better weapons (especially Rico's chaingun), a pretty diverse set of enviroments and most importantly nobody left a fairly xenophobic grunt like Rico in command of anything. Plus it had a pretty decent bot mode.

There were some graphical issues at times when I played it on PS2, faces didnt load fully. Minor issue for me but may be a dealbreaker for some. I don't know if that happens in the PS3 version though.

I'd recommend it.

I recently replayed it and was honestly surprised by the old game. It got great atmosphere, pretty fun guns good style. The AI is quite bland, but not bad (I've seen much worse in recent games). It got a fair bit of variety for gameplay due to for different characters with their own playstyles and focuses.

Two things that annoyed me to no end is that it is pretty difficult at times due the long distances between checkpoints. The other being that the final part is virtually impossible as Lugher (stealth-character). You have 50% health, no possibilities to sneak around, loads of heavily armed enemies etc. I have beaten it on my first try with Haka.
Apart from that, the levels are pretty well made in my opinion.

The game is no master-piece, but it is severly underestimated.

Didn't play any of the sequels (no PS3), but the first Killzone was one of my favourite PS2 games. Don't know how well its aged, but for that price, I'd say go for it. Only really annoying thing about it was later levels that didn't give you enough ammo for the ISA weapons, pretty much forcing you to play as Hakha.

I played this game when it first released. Guerrilla (the developer) did a great job at creating the right atmophere for this game. In my experience, the controls felt suite heavy and sturdy.
I liked the intro scene very much, one of the most memorable video game cutscenes.

You can grab the HD version on the Playstation Network for about fifteen bucks. It's got a few kinks, and it plays more towards old school shooters than new (health packs, long checkpoints, fairly lengthy game), but it's not bad. The worst I could probably say about it is that, apart from the well done cutscenes, the sound effects are pretty terrible.

I didn't really care for it, but then I haven't really cared for any of the Killzone games. They keep lying to me in their trailers, and the first one did no different. I was expecting to be in the middle of a war, not fighting behind enemy lines with a small strike time. Does that make the game bad though? No, it's just not my taste.

The only thing you're missing out on is the story, which I can give you a bare rundown of. Helghan invades Vekta, and Jan is part of the militia. He teams up with Rico, a grunt, Haka, a Helghast halfbreed and spy, and Luger, a sexy female black ops assassin. They end up pushing the Helghan off of Vekta and that's how the war in Killzone 2 gets started. I probably misspelled a lot of things in there (names mostly), but there you go.

Gameplay wise, I guess it was alright. Others say get it, and for fifteen dollars I can't really argue against that. It's just that I still have memories of being disappointed that the game I saw in trailers (constant battles with huge armies and ally AI that can die, like Halo) wasn't the game that I got. If you liked Killzone 2, then I suggest picking up Killzone.
